Cheum will probably apologize to Boston next ep, but the way women are written in this show is kinda dookie. Most of the time, it feels like they are just in the show to fill a checkbox for token female/lesbian representation and that’s it.
Cheum is my favorite character, but even I realize that she’s mainly there to “keep the boys in line”, be that friend that’s written to go along with however Mew feels, and be the lesbian of the show. I hate that there's not much to her character outside of that.
My girl is so poorly written and having her coddle her brother that LIED TO HER ABOUT BEING SA’D BY HER BEST FRIEND instead of telling him how that’s a shitty thing to do is so insane to me. Especially when Cheum is usually so ready to pop off if someone’s doing some dumb shit. Her not doing so in a moment like THAT felt very out of character. It’s like the writers don’t know what to do with Cheum, so they give her flip-floppy emotions when it comes to characters that aren't April and Mew.
Also, the scene did nothing but make the hate on Lookjun increase cuz people can’t separate fiction from reality! This is only my 2nd Thai bI show (the first was KinnPorsche), but if badly written female and lesbian characters is gonna constantly be a thing, then l'mma have to avoid the ones with women in them. Like, don't even bother adding a token girl of the bunch to the show if y'all are just gonna write her like y’all want people to hate her and not defend her actress from the misogynistic, woman-hating fans!
Its crazy how fandoms know to blame the writers for scenes they don’t like when the character is a man, but when it’s a woman, they act like she wrote the scene herself, proceed to say the worst things about her, and start attacking the actress on social media…
Anyways, the apology scene (if it’s not glossed over like a lot of things are in this show) is coming like 6 days from now, so the fandom will continue to hate on her until then ✌🏾😔

i love how the show made sure 1) to show us that for once boston was extremely reluctant to make sexual advances on someone and atom absolutely did all the work, and then also blamed boston for not wanting to see him again, despite the clearly established boundaries; and 2) to explicitly frame the fact that boston as a gay man (particularly a promiscuous gay man) is seen as predatory by having chueam verbally frame the situation as the classic deeply homophobic "homosexual preying on the young and inexperienced and turning them to the "homosexual lifestyle"" idea (reflected in anything from 1961's "boys beware" short to the current "protect children from drag queens" moral panic), and y'all are STILL somehow saying that boston is at fault here, just because he is a shitty friend and a selfish person. like i'm sorry, but a leap from these honestly regular human traits to literal blackmail and sexual assault is not as obvious and easy as some of you seem to think.

Lookjun Bhasidi as Namchueam & Nonnie Pitchaporn as April
Only Friends (2023) | Ep.8
What the f*ck is wrong with you Ray? Didn’t I tell you that being friends was good enough? Why did you have to complicate things? And this damn hostel, you never wanted to run it with me in the first place. You did it just because you wanted something you could share with Mew. Boston and I are just the third wheel. You never care about us. And if you think you're going to keep on seeing Mew, then I wish you good luck. But if you guys are not going to quit this behavior, I quit.

Chueam: I'm taking April on a weekend getaway. I left instructions for everyone while I'm gone.
Boston: Mine just says, "Boston, no."
Chueam: And I want you to apply that every possible situation.

i think - especially after the last episode - the audience will generally agree that chueam is also just a 22 year old making mistakes and having her own vices etc.
at the moment, I am not sure how deliberate the writing is for her character because p'jojo is tweeting a bunch about lesbians being the best and saving the gays (which I appreciate in a lot of ways) and it makes me wonder how intentional it is that besides the messiness of everyone around her - which she has also contributed to - her friends do burden her with cleaning up the mess. she is the leader of the gang and yes - mew had the role of table saver and collecting everyone after a drunk night out - but she also is the spokesperson for the group in a lot of sitations and currently i am pondering the fact that mewray decided to throw a party but then got too drunk and high to be awake so she had to represent the group, talk to the police and coordinate with top to solve the situation.
she does try and micro-manage her friend group based on her own image she has of everyone (and even what her ideal friend group is supposed to be like) and maybe tries but mostly fails to actually run fruitful interventions for ray so her outburst at him is a bit misplaced, but i cannot help but think that the stress of suddenly being the one person (plus april having to step in) in charge of the party made her explode.
there are a lot of instances where the others do take on the role of caregivers, but I am curious whether the gendered roles the group sometimes falls into is sth the show wants to comment on.

So far, Chueam x April is like the Fexi of Only Friends. The writer is barely giving them scenes together and yet they are still the sweetest couple in the show and in their own little world amongst all the chaos 🥹
