Berylliosis | Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments
Tumblr media
Berylliosis, also known as chronic beryllium disease (CBD), is a granulomatous condition caused by beryllium exposure.
People who work in industries that manufacture and process beryllium are more likely to develop CBD.
The primary cause is beryllium exposure.
Heavy beryllium-using industries include electronics, defense industries, metal machine shops, and beryllium extraction companies.
Other industries include those ceramics, automotive, aerospace, jewelry making, dental/alloy appliances, and computers.
CBD’s clinical manifestations are nonspecific.
The time between beryllium exposure and the onset of symptoms can range from three months to 30 years.
Common symptoms include: –
Fever.
Night sweats.
Weight loss.
Dry cough.
Fatigue.
Based on a patient’s medical history, positive blood or bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) beryllium lymphocyte proliferation test (BeLPT), and granulomatous inflammation on a lung biopsy, berylliosis can be diagnosed with certainty.
The first step is to establish beryllium sensitivity, which is determined by the beryllium lymphocyte proliferation test (BeLPT).
Prevention involves elimination, containment, ventilation (with filtering of discharged air), and the use of personal protective equipment.
Since there is no known cure for berylliosis, the aims of treatment are to lessen symptoms and slow the disease’s progression.
All patients must be immunized against influenza and pneumococcal, in addition to smoking cessation counseling.
Corticosteroids are the preferred medication for treating chronic beryllium disease.

Berylliosis _ Sound therapy session _ Sounds of nature
Tumblr media
https://rumble.com/v45eqy8-berylliosis-sound-therapy-session-sounds-of-nature.html?mref=17947j&mc=9fatg
Berylliosis, a rare but serious lung disease caused by exposure to beryllium, requires comprehensive and multidimensional treatment. While conventional medicine plays a crucial role in managing Berylliosis, incorporating complementary therapies like resonant frequency sound therapy can offer additional benefits. Resonant frequency sound therapy is a non-invasive approach that utilizes specific sound frequencies to harmonize and restore balance within the body. It is based on the principle that every organ and system in the body has its own resonant frequency. By exposing the body to these frequencies, resonant frequency sound therapy aims to promote healing and enhance overall well-being. One of the primary benefits of resonant frequency sound therapy for Berylliosis patients is its potential to relieve respiratory symptoms. The gentle vibrations produced by specific frequencies can help to loosen mucus, reduce inflammation, and improve lung function. This therapy can provide relief from coughing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness, allowing patients to breathe more easily. Living with a chronic illness like Berylliosis can be physically and emotionally challenging. Resonant frequency sound therapy has shown great promise in promoting relaxation and reducing stress levels among patients. The soothing vibrations and harmonious sounds can help calm the mind, alleviate anxiety, and improve overall emotional well-being. This, in turn, can positively impact the immune system and aid in the healing process. Berylliosis weakens the immune system, making patients more vulnerable to infections and other illnesses. Resonant frequency sound therapy has the potential to enhance immune function by stimulating the production of immune cells and promoting a balanced immune response. By strengthening the immune system, this therapy can aid in fighting off infections, reducing the risk of complications, and supporting overall health. In addition to its specific benefits for Berylliosis patients, resonant frequency sound therapy contributes to overall wellness. It promotes a sense of harmony, balance, and well-being in both the body and mind. By addressing the holistic needs of patients, this therapy acts as a complementary approach to conventional medicine, enhancing the overall effectiveness of treatment. Resonant frequency sound therapy offers a range of benefits as an adjunctive treatment for Berylliosis when used in combination with conventional medicine. From relieving respiratory symptoms and promoting relaxation to enhancing immune function and supporting overall wellness, this therapy provides valuable support for patients. Through the integration of these approaches, Berylliosis patients can experience comprehensive care that addresses their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. TO ACHIEVE A POSITIVE RESULT, DAILY LISTENING TO VIDEOS IS REQUIRED.

Okay got back from a crudy trip to Florida. Was exhausted but I finished Beryllium.
Tumblr media
She was fun to put together and push my skills abit. I'm getting more used to clip studio and everything I can do with it.
Beryllium is a rare element and its pure form generally has to be extraxted from beryl. The crystal that includes emerald, aquamarine, morganite and 4 others. These are the gems on her belt. Beryllium itself is very dark and grey in it coloration. It's not reactive so burning or electrocuting it doesn't do much.
One interesting thing about beryllium that basically influenced this entire character was that there is a disease linked to breathing in dust during the extraction process. Chronic Beryllium Disease (CBD) causes crystals to form in the lungs making breathing hard, deaths are cause by pneumonia. Beryllium loves to bond with Oxygen of all things, and I liked that interplay. Another important use for the element is in the creation of beryllium copper. So I had to give the copper pillars in her hands.
Next is Boron.

Ziqitza Rajasthan : Is your Lifestyle Increasing Your Risk of Cancer?
Tumblr media
Cancer is one word which evokes fear in people. A question frequently asked is “Is my lifestyle increasing the risk of cancer?”. The answer is “YES”. Unhealthy lifestyle does increase the risk of cancer. Here are few unhealthy habits which increases your risk of cancer. Let’s hear from an expert Dr. Santosh Datar, Ziqitza Healthcare Ltd wants to say on this.
Tobacco Consumption
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “Tobacco is the single most preventable cause of death in the world”. Tobacco contains over 4000 types of chemicals. Out of these, around 200 are harmful to the human body and about 70 different chemicals have been found to be carcinogenic. Tobacco consumption in any form (viz. smoking, chewing, Gutkha, snuff etc.) is harmful.
Tobacco smoking increases the risk of cancer of lung, mouth, throat, esophagus, pancreas, kidney, bladder, cervix, blood, prostate, colon and breast. The harmful effects are not limited to the different types of cancer but include increased risk of heart attack, lung infections, chronic obstructive lung disease, stroke, peptic ulcer, bone fractures, cataract, gangrene, Alzheimer’s disease, male impotence, miscarriages and complications in women taking oral pills.
Areca Nut Consumption
It is also called “Supari” in India. It is associated with Sub Mucous Fibrosis(White patch inside the mouth)  which is a pre-cancerous condition where the person is not able to open its mouth fully. Its use has been found to lead to oral cancer. It may also result in cancer of the liver and pancreas.
Alcohol Consumption
Please remember alcohol is a poison. Alcohol consumption increases the risk of cancer of mouth, larynx, esophagus, liver, breast and cervix. The harmful effects are not limited to cancers but include increased risk of alcoholic liver disease, alcohol poisoning, alcohol addiction, coronary heart disease, brain damage, damage to heart muscles, damage to the pancreas, nerve damage, sexual dysfunction, thin bones, bone fractures, blackouts, high blood pressure, lower immunity, infections, birth defects, mental depression, malnutrition, accidents, violent behaviour and financial problems.
Obesity
Persons having body mass index (BMI) above 30 are termed as obese. Obesity is associated with increased risk of cancer of organs, such as endometrium(inner lining of the uterus), colon, breast, esophagus and pancreas. Besides increasing the risk of developing such cancers, obesity is also associated with increased chances of death resulting from such cancers. It also increases the risk of heart diseases, diabetes, high blood pressure and other ailments
Lack of Physical Activity and Exercise
Lack of physical activity and regular exercise has been linked to increased risk of cancer.
Diet
Consumption of processed meat, charred meat and excess red meat (mutton, beef, pork, organ meat) is associated with bowel cancer and has some links with esophageal and stomach cancer.
Stress
Stress weakens the immunity system, alters levels of certain hormones in the body and increases the tendency to indulge in unhealthy behaviors such as smoking and drinking. All these factors lead to increased risk of developing cancer
Infections
These include various viruses, parasites and bacterial infections which predispose the patient to develop certain cancers. Human papilloma virus (HPV) is associated with cervical cancers and oropharyngeal cancers. Hepatitis B and C are associated with liver cancers. Parasitic (Schistosomiasis) infection is associated with an increased risk of bladder cancer. H. pylori infection may result in stomach cancer. HIV infection is associated with certain cancers.
Occupational Exposure
Long term exposure to substances like asbestos, arsenic, benzene, cadmium, ethylene oxide, beryllium, nickel, vinyl chloride, radon, ionizing radiation etc. at the workplace has been found to be associated with various cancers. Common cancers associated with occupational exposure include lung, bladder, leukaemia and skin.
Environmental Exposure
This includes the environmental pollution of air, water and soil with carcinogenic chemicals including pesticides. Besides, contamination of food with aflatoxins (toxins produced by fungi) is associated with increased risk of liver cancer. Prolonged exposure to sunlight may lead to skin cancer.
Reproductive Health and Sexual Practices
Breastfeeding has been shown to lower risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Infection with human papilloma virus and other sexually transmitted diseases has been associated with increased risk of cervical cancers.  Sexual activity at an early age and multiple sex partners increases the risk of cervical cancer.  A woman who never has been pregnant has a higher risk of uterine cancer than a woman who has had at least one pregnancy.
We at Ziqitza strongly urge you to follow a healthy lifestyle. Here are a few Lifestyle changes which will act as a tool for Cancer prevention
·  Avoid alcohol, tobacco and supari
·      Eat a well-balanced, nutritious, healthy and timely diet e.g. Indian diet consisting of roti, vegetables, rice, dal, green leafy vegetables, fruits, curds or buttermilk and salads
·      Restrict the consumption of red meat and processed meat
·  Ensure you have adequate sleep for at least 7-8 hours. You should feel fresh in the morning.
·  Reduce your stress. Adequate sleep, exercise, yoga and meditation are best relaxing techniques, not dancing late night in pubs and drinking alcohol or smoking
·  Reduce weight if you are overweight or obese. Consult a doctor and qualified dietician
·  Remain physically active. Exercise regularly e.g. a daily brisk walk for 30 minutes a day. However, before starting any exercise regime, consult your doctor
·  Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight especially midday sun.
·  Maintain good genital hygiene and practice safe sex
·  Reduce exposure at the workplace to carcinogens by following occupational health and safety norms
·  Go for a regular checkup including dental checkup for early detection and treatment of cancer especially you have a family history of any cancer. Talk to your doctor about it.
·  Consult your doctor for vaccination for certain cancers (e.g. Hepatitis-B, HPV)
Adding to this Dr Datar from Ziqitza Rajasthan says it must be remembered there are no short cuts for prevention or treatment of cancer. Do not fall prey to false claims, unscientific remedies or magic cures or magic foods claimed to control or cure cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or reduce weight. Consult a qualified doctor if needed.

OSHA Proposing Several New Rule Changes for Construction Through 2021
Tumblr media
The Trump Administration has recently released its Spring 2020 Unified Agenda of Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions, which reports on the actions that each of the administrative agencies expect to issue in the future. Among those actions were several involving OSHA and construction.
There are currently 24 OSHA related items on this year’s agenda, but only a handful affecting the construction industry:
Blood Lead Level for Medical Removal
Standard affected: 29 CFR 1926.62
Status: Prerule Stage
Expected Timeframe: September 2020
Description (from agenda):   OSHA lead standards allow for the return of the employee to former job status at a BLL < below 40 µg/dL. Recent medical findings indicate that lower blood lead levels (BLLs) in adults can result in adverse health effects including hypertension, cognitive dysfunction, and effects on renal function. These and other health effects (adverse female reproductive outcomes) are being identified in individuals with BLLs under 40 µg/dL. The lead standards for general industry and construction are based on lead toxicity information that is over 35 years old. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE), and California’s Medical Management recommends that BLLs among all adults be reduced to < less than 10 µg/dL.
OSHA is seeking public input from the public to help the agency identify possible areas of the lead standards for revision to improve protection of workers in industries and occupations where preventable exposure to lead continues to occur.
Amendments to the Cranes and Derricks in Construction Standard
Standard affected: 29 CFR 1926
Status: Proposed Rule Stage
Expected Timeframe: July 2020
Description (from agenda):   Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is proposing corrections and amendments to the final standard for cranes and derricks published in August 2010. The standard has a large number of provisions designed to improve crane safety and reduce worker injury and fatality. The proposed amendments: correct references to power line voltage for direct current (DC) voltages as well as alternating current (AC) voltages; broaden the exclusion for forklifts carrying loads under the forks from "winch or hook" to a "winch and boom"; clarify an exclusion for work activities by articulating cranes; provide four definitions inadvertently omitted in the final standard; replace "minimum approach distance" with "minimum clearance distance" throughout to remove ambiguity; clarify the use of demarcated boundaries for work near power lines; correct an error permitting body belts to be used as a personal fall arrest system rather than a personal fall restraint system; replace the verb "must" with "may" used in error in several provisions; correct an error in a caption on standard hand signals; and resolve an issue of "NRTL-approved" safety equipment (e.g., proximity alarms and insulating devices) that is required by the final standard, but is not yet available.
Occupational Exposure to Crystalline Silica; Revisions to Table 1 in the Standard for Construction
Standard affected: 29 CFR 1926.1153(c)
Status: Proposed Rule Stage
Expected Timeframe: March 2021
Description (from agenda): On March 25, 2016, OSHA published a final rule on Occupational Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica (81 FR 16286). OSHA issued two separate standards, one for construction, and one for general industry and maritime. The construction standard includes Table 1:  Specified Exposure Control Methods When Working With Materials Containing Crystalline Silica, which matches common construction tasks with dust control methods that have been shown to be effective. In some operations, respirators are also needed. Employers who follow Table 1 correctly are not required to measure workers’ exposure to silica and are not subject to the permissible exposure limit (PEL).
OSHA is interested in information on the effectiveness of control measures not currently included for tasks and tools listed in Table 1. The agency is also interested in tasks and tools involving exposure to respirable crystalline silica that are not currently listed in Table 1, along with information on the effectiveness of dust control methods in limiting worker exposure to respirable crystalline silica when performing those operations. OSHA intends to evaluate the available information to determine if revisions to Table 1 may be appropriate.
Welding in Construction Confined Spaces
Standard affected: 29 CFR 1926.353
Status: Proposed Rule Stage
Expected Timeframe: July 2020
Description (from agenda): OSHA is proposing to amend the Welding and Cutting Standard in construction to eliminate any perceived ambiguity about the definition of "confined space" that applies to welding activities in construction.  On May 4, 2015, when OSHA published the final rule for Confined Spaces in Construction, a new subpart was added to provide protections to employees working in confined spaces in construction.  This new subpart replaced OSHA's one training requirement for confined space work with a comprehensive standard that includes a permit program designed to protect employees from exposure to many hazards associated with work in confined spaces, including atmospheric and physical hazards.  The explanation of the final rule also discusses in detail how the Welding and Cutting Standard in Construction works together with the confined spaces standard regarding the application of their respective requirements.  Although the confined spaces standard states that it encompasses welding activities, the welding standard itself does not expressly identify a definition of "confined space".  OSHA will conduct a rulemaking to eliminate any perceived ambiguity about the definition of confined space that applies to welding activities in construction.
Drug Testing Program and Safety Incentives Rule
Standard affected: 29 CFR 1904.35(b)(1)(iv)
Status: Proposed Rule Stage
Expected Timeframe: November 2020
Description (from agenda): OSHA clarified, through a memorandum to the field, the agency’s position that 29 CFR 1904.35(b)(1)(iv) does not prohibit post-incident drug testing or safety incentive programs.  The agency would propose memorializing OSHA’s position on these issues through changes to 29 CFR 1904.35(b)(1)(iv) related to implementation of post-incident drug testing and safety incentive programs.
Personal Protective Equipment in Construction
Standard affected: 29 CFR 1926.95
Status: Proposed Rule Stage
Expected Timeframe: August 2020
Description (from agenda): This action would clarify the requirements for the fit of personal protective equipment in construction.
Cranes and Derricks in Construction: Exemption Expansions for Railroad Roadway Work
Standard affected: None
Status: Final Rule Stage
Expected Timeframe: June 2020
Description (from agenda): After the final rule for Cranes and Derricks in Construction was published on August 9, 2010, the Association of American Railroads (AAR) filed a petition for review on October 7, 2010, challenging certain exemptions affecting railroad roadway work. OSHA and AAR reached a September 9, 2014, settlement agreement filed with the court. The settlement agreement requires OSHA to propose a rule to expand exemptions affecting railroad roadway work by providing an additional exemption from the crane standard for a particular class of track maintenance hoisting equipment and partial exemptions from, or alternate work practices in lieu of particular requirements of the cranes standard. This final rule will address compliance concerns raised by the railroad industry.
Occupational Exposure to Beryllium and Beryllium Compounds in Construction and Shipyard Sectors
Standard affected: 29 CFR 1926.112
Status: Final Rule Stage
Expected Timeframe: July 2020
Description (from agenda): On January 9, 2017, OSHA published its final rule Occupational Exposure to Beryllium and Beryllium Compounds in the Federal Register (82 FR 2470). OSHA concluded that employees exposed to beryllium and beryllium compounds at the preceding permissible exposure limits (PELs) were at significant risk of material impairment of health, specifically chronic beryllium disease and lung cancer.  OSHA also concluded that the new 8-hour time-weighted average (TWA) PEL of µg/m3 reduced this significant risk to the maximum extent feasible.  OSHA has evidence that beryllium exposure in construction and shipyards occurs almost exclusively during abrasive blasting and welding operations. OSHA is proposing to revise its standards for occupational exposure to beryllium and beryllium compounds in the construction and shipyards industries. These proposed changes are designed to accomplish three goals: (1) to more appropriately tailor the requirements of the construction and shipyards standards to the particular exposures in these industries in light of partial overlap between the beryllium standards’ requirements and other OSHA standards; (2) to more closely align the shipyards and construction standards to the general industry standard, where appropriate; and (3) to clarify certain requirements with respect to materials containing only trace amounts of beryllium.

Meet The Bobs
Using Bob to visualise the effects of the elements was always the idea, and I have to say I'm really please at how these turned out. I did alot of research into how each element would affect humans, and made sure to have a range within each element: Arsenic: • Long term exposure can cause diseases, including cancer • It causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea before death • It's most deadly in its liquid form
Plutonium: • Ingesting Plutonium causes serious health problems, and almost certain death • Plutonium is highly radioactive and if ingested radioactivity will penetrate organs • It causes hair loss, nausea and confusion
Beryllium: • Swelling of the liver and spleen • Long term exposure causes chronic beryllium disease (CBD) and lung cancer • Exhaustion
Francium: • Francium reacts with the water in your hand and will explode on contact • Francium is highly radioactive • It can cause a wide range of diseases, including cancer
Fluorine: • Fluorine is most dangerous as a gas • It attacks eyes, effectively blinding the victim • It also attacks the lungs and airways, making it hard to breathe

Trump's Repeal Of Beryllium Protections Puts Tens Of Thousands Of Workers At Risk
Once again the Trump administration is using their power to steamroll workers and the health protections those workers have fought and died for.  This week, they announced they want to roll back the proposed OSHA rule on Beryllium exposure.
“More working people will die if the Trump administration rolls back OSHA’s beryllium rule,” said AFL-CIO President, Richard Trumka. “It also will mark the first time in history for the government to roll back worker safety protections against a cancer-causing toxin. The entire labor movement will work together to fight any proposal that takes away standards that keep us safe at work.”
Beryllium-rule rollback will literally kill American workers (see chronic beryllium disease): https://t.co/2AAnW8BES0 #WednesdayWisdom #1u pic.twitter.com/r4lORsBfPN
— RoseAnn DeMoro (@RoseAnnDeMoro) June 22, 2017
(Tweet from RoseAnn DeMoro, President of the National Nurses United.)
“Once again, the Trump administration’s Labor Department is taking us backwards and undermining the core principle that no worker should have to sacrifice his or her life for a job,” said Christine Owens, Executive Director, National Employment Law Project.  “Today, at the behest of corporate special interests, the Labor Department issued a proposed rule to loosen health protections for workers exposed to the chemical beryllium.”
Beryllium is a toxic metal known to cause fatal diseases such as chronic beryllium disease of the lungs and lung cancer, even when very low levels are inhaled.
“No matter where they work, U.S. workers deserve protection from exposure to hazardous – and potentially lethal – toxic materials,” said Jessica Martinez, co-executive director, National Council for Occupational Safety and Health. “The proposal announced today by the U.S. Department of Labor to weaken standards that limit exposure to beryllium for shipyard and construction workers is a step backwards.”
The proposal would eliminate the “ancillary provisions” of the beryllium rule that would have extended specific new protections to construction and shipyard workers, including exposure assessments, personal protective equipment, medical surveillance and protected work areas. These provisions were included in OSHA’s rule in response to pressure from labor unions and public health groups, including Public Citizen.
“Like other beryllium-exposed workers, construction and shipyard workers deserve to go to work without risking their lives,” said Dr. Sammy Almashat, researcher for Public Citizen’s Health Research Group. “By eliminating lifesaving protections for workers in these specified industries, the Trump administration is recklessly putting corporate interests above workers’ lives.”
“It is well documented that shipyard and construction workers can be exposed to beryllium.  They need the same protections as other workers – including monitoring and assessing exposure to potential harm and taking steps to eliminate hazards which can lead to life-threatening diseases,” said Martinez.
In a rulemaking process that lasted more than a decade, OSHA asked stakeholders to comment on whether its final beryllium rule should extend protections to workers in the construction and shipyard industries. After careful consideration, the agency determined that it needed to cover these workers with a lower permissible exposure limit of 0.2 micrograms per cubic meter of air. That limit is preserved in today’s proposal. But the agency also recognized the need to mandate specific protections for construction and shipyard workers. These ancillary provisions have been revoked in the administration’s proposal.
“To protect workers, consistent with its legal authority, OSHA set the lowest exposure standards that were technologically and economically feasible. But because beryllium is highly toxic, the Labor Department knew that workers could still get sick at these exposure limits. So it put into place additional protections—such as medical surveillance of workers near but below the exposure limit—to ensure that any diseases were caught at the early stages. The Labor Department initially projected that these additional protections would save 96 lives per year and prevent 46 new cases of disease,” explained Owens.
OSHA was right to safeguard these workers in its final rule, Public Citizen maintains. According to the agency, beryllium threatens 62,000 workers. OSHA’s own inspection data show that 70 percent of the 11,500 construction and shipyard workers who come into contact with beryllium while performing open-air abrasive blasting are, in fact, exposed to airborne beryllium that can result in debilitating lifelong illnesses and early deaths.
“If this proposal to weaken the beryllium rule goes into effect, construction and shipyard workers will die and be permanently disabled as a result,” said Emily Gardner, worker health and safety advocate for Public Citizen’s Congress Watch division. “The final beryllium rule issued at the end of the Obama administration must be reinstated immediately.”
