Christof Gassner, brochures for theatrical programming of german TV Channel ZDF, 1980s. Scan: Florian Hardwig. Collection of Letterform Archive. More to see: fontsinuse
“I have two big ideals (sic) for my typographical works: First, the calligraphers and book artists before Gutenberg: second, Herb Lubalin, who gave back, with his epochal work, the lost imagination to typography.”

'Dominating the proceedings from start to finish is the visual perfection of the “settings” Christof [(played by Ed Harris)] has created as the backdrop for Truman’s life and, by extension, of the film itself. Shooting at Seaside, Florida, [Peter] Weir and his ace team, led by production designer Dennis Gassner and cinematographer Peter Biziou, dazzlingly reveal a veritable velvet coffin under glass, a “safe” haven that the self-styled benevolent fascist Christof can convincingly argue is "the best place on Earth."' ️THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT IN MEDIA (🧱) THE TRUMAN SHOW (1998), dir. Peter Weir — and the town of Seahaven Island

Spector Cut + Paste: #1-4 / Available at www.draw-down.com / Spector cut+paste was a magazine conceived as a permanent workshop—and the beginnings of what would later become Leipzig-based publisher Spector Books. It was in these pages that Spector's editors discovered the themes that still emerge in their publishing program today; here that they learned to balance artistic and publicist practices; here that they began to combine texts, images and typography into their own formats and to explore the content-based aspects of visual design. Four issues were published between 2001 and 2008, and they are now available in bundled form here. With contributions from Kathrin Röggla, Rimini Protokoll, Slavoj Žižek, Vladimir Sorokin, Tilo Schulz, Mark Hamilton, Christof Gassner, Olaf Nicolai, Aglaia Konrad, Thorsten Krämer, Gitte Villesen and others. Designed by Oliver Klimpel, Helmut Völter, Markus Dreßen, Maria Koehn #graphicdesign #typography #magazine #workshop
