How do you know who you want to be with in 10 years?

That's what this character just said. I was so struck by that I just have to write. I have to say, for the 27 jillionth time, how in love with my husband I am.

Today wasn't a lazy Sunday, even though Jess was home today. He was all ambitious and determined, like usual, because he doesn't really ever have lazy days. I used to wish he would, but with retail ramping up as the season gets into full swing, I acquiesce. I'm incredibly stubborn, but I defer to him because his comfort is my concern. I take the lead as needed, but my job right now is back up.

I just finished the furniture for the kid's room. Even with my bursitis and arthritis and sprain, I managed to rearrange everything so they each have a dresser and the entire closet. Jess went and bought it after work one day, I painted it that night, and the next day I moved it. That's one of the best examples of why my marriage is beautiful; we're complimentary and we encourage each other to utilize our full potential.

A year ago, I already knew that I wanted to learn more about him. He encouraged me to talk to his friends, ask things I might wonder, and do whatever it would take to put my mind at ease about allowing him into my world. He had already said he loved me. I did not reciprocate. I wanted to watch him, turn him on, to figure him out, to take him on, as the song says. He was willing to allow me to take my time, but he also let me know he was all in.

I feel like I was never really appreciated as a partner, not until him. He is in awe of my sewing ability. When I explained my vision for the kid's furniture, he was skeptical but admitted that he's not creative in that way. Our gurl absolutely loves it, and our son is happy he helped me paint. We've all been through so much from those who claim to love us, yet we still trust in each other that we will make this family work. We've struggled to get free from the chains of addiction and are somehow creating new traditions, new habits, new dialogues, and new futures.

I hadn't ever thought I would find someone who would always fascinate me. I'm used to being the object of the gaze, and I'm also used to being too intimidating for anyone to pursue me. I knew the first time we locked eyes that Something Special was happening. What I didn't anticipate was the feelings of comfort, safety, and security to be so immediate when there was also such strong sexual attraction. His generosity in all areas was also new, and that has never waned.

So much of the daily minutiae that bogged me down is no longer an issue. I'm free to tend my plants, work on my writing, and plan for our future. My two degrees are once again a source of pride. I'm happy with the gurl in the mirror, and I love my life.

My world changed so much in the last year, and it was almost completely positive. We've had our share of obstacles, stalkers, drama queens, and liars but our commitment hasn't wavered. All of the attempts to separate us have made our relationship so much stronger. I love waking up to him every day, and falling asleep as he snores every night. We're both working on ourselves, our family, and I am excited for what the future holds.

I don't know who I'll be in 10 years but I don't have a single hesitation that I'll want him by my side. The best part is that I don't doubt he'll be there.
