POW DAY

As soon as I laid eyes on the Andes covered in fresh sparkly magical snow during the hike @ Cerro Manquehue, it was GAME OVER for me. I needed more. So I decided to splurge and check out the Chilean ski/snowboard situation. 

Luckily I have a great flexible job that lets me go snowboarding on a Tuesday (I do work I swear!...) so I peeled myself out of bed at 6am to meet up w some new friends and hit the slopes. Traffic up there was terrible (the cops stopped every single car to make sure they had chains, even though it was probably 50-60 degrees outside) but we finally made it to the promised land fueled by red bull and chocolate chip cookies.  The resort was ironically called “El Colorado” which I took as a good omen sent from my homeland.

Writing this now, 4 days later, my body still hurts and my face is starting to peel but it was all for a good cause: floating through thick, luscious powder in the Chilean Andes. And digging myself out of thick, luscious powder in the Chilean Andes. And falling off those STUPID &*!$%?! T-Bar lifts like 7 times. With the bruises to prove it. Idk about you guys but that is a tricky technique on a snowboard, especially when you already happen to be someone who trips over her own feet on a daily basis. The look in the lift operator guy’s eyes when I returned to try to get up the mountain AGAIN after losing my balance on the stupid toothpick torture device was a mixture of pity, frustration and bewilderment. 

Besides that little bump in the road (okay, a few bumps) – it was an awesome day. I learned some Chilean curse words, taught the guys how to use the word “groovy”, breathed precious mountain air, and played in the powder. Praise the snow gods!!
