Overview: Chennai is the Capital of Tamil Nadu state of India and is the 4th biggest city of India. Famous Temples in Chennai

The 7th century Kapaleeshwarar Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are two entrances to the temples with a gopuram (tower-like) on both the sides. Temple has a tank in the West which is surrounded by broad streets on four sides. Goddess Parvati is worshipped in the temple and has been incarnated as Goddess Karpagambal or the ‘Goddess of the Wish-Yielding Tree’. Close to Marina beach, is a Sri Parthasarathy Temple which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. The Temple was built by the Pallavas in the 8th century. The temple has incarnations of Lord Vishnu in his four forms namely Narasimha, Rama, Varaha and Krishna.

San Thome Church: The church was first built by Portuguese explorers in the 16th century, became a cathedral in 1606, and was later reconstructed by the Britishers in the 19th century. This church is one of the only three known churches in the world built over the tomb of an apostle of Jesus, the other two being St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City and Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Galicia, Spain.

Mahabalipuram: Mahabalipuram is situated at a diatance of 52 kms fromChein Kanchipuram district in the state of Tamil Nadu. Mahabalipuram is an ancient port city known for its beaches and temples.
