I’d like to rec “Silver Linings” by a_cumberbatch - it’s one of those “how the hell doesn’t this have more kudos?!” fics - modern no powers AU with a kinda-soulmate vibe going on, where a touch of a person you’re attracted to marks your skin. In which Steve and Bucky are forced to room together their senior year at boarding school, and accidentally soul bond to each other even though they kind of hate each other. All they have to do to get out of it is not kiss each other for a year so the accidental bond will fade. How hard could it be?

Can I rec A Quiet Front, by curious_werewolf and themastersbeard.

It is a great writing of what if Steve was discovered in ice during 1940s. The writer has a perfect grasp of Steves personality and how much emotional struggle he is going through having to go home without Bucky.

“We’re not going to give you any trouble about that,” Fury presses, turning to squint at them head on. “Stark likes to say we’re opened minded and close-knit. Your private life is your business, but you don’t need to hide here, understand?”

Steve goes to reiterate that they’re not a couple, but startles when Bucky’s hand settles on the small of his back. He looks at him like he’s lost his mind, but Bucky’s just smiling at him. “Never can be too careful these days,” he says.

(Steve and Bucky pretend to be a couple when they move in, but at some point, it stops feeling like pretend.)
