*The smaller hedgehog had been waiting for what seemed like an eternity. Sitting, waiting...He hated it. It felt like he should be doing something to fix the mess he found himself in. Instead he had to wait...I didn't help his internal anxiety. Who knows what was going to happen next, but he knew it wouldn't be good. Lil' dreaded what he was expecting next, but it wasn't going to stop him.*

*All the meanwhile he had been trying to recover a bit from the events that previously transpired. While he wounds weren't serious, they could have been. Yet those burn marks, now dressed and covered up, weren't the only thing that was affecting him at the moment...It was this feeling that he wasn't alone. There was another presence nearby that his own sixth sense was unable to ignore. It felt powerful...Primal...Raw. He knew what they were. He only felt this around Arrow and one other thing...Chaos Emeralds. Granted as single emerald wasn't enough to make him feel...odd. But a collection of most of them? It messed with him a bit. Not enough to be serious, but enough to make him feel uncomfortable here. Still, it was better than him getting shot again.*

*Yet there was some good news. He had heard there was a good chance Gold could be reached sooner rather than later. The others were close in fact. He would have helped, but he felt he would have been stopped and told to rest. Yet the resting just made him feel more anxious. He was doing a damn good job hiding it, at least he hoped so. He was normal to hide this things while he was in stressful situations like these. Now was not the time to break.*

*Yet his thoughts would soon be directed towards the sound of footsteps heading his way. He was a bit on edge, but expected it to be Tenko, Kinbotor, or maybe one of the other Freedom Fighters that arrived. Perhaps even Arrow. For what it's worth, he was keeping himself from doing anything rash, as if he was expecting the worst. But his paranoia of the robotic duo hunting him faded when he saw who it really was.*

Zeena would eye them from above, "So, you've been busy trying to follow me haven't you? You little twerp, what do you want?" The Zeti was checking her nails, but ready to react whoever this was, as Zeena had been relatively under the radar and out of sight. She did commit crimes of theft and pummeled anyone that got in the way, however.

It was a strange thing to see. Looked more like some kind of costume, but here he'd been told it was real. Sonic had never lied to him before, although it was in the back of his head that maybe this was some elaborate prank. If it was, how he got those fangs to look so real was beyond this tanuki.

"At least you're still you. That's all I'll ever care about, no matter how your appearance changes."

Although all bets were off if that hedgehog tried to bite him. Hopefully this wouldn't spoil Kounosuke's birthday, it was in less than two weeks. He'd planned to prepare fish cakes, rather than a sweet cake. Something Sonic could enjoy just as much as he did.

With the obstacle course behind them, Dan was all too happy to be standing on firm, unmoving ground again though it didn’t mean it was yet time to just freely act as much as he may have liked with the new tight squeeze they’d gotten into. It was still more spacious moving along these pipes than the prior vents though! They may have reached their next goal but it was no time to celebrate yet given it would only take one misstep or more alert security to potentially notice them up there amongst the dark of the corridors.

The concern in his heart only intensified once he heard Johnny mutter those words, Their target was nearby? Dan would lean slightly forwards to try and look past his partner to spot the masked figure up ahead. “You reckon you can get a snapshot of em from here?” It didn’t seem unreasonable to do so but would the current view be enough?

To make matters worse, its not like they had all the time to mull it over as the other probably wouldn’t remain stood there forever, it looked as if they were impatiently waiting for something....or someone? Alternatively it could be some sort of security check? It wouldn’t be too surprising given the increased ‘glamour’ of that space in comparison to the rest of the dull metallic scenery. If that was the case there’s no chance they could simply go through that door themselves if it came down to further pursuit.

While those auto-patrols of eggpawns and the like weren’t a concern right now, the fact they existed didn’t make it any easier either if they were to simply drop back down, accident or otherwise. “If you can’t get a good view of em, I could try pulling them closer with some sorta distraction?” It was another risky option but what wasn’t at this point?

Standing in their kitchen and looking out at the garden in question, Volt smiled when he heard his partner's soft voice. Turning his head allowed him to see the expression in emerald eyes. He understood it, maybe even matched it as he reached out with one hand to intertwine their fingers and draw the hero closer so they could both look out the window.

"It looks beautiful as always." They put so much time into it together that he just had to point it out. His thumb gently moved back and forth against Arrow's hand as their eyes met, and his smile remained while he nodded.

It had been something they promised one another just earlier that year and it almost seemed like it was too soon. But Volt wanted to have the conversation and was more than ready if his soulmate was.

"How 'bout I make us some tea while you go get it from the bookshelf. We can look at it out by the fire pit since the breeze isn't too strong."

"I wish I could show you one of my performances. I've never heard of anything that can record an actual display of someone doing something! Not without special magic."

Technology like that didn't exactly work when wet. Since merpeople primarily used lightning magic for lighting things up, they didn't have to worry about the actual form of electricity that surface dwellers used to power such things. That electricity, and water, didn't really mix well.

That was a reason to be careful in storms, even for fish. Lightning generated by a cloud was also different than the lightning generated from a merperson's magic. Not that it stopped her from going up to the surface after a storm. The sky was always so beautiful, with a mixture of clouds, and stars at night.

She watches the younger point at the water. Children were so adorable.

"Yes! I'm from the water!" Ariel laughs. "And maybe someday when you're older, your father will let me show you my world too. Oh, I promise to keep you safer than a pirate's treasure!"

He was more inclined to use his medical training than he was to use his power. People got selfish when you constantly healed them with Chaos Energy. They learned nothing, and would make the same mistakes again expecting another free heal.

Maybe it was a case by case basis.

Taking a few steps closer, he takes a look at the injury. Just a scrape, literally nothing a band aid couldn't fix. There's a lopsided frown on the squirrel's face, as his hands go behind his back. His tail flicks, and soon, there's a small kit pulled out from underneath his top jacket. His attention turned to Sonic.

"Is she good with strangers? You probably already know it's something simple, but antibacterial gel is a must, even for the tiniest of scrapes."

     {➹} –THE HEDGEHOG HADN’T met someone like them who didn’t require extreme amounts of food either, so he had chalked it up to a perfectly normal thing. He did raise a brow, however at one of her statements and couldn’t help himself from poking at it a little. “So…you weren’t born with your speed?” It wasn’t unheard of, but it was a little strange to hear for someone like him who had been running around since the age of three, and only gotten faster with time and a handful of new abilities. He supposed it didn’t really matter, everyone and every world was different after all. “I’ve always had it, as far as I know. If I hadn’t I don’t think the villagers would have named me ’Sonic’ for no reason,” he chuckled, but in a fond way. “T’ say I was a handful would be an understatement, an’ I didn’t get much better until I hit my thirties, frankly. Even people like us slow down in some sense with age. At least, I hope so.” She could make of that what she wanted as the hedgehog took another bite of his food, looking out into the city with a content expression.

Shrugging to the question, Lightning looked into the distance for a moment or two more before answering. "Well, I mean... could always be it was always there, just... how do you say that, not activated yet, or something. But yes, for a good few years, all I knew was that I was a normal human." Normal being not quite true here, but, normal in the 'superpower' regards at least. "It just suddenly activated one day when I was running, and then I couldn't stop for way too long." She was glad that it did, and it would probably be better to not hang around this part of her powers for too long - Lightning would rather not have to talk about her past before that. Though, then again, she could always just make something up if he was going to ask about it.

After a moment, she chuckled. "Those villagers probably didn't have your speed? Or did everyone have it?" Though then again that would take away the 'reason' for his name, if it was normal, probably. "I can't imagine how it must be to deal with a superspeed child when you don't have the speed yourself. Wow." And the feeding! If as baby he also already needed a lot more. "I shouldn't find it so amusing to imagine - good that you had a capable bunch of people watching you, and managing that."

"A CHALLENGE? FOR ME? OH, YOU ARE IN FOR A TREAT." Just from that alone, his mood initially had shot from 1 to 10 at that idea. He loved a good race, especially when it was a challenge like this. He never showed mercy in a challenge, and he was sure to keep to his word when he did.

As for a race into the corn maze, it was large enough to where he couldn't see over it. It was thick with green and enough to blind his view a little. And, like any challenge, he knew to not cheat. Not with Sonic asking him to something as exciting as this. Anticipating to prepare, he started to do a little arm stretch.

"FIRST TO GET LOST IN THE CORN MAZE. AND DON'T WORRY, I'LL BE SURE TO FIND YOU WHEN YOU CALL FOR HELP," he winked with a playful grin. "I'LL MAKE IT EASIER FOR YOU TO BE ON ALL FOURS. DON'T WORRY. I WON'T CHEAT WITH MY HEIGHT FOR YOU. I'M A GOOD RUNNER ON ALL FOURS."

*He took the opportunity to look over his shoulders. It was obvious what he was looking for. He was looking to see if he was followed. Although, the "disguise" seemed to do the trick, even if it was more to just let him not be recognized as easily. He wouldn't linger long in looking away before turning back to the other.*

"I would have went elsewhere, but this is kind of the safest spot in the zone I know of and well...My other form of transportation is sort of not functioning one-hundred percent properly at the moment so my choice was pretty limited."

*And there was no way he would risk going directly to Arrow's home, even if Lil' was welcomed there. He couldn't blatantly risk the other's family like that. He might have made some terrible calls in the past, but he was far from able to think logically. It didn't mean it always worked out for him, but in this case he took the safest bet in coming here. Better that then waiting out in some random location to get caught out again.*

Of course he was concerned. But that wouldn't stop him from being a beacon of warmth. If a person wasn't tired, they weren't tired. He'd always believed it important to try to rest, even when you weren't. But that didn't necessarily mean sleeping. They could just rest like this for a while.

"If I had to choose between sleeping and eating, I'd choose eating. But sleeping is fun too. You get to snuggle your blankets and pillows all night long, even if you don't particularly sleep."
