Mana
So I've been wanting to make a post about this for some time now, and after seeing this post by @bringmechilifriez, I've decided to finally write it down.
I totally agree with the post above, and wanted to add my over 4 month old draft. .
So in " where the magic happens", Gwen explains to Charmcaster what Mana is.
On the wiki page it's stated as an error in the episode but,
Tumblr media
I don't think Charmcaster actually knew what Mana really was. Like she knows the name, but to her it's magic.
If I remember correctly Gwen also had to explain to her what an anodite is ( could be wrong, it's been a while since I've properly seen the episode)
If you still don't believe me when I say charmcaster doesn't really know about mana, here me out.
Tumblr media
In " in charms way", when Kevin says Gwen's made of Magic she questions it with an attitude, as though she couldn't believe it.
It's like she genuinely has no idea what anodites are, even though they both use the same energy source.
Which is pretty weird if you think about it.
Tumblr media
Further going back to the classic series, yes I know the anodite theory didn't exist then buuuut if we headcanon some Canon, Gwen could utilise the staff at the age of 10 while hex said only a master magician could use it.
And if anything it was a shocking moment for him when she could.
I headcanon it was because she was an anodite so she already had the power to use the staff whereas someone like hex who isn't a true anodite needs years and years to master the weapon.
My point is, it's a little weird to me how hex and charmcaster don't know much about anodites but their whole lives revolve around mana.
Also if charmcaster knew about anodites, she would've guessed that draining Gwen's magic wouldn't really do anything to her. Maybe temporarily rid her of her mana, sure, but it would've eventually come back. Gwen's an anodite, like Kevin said she's made of Magic. If charmcaster really took away all the mana in Gwen, she'd be dead.
~~~~
Going off on @bringmechilifriez 's headcanon, i agree that anodites originated from ledgerdomain, but I headcanon not everyone inherited the spark.
Those who didn't use loopholes like spells and such to manipulate mana, create rock monsters and such whereas it just comes naturally to anodites.
I mean Verdona and Sunny just stood in place and snapped their fingers and things were happening. Charmcaster and hex cast spells, plus not once did they shed their skin for some sort of reveal.
Tumblr media
Those who did inherit the spark , eventually left to live in a new place called anodyne. Why? Classism.
The " rich and powerful" chose to live away, the don't need to stay in ledgerdomain to be powerful, they already are.
Those who didn't remained back in ledgerdomain because their human bodies can't handle living in space.
Now why don't the people back in ledgerdomain not know about anodites? Could've been an erasure in history.
Maybe adwaiytta didn't want them to know about it, maybe they posed a threat to his rule so he decided to keep them away from anodites, less powerful beings for him to fight?
So over time , he either removed their memories about anodites or it had been so many centuries since they that people just naturally forgot or considered anodites a Myth.
Man hopefully this made sense, because I haven't proof read this post.
This is Charmony a magical golem like Stone being.
She was originally named Harmony but her admiration for Chamrcaster lead her to change her name.
She doesn’t mind female pronouns but not like being gendered as one or even at all.
She can use magic and the mana is like color flames.
She wears a wig and clothes to assume a more human-like look.
She is supposedly an alt of my prime OC Azlin
Some alternate ending, some B10/Pern xover, some Monette
Basically I got a wild hair and ran with it
~~
Gwendolyn hoped, nay wished, that someday she would be able to take and hold command over situations and people as well as this unfamiliar woman had.
She couldn’t tell you exactly what had happened, all she knew was that one moment she, Hex, Adwaita, and Darkstar had all been in Charmcaster’s bag, and then they hadn’t been. They’d been out in the courtyard of Friedkin with her team, the woman, fucking Bezel, and two red-eyed whers, the smaller of which had Charmcaster pinned to the ground with their paw on her back. Adwaita vanished away immediately, but it was a scene Gwendolyn couldn’t draw her attention away from, out of confusion, surprise, and concern, even as the boys crowded around her to make sure she was alright.
“Sweetpea,” the woman chimed with a smile as Darkstar beelined for her side, shifting to stay between him and Charmcaster, “you’re alright?”
“I’m in one piece.”
“It’ll do.” She patted him on the shoulder and he cringed as she continued with “I’ve been informed of your behavior. We’ll be discussing it.” And that was that, apparently, as she turned away and waved her whers aside. As soon as the great blue foot was off her, Charmcaster climbed to her feet with a glare that did nothing to break the woman’s expression.
“You’ve made a dangerous enemy,” she said, though didn’t attack. Gwendolyn had to assume that the whers had made quite the impression.
“Charmcaster-” Mike immediately took a step back and, catching the hint, Kevin and Rook dragged she and Ben back as well. “-Galaxy has given me a very nice look in your head, as you’ve so loudly noted, you can’t think you’re the only one angry.” The woman’s expression didn’t belie it, not until an edge came to her smile. “If we find you’ve bothered any of them-” she gestured at them and Darkstar “-again, then we will personally make sure you never get another chance to. Alright?” Magic pooled in Chamrcaster’s hand only for the larger of the whers to step forward with another snarl, mouth open to reveal a horde of teeth, a trail of saliva dripping from their maw to wither and sizzle the weeds between the stones.
Charmcaster stood down.
“Fantastic,” the woman said, apparently taking it as a reply. “Now, if we’re all ready to act like adults-” she cast a pointed look towards Hex and Bezel “-you lot can work out whatever issues you have while we take care of the children.” And then they were in motion. Presumably there’d been a silent command somewhere in there because immediately the whers both brushed past Charmcaster and began herding Gwendolyn and the boys back inside, the woman in the center of it all with her arm in Darkstar’s.
“Okay,” Gwendolyn asked Kevin, dropping a few steps behind even as the blue gently nudged them towards the library, “who the fuck is that?”
“His cousin,” he answered plainly. “She got in touch with me a few months back about letting her know the next time we found him. After she grabbed you and Hex, it wasn’t hard to guess Charmcaster might have him too so…”
“So you called her? Against Charmcaster?” He shrugged.
“Figured it couldn’t hurt, get a wherhandler involved. Especially since the only other help we had was Bezel and he’s… Not helpful.” She wanted to argue, because this was Bezel, but he continued before she could. “Anyway, I don’t want to have to deal with Darkstar and she’ll handle him for me, fuck it, I’m game.” With a sigh, Gwendolyn shook her head.
“She’s certainly not doing a bad job of it, huh?” In front of them, Darkstar was veering back and forth between glaring at Ben as he teased and taunted him and looking like he wanted to the earth to swallow him whole as his cousin chastised him. Gwendolyn was fairly certain she heard things like ‘owe them all apologies’ and ‘Michael, darling, really’ getting thrown around and Ben and Rook looked incredibly amused. Grabbing Kevin’s hand, she dragged him back towards the rest of the group.
If Darkstar really was going to get a public earful, she didn’t want to miss it.
Never
I've recently seen some old posts talking about how Ben and Gwen trusted Kevin too quickly and it was stupid. Apparently it's something they both would've never done. It's the word never that struck me.
So I just want to add my opinion and say it wasn't a stupid move. I agree Gwen and Kevin falling in love seemed rushed but the trust thing isn't as bad as people have made it out to be.
I'm going to talk about Ben and Gwen separately.
Tumblr media
Ben
In Forge of Creation Paradox says to child Ben But one day, you'll remember it dimly and trust Kevin when you shouldn't, and he'll respond to that trust and help save the universe.
So Ben trusting Kevin wasn't out of nowhere. Paradox literally mentions that Ben will trust Kevin when he shouldn't. " shouldn't " most likely refers to when they met 5 years later. Ben shouldn't have asked Kevin to join the team but he does because Ben subconsciously knows Kevin's importance.
The show does acknowledge that Ben included Kevin in the team too quickly but also gives us a reason, though it was later on.
But even then , in Kevin's Big Score , Ben also says Still not buying the "nice guy" act, Kevin.
Again, while a part of Ben gives Kevin a chance, he still isn't too sure about his decision.
So we do have the conflict of interest shown from Ben's side so he's clear from his side.
But even if Kevin didnt save the universe Ben still would've given him a chance, maybe not that soon but eventually because thats who he is anyway. He helps Vilgax with his planet and isn't hostile against the Reiny when they were trapped. So why wouldn't he have asked Kevin to join him?
Tumblr media
Gwen
Okay with Gwen I'm probably reaching but hear me out.
In What Little Girls Are Made Of she mentions how she feels like and outsider and then says that's what she thinks high-school is anyway to try to make herself better.
[ I couldn't get transcripts for the episode and was too lazy to type out word for word ]
Also Gwen doesn't have many friends. I dont know if the writers have ever mentioned her having friends besides Emily, because I guess Ben having lots of friends before the omnitrix in Alien Force has been mentioned.
Yes I know in OS Gwen [because she had invitations ready for her birthday] had friends but its natural over time that people drift away.
My point is Gwen feels alone. I dont think she was bullied but her being different in a magic-alien sense made her feel out of place.
I guess somewhere she knew where Kevin was coming from , though not completely.
Ben would've told her about Kevin, about how he lived in New York and what he knew of his situation, so I guess in a way she put the pieces together and could relate to being different from others.
Ben has the omnitrix but he's still a human. He's still like other people, but Gwen is inherently different.
She can't just turn off her powers, they are part of her.
So Gwen placing full trust in Kevin? probably not. But she understood enough to give him a chance.
Also I've read a few old posts about how Gwen would never be with Kevin because he tried to kill her.
My thoughts on this? Gwens mature enough to know while Kevin was bad, he was also 11 years old.
He was a child. If he was older, then I would agree that the things he did were maybe unredeemable and Gwen would never.
But they were kids. He was kid with a huge troubled past, any sensible person could see that he wasnt evil, just really angry at the world. Ben just happened to be his punching bag. He mentions people laugh at him and call him a freak. He wanted revenge for that.
Gwen has shown to give people the benefit of doubt throughout the series too e.g. with P'andor.
She even tried to patch things up with Charmcaster , though she shouldn't have right? Charmcaster was just a big a threat to them as Kevin was in the OS. That post also mentioned Charmcaster being redeemed makes more sense than Kevin's. But you're reasoning Kevin shouldn't have a redemption because he tried to kill them , then charmcasters redemption also shouldn't work because she too tried to kill them.
Having a preference for her over Kevin I can get but your reasoning should make sense.
[ chamrcasters arc is a whole other train wreck so won't be going into that ]
So teaming up with Kevin being a never isn't in the picture, atleast not for me.
Tumblr media
Also why wouldn't Gwen like him? He's good looking , he's got charm , he's smart, and got that boy thing going.
She's still a teenage girl, crushes happen.
Though I will agree leaning into him and the whole "ill follow you anywhere moment " was too much too soon, but Gwevin being a possibility isn't so far fetched as some people claim.
I read a post on tumblr a while back and someone mentioned that even the rushing made a little sense. Because what they said was that Gwen and Kevin had a crush on each other and the reason they got together so quickly was because of it. They weren't expecting to actually fall in love with each other, however once they got together the casual-ness of the relationship became more serious.
Okay, starting things off with a cornucopia! Which so many people ran from...
Maurice, Sydney, Frightwig, Thumbscrew, Phil, Xingo, Ben, Kevin, and La Moron all fled the scene without bothering to try to grab anything.
Smythe breaks Tim’s nose over some bread, while Acidbreath and FD fight over a bag, only for the Dipshit to flee the scene. Smart move, I was on Acidbreath’s side there.
Max grabs himself a sickle, and Animo some water. Zombozo, Chamrcaster, Gwen, and Nanny Nightmare divide the things they’ve grabbed amongst themselves before running off, and Solar decides to stay nearby to gather up whatever may be left when all is done.
Billy takes the first kill, to the surprise of no one, by taking out Polar with an ax! Then Vilgax decides to even the numbers by putting a knife through Hex’s skull!
Polar and Hex have not survived the first five minutes!
