okay for the 4 people who care about this crossover, here's the yj muses thrown into a tvdu world. this will probably also serve as the generic supernatural verse (well, supernatural beyond whatever woo woo shit is going on in canon).

lottie matthews - french quarter witch whose greatest strength/power lies in the gift of prophecy and visions. these are rarely straightforward or easy to interpret and she's gotten it wrong more than she's gotten it right. however, she thinks they were given to her for a reason and believes in trying to use it to help others, even if she stumbles a bit along the way.

van palmer - untriggered werewolf who was attacked by another pack when she was 17, which left her with facial scars and a deep, yet irrational fear of her own wolf. she knows it's likely only a matter of time before she triggers the curse and is trying to grapple with the reality that she can never escape the thing she fears most.

taissa turner - vampire who was turned in the 60s, at the height of the civil rights era. taissa is old enough to understand the patterns of history repeating itself, but still young enough that she is caught in her own hubris of trying to enjoy all the perks of immortality without any of the consequences.

shauna shipman - werewolf who triggered her curse at 18 and never looked back at the sleepy suburban life she left behind. the wolf brought a lot of clarity to shauna, who never understood where the depths of her temper and rage would stem from, and she finds herself discovering a new way of life by embracing the wolf.

natalie scatorccio - vampire turned in 1996 when a night of partying turned into an overdose with vampire blood in her system. nat is still very young when it comes to being a vampire, and she has a tendency to overindulge in feeding. not to the level of a ripper status, but enough that she can cause a few heads to turn if she's not careful about covering her tracks.

Look, of course she has a favorite customer. There are a couple regulars that she likes, but the tall brunette influencer has to be her favorite. Lottie Matthews — yeah, she followed her on Instagram when she found out who exactly she was from gossip-hungry Ben, so what? — is about as rich and privileged as most of their customer base tends to be, but she’s also insanely attractive, and nice, and will scrunch her nose up all cute whenever she asks Nat which of the baked goods she should try today, as if they don’t sell the same stuff day in and out.

Unlike the other rich assholes that come here, Lottie never treats Nat like shit, never asks her if their oat milk is organic and cruelty-free, and doesn’t expect her to remember her coffee order, even though she totally does.

OR: Nat's only working at the bakery to supplement her income as an up-and-coming photographer. Lottie is gorgeous, famous and infuriatingly down to earth, and kind of every photographer's wet dream, so of course Nat is obsessed with her.

Natalie extracts a sharp switchblade from the deep recesses of her worn out Levi’s. After hitting the pressure point and flinging open the sheath of the glinting knife, Natalie takes the apple from Lottie’s outstretched hand and begins to slice into it bit by bit. Her legs are bent vertically and her arms rest casually against her kneecaps as she does so, staring out into the open maw of the Earth while handing Lottie pieces of cut fruit. 

Lottie sits beside her against the blowing grass and accepts the offerings with a polite thank you each time, the whites of her canines digging into the soft flesh of the apple. A bit of juice lingers at the corner of her mouth and Natalie forces herself to look elsewhere, nearly prying her eyes away from the scene. 

As Lottie eats, a soft humming in her throat and the delicious bite of teeth into fruit, Natalie finds that she’s suddenly no longer hungry. Her belly is too full with something she was never really ready to eat in the first place, so she stands and offers her share to Leonard, who takes it happily. 

Lottie watches with a halfway saddened expression as Natalie forgoes the temptation of fruit and instead delivers it to the black beast standing in front of them, but Natalie pays no mind to it. Instead, Natalie wipes the stickiness from her palm and lingers around Leonard expectantly, telling Lottie they should get moving again.

i think the above would be especially funny/complex/tragic with misty, who probably has all of khalida's info when she kept tabs on everyone else too. misty being someone who knows what khalida will always want to know: what really happened to akilah. and misty knowing she'll never tell the truth but enjoying the power that simply having that knowledge gives her. is that fucked up? maybe, but is it anything more fucked up than what the show has already shown? not really

i'm only allowing you to ask such a thought-provoking question because it's your birthday and i love you

khalida - hakeem picks up soccer when he's 7 or 8 and finds one of akilah's old soccer balls in the garage. he falls in love with the sport and khalida is wholly convinced that it's akilah guiding him. she always tells him stories about his aunt who loved him so much and ensures that he knows that his love of the sport came from akilah

lottie - while in switzerland and as part of her therapy, lottie sends letters to all of the survivors (at least to their high school addresses) in which she apologizes for her actions in the wilderness. the letters are still pretty cryptic and vague, partially because they can't openly talk about it in case someone else reads it, and partially because the ect has fucked with a lot of her memory. but anyone reading the letter would know that lottie is accepting that she did / led the others down a terrible path and trying to atone for it

van - most of van's clothes at the time of the crash are hand-me-downs from the family that lived in the trailer next door. they were a family of four boys, one older than van, and the rest younger, and sometimes she would go over to help look after the younger ones in exchange for a hot meal while her mom worked late. the mom was always apologetic that she couldn't get van something "prettier" but van honestly preferred it this way. they moved away the summer before the crash and she has no idea where any of them are now

shauna - every morning when she wakes up, shauna keeps her eyes closed for half an extra second, hoping that she will open her eyes in the cabin with another chance to save jackie before she dies, and every morning she is disappointed

tai - tai has two older half-siblings from her dad's first marriage. they're 9 and 12 years older than her, whiter than snow, and lived in massachusetts for most of her childhood so she never really got to know them before the crash, and tai never felt like reaching out after the crash. in her mind, she's basically an only child, and views them sort of like distant cousins that she might see at a family reunion

nat - with the help of her banker friend, nat set up an account in tai's name where she's squirreled away money here and there over the years. only tai has the ability to withdraw the money from the account (done so in this manner so natalie couldn't try and funnel the funds when she inevitably fell off the wagon again). there's not a lot of money in it, not nearly enough to cover all of the money tai has spent on her rehab, but there's a couple thousand dollars that nat's scraped together over the years that she didn't blow on drugs or booze

simone - simone prides herself in not "pushing" tai to talk about the wilderness, but the truth is, she doesn't want to know what happened out there. she is perfectly happy with the image that tai has crafted, and is all too willing to accept the facade, even though she knows she should probably question it a bit more. she tells herself she's just doing the right thing as tai's partner, but part of the attraction was that is was another interesting, but closed chapter of tai's life

"So that's Walter, huh?" she drawls, an emphasis on the name of the man she had watched embrace Misty. He even looks like a nerd, but she doesn't point that out. Some things are too obvious to bother with. "What's he doing here, Misty? What happened to keeping this all between us?" There is a slight accusation in her tone, but when it comes to Misty, she can never be too careful. "Pretty convenient for your knight in shining armor to come around with a perfect solution, well except for, you know," she smirks, gesturing to herself.

A low blow? Maybe, but they were Nat's specialty. Observing just enough to be able to slip a knife through a person's ribs to watch them squirm. If they hate her then it means they can't love her, and if they can't love her, then it won't be devastating when they push her away. "What else did you tell him?"

It's been been months since she last heard about Nat, stumbling through life and through the second chance they'd all been given with the help of drugs and booze and sex. It made Shauna furious, even though that anger is definitely misplaced, a dissatisfaction about her own life poking through. Nat doesn't deserve her vitriol or jealousy, but Shauna has lost sympathy for her and anyone else (herself included). "But you don't see me dragging everyone I touch down with me."

Spoilers for the YJ S2 finale under the cut

As I've mentioned to a few people, I will not be having a "survival au" for Nat after what happens in the show. While there are probably ways to write around what happened, I choose not to do that for personal reasons. That said, I will have a ghost au for Natalie for interactions that take place after the S2 finale. I'm not going to get too much into how she's a ghost and why, but rather treat her like the hallucinations we see of Jackie at the beginning of S2, more like an omniscient narrator who is aware that she's dead and merely a figment of the other person's imagination. This is largely an experimental style of writing for me, so it might take me a hot second to figure out how exactly I want to play this out.

If you want ghost Nat, you must request her, otherwise I'll default to the 96 timeline or pre-2021. I will be selective with this verse and it's currently only open to canon YJ characters or characters with YJ verses who I've plotted with.

Again, this is not supposed to be a perfectly IC portrayal of Natalie, but my goal/hope is to write a version of Natalie that the specific person would envision. This will definitely carry traits of Natalie's character as a whole, but for instance, what this version will look like to Misty is probably different from how she would appear to Tai. She can also take the appearance of either teen or adult Nat, depending on the situation.

Like I said, this is very experimental and I'm not sure it'll pan out the way that I'm seeing it in my head but I figured it would be an interesting exercise to try and flex some different creative muscles.

Lottie is hot, and single and clearly a very sexual person or whatever, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a healthy sex life. Nat’d probably sleep around more, too, if she wasn’t so busy with soccer and school and too awkward to meet new people all the time. (Fine, okay, so maybe it’s mostly that last one…)

“Well, it’s a good thing I’m not sleeping with her then.”

“But you want to,” Van tries, must find whatever confirmation she’s looking for on her face because she breaks into a grin. “Oh God, you totally want to.”
