Another successful project! A previous owner of this Canon 7sZ replaced the mask around the rangefinder (or had it replaced) with what looks like some 120 backing paper, but failed to correctly place it. This blocked a fair amount of the rangefinder patch which, along with poor meshing of the frameline selector and an unglued meter window, warranted a top plate removal. I wanted a sturdier material than paper for the mask, so I ended up using a soda can. After cutting it into sheets, I flattened them out by rolling them backwards, then used fine-grit sandpaper to rough up the surface for better paint adhesion. I had to use a scan of the (7s) user manual to figure out the size and shape of the hole so I think my dimensions are a little off, but it's still better than before. Annoyingly though, I found an errant screw stuck to some old tape when I was putting it back together. I document every screw that I remove, so I know that it didn't come from me. It's clear that whoever worked on this Canon before me didn't have a great grasp on repair, I'm not even sure if the screw is from this camera really. But I'll shoot it till a problem arises where I need that screw!
