Thanks to our competition background, our latest +0 basepad has many subtle features baked in. The "nose" of the basepad is short (making it easier to handle when reloading and less prone to snagging), the basepad itself is thicker (for positive seating), the shoulders are taller (preventing overpenetration in the widely-flared Mete and Rival frame), and traction-enhancing patterns cover almost every surface. The row of dots on the bottom is used to identify your magazines (1-5), so you can easily keep track of which one is which.

Even the "rip strip" gets cut with a true 90-degree cutter. Doing that creates a sharp corner -- giving you maximum traction from a relatively shallow, low-profile cut.

Custom Canik Rival 

A short time ago, my wife and I attended the IV8888 shoot down in Georgia. One of the vendor booths set up was Century Arms. Of course they had a nice selection of Canik pistols among other firearms they either manufacture or import. My wife at the time was only a few weeks past major shoulder surgery on her left arm. She is right handed, so at least she still had use of her good arm. She is also a huge Canik fan. She’s owned a TP9SF pistol in FDE for quite a few years now. I wanted to see her reaction on the Canik Rival pistol since it ws their newest model and had quite a number of physical as well as appearance changes when compared to her TP9SF. She was shooting everything that day one handed and when she took some shots with the new Canik Rival, she was hitting a steel plate half way across the range with very little ease. 

After that event was over and with a very special birthday coming up in December, I saw an opportunity to do something special for her. I went over to Brownells and they happened to have Canik Rival pistols in black, in stock. I quickly ordered one up to my local FFL. Upon picking it up, I marveled at it’s beauty, but wanted it to be extra special for her. My wife’s favorite color is purple, but a solid purple pistol might be too much. I reached out to a company, fairly local to me, Weapon Works. I contracted them to do a black Multicam cerekote pattern with some purple accents added in. They quoted me 8 weeks to complete the project. About 4-5 week after I dropped it off, they were finished. Wow, what a quick turn around. M wife’s birthday was still 4-5 weeks away. So I took some really nice photos and put together a before/after video for my YouTube channel, then tucked it away until the big day.

Finally the day had come…it had been so hard keeping this pistol under wraps for such a long amount of time. I wrapped the pistol up in some foam, then placed it into the case. Put the case into a box and gift wrapped it. When she went to open the box, she saw that it was a pistol case and undoubtedly saw the Canik logo on the box. Once she pulled the foam off of the pistol…her first response was priceless… “Oh sh**” she exclaimed when she first put her eyes onto her new pistol. She was so surprised at what it looked like. I told her it was a one of a kind…no 2 Canik Rival pistols have that particular finish on it. I’m hoping that this doesn’t deter her from enjoying it and shooting it at the range. She is a very good shot…much better than I am at shooting handguns. 

A huge thanks to my good friends over at Brownells… always great selection of parts, accessories and firearms like this Canik Rival. Hats off to the folks over at Weapon Works as well…I’m looking forward to having them do some more work for me in the future. Canik Rival Long Term Review

It’s been well past a year since I picked up the Canik Rival pistol from Brownells. The wife and I got a chance to shoot it at the IV8888 range day a couple of years ago. She’s a huge Canik fan and has another Canik pistol as well. Canik has done a great job at making a name for themselves across the board, whether it be for defensive roles, range days or competition…Canik has you covered. The Rival pistol at the time was one of their newest offerings designed more along the lines of a competition pistol. It’s a tad bit on the larger size to be a good concealed carry pistol, even though it could be used for that purpose of course. When I picked up the new Canik Rival from Brownells, I wanted to do something extra special for my wife and surprise her. Knowing her favorite color was purple, I decided to take her new Canik Rival over to the good people at Weaponworks for a full cerekote treatment with a purple multicam cerekote finish. Weaponworks knocked it out of the park as they usually do and my wife was shocked at how nice it turned out.

The Canik Rival comes with a nice kit with different base pads for the magazines and of coursed holster to get you started. They’re one of the only companies that includes a usable holster with most of their pistols. They’re not the best, but they’ll do the job. The Canik Rival is also setup for an optic. The packagae includes all of the popular pistol optic plates that one might need to install their favorite pistol optic. The iron sights are a fiber optic style high visibility style of iron sights that are very easy to pick up when shooting fast. About a year after getting the pistol and spending some time with the iron sights, it was time to take the plunge and install a pistol optic on the Canik Rival. Once again we saw a product at the IV8888 range day from the good folks at Gideon optics. Gideon is a new company on the market coming out with affordable but quality pistol and rifle optics. We decided to install their Alpha green circle dot optic on the Canik and it’s turned out to be a perfect fit and looks like it was made for this pistol.

Have put quite a few rounds down range with the Canik Rival pistol and truly have nothing negative to say about it. The grip contour is very ergonomic and tend to fit mine and my wife’s hands very well. It’s such an easy pistol to shoot and shoot very well. The wife especially loves shooting steel plates with it and the Alpha optic from Gideon sure makes it easy to transition between different targets set up down range. I would guesstimate somewhere past 1k rounds have been spent through the Canik Rival and it’s ran everything without a flinch. So would I recommend the Canik Rival? I think everyone knows the answer to that question and the answer is a definitive yes!
