Menorca - Day 7
Well that went quick! Our final day and having exhausted ourselves in the previous 6 days we just walked 150m to the beach at Cala Galdana and basically stayed there all day. I can’t understand why anyone would want to go anywhere else. Several bars and cafes adjacent to the beach, very safe horseshoe bay for swimming etc. and even pedalos for hire!
We even managed some snorkelling- still not perfect conditions but much better than last time and we did actually see some fish - even though they were the usual silver coloured Mediterranean ones.
We even spent our last 20 Euros on sun beds and a sun shade for the day - money well spent as another scorcher!
Back to Exeter on 10:15am flight tomorrow so should be home by lunchtime! How our Aussie relatives would love that!

With the Balearic Islands come thoughts of beaches and sand, fine weather and a serene environment. This is exactly what draws tourists here by the millions every year. The Balearic Islands are part of Spain's Mediterranean chain of islands on its eastern shore.
Location
Four distinct and major islands make up Balearic islands, namely Mallorca, Ibiza, Fomentera and Menorca. Each of these major islands has its unique characteristics with Mallorca being the biggest and most renowned for its partying atmosphere. Although there are plenty of crowds at Palma Bay's trendy bars, discos and restaurants, Mallorca also offers spectacular natural landscapes like awesome mountains and beautiful coves. Its capital, Palma, is considered a real Balearic city that attracts the crowds.
Ibiza comes in next as the big tourist spot for partying that every European club member seems to head towards in the summer. The main spot during the day is the beach while dances and music fill the night from the many bars and discotheques vying for the tourist dollar.Formentara is quite a contrast to the others since it is quiet and relaxing, posing a haven for peace-seeking tourists and painters who would like some serenity and nude sunbathing around the rosemary bushes and the bright green ever-present iguanas.
Menorca is always breezy and secluded, splattered with historical stone architectures aimed at tourists who want peace and quiet at the beaches. The capital of Menorca is Mahon which is famous for its mayonnaise, as it was here that 'mahonesa' was created.
Natural Attractions
It is confirmed that some of Spain's best beaches are right here at the Balearic Islands, with the astounding Menorca Island offering beautiful beaches with natural and intriguing coves such as the Cala de Algaiarens. There are many 'calas' around Menorca and it is an adventure to go 'Cala hopping', taking a dip at each cove as one goes full circle on the island as most are accessible only by sea. Many may not even be noticeable if not for the yachts and other small sea craft which are anchored around them that give away the coves' location.
Some of the calas that are worth hopping to are Calas Macarella, Es Talaier, Nporter, Mitjaneta, Galdana and Pregonda. Besides the coves, many of the beaches on these islands have breath-taking stretches of coastline offering fine white sand against blue crystal-clear waters. Plus there is a suprising amount of vegetation here.
Spain offers countless possibilities and ferienhaus spanien chooses to holiday homes in all popular areas of ferienhauser pineda de mar, ferienhauser costa blanca - the most beautiful holiday destinations in Spain.

Menorca- Day 4
So grateful to wake to some light cloud cover and a bit of relief from the soaring temperatures of recent days. After lazy breakfast followed by coffee in the crazy golf park (sights set on a game soon!) we set off on a 2.5k trek to the next bay west - Cala Macarella. Breezier than we thought from the hotel as we saw boats struggle to get in and out of the Cala Galdana estuary. Got to Macarella but thought it wasn’t much of a trek, so decided to carry on to the next bay - Cala Macaraletta! This was real picture postcard stuff with beautiful inlet and turquoise sea leading to a sandy bay. Unfortunately, the strong breeze spoilt it a bit so after a few swims we headed back to Macarella for spot of lunch as there were good facilities there.
We’ve now realised that we’ve done all we really wanted to do without hiring a car, and we’re only at the half way point of our holiday, so can you imagine what we’re going to do for the remaining half of the holiday - exactly- we’re going to repeat what we’ve already done!!
Some good photos of today - couldn’t go wrong - and don’t be surprised though if next few days look rather familiar!
