I can tell you that the other day, I sat down and genuinely started working on Chapter 49.

I can also tell you it starts like this:

The bitch poured it into an actual teacup. Luc stared as she held the teapot with falsely dainty hands, as if he had not himself seen the deadly efficiency with which she wielded a blade. He looked down at the blood itself, smearing red against the rim of the teacup as it sloshed a little, settled in front of him.  Astrid Dane moved around to stand behind him, and her cool, marblelike hands with their black veins carved deeply within briefly rested on his shoulders. Then she pressed the palm of her hand against the side of his neck, her fingers taking his chin delicately between forefinger and thumb. “I will tip the cup to your lips,” She said, her voice rough with enjoyment. “And for each time you cannot swallow, I will cut her. If you do not finish the cup, I will kill her.” Alucard Emery kept his eyes on the window, on the smoke from the fires burning around London billowing like dark black stormclouds. As if any moment, it would rain, and sweep away this terrible day as if it had never happened.  Both monarchs dead by the Danes’ hands, Rhy forced into marriage to a monster, and Kell bringing the Sanctuary down himself, eyes red-rimmed and miserable, with Holland Vosijk's mouth at his ear whispering poisonous commands to burn London to the ground.

                holland, as a rule, sleeps mostly when he’s too exhausted to remain awake, and not always for very long at once.  as far as he can tell, it’s been that way most of his life ; he’s either working, or just awake.  of course, the increase of vivid nightmares that come with remembering a past life ( and memories of what could happen every time he let his guard down enough to sleep ) don’t help any.

the upshot of this is that waking up somewhere distinctly not his bed isn’t particularly surprising.  one hand is still loosely curled around an open book, & it’s just LIGHT enough to see the familiar outline of the living room.  he was dreaming, but not badly, and maybe that’s why he’s less quick to move away when he wakes, this time, to someone dropping into the space next to him.  tenses anyway, on reflex, but doesn’t move. 

or maybe –– if he thinks about it, and holland isn’t prone to dwelling on such things –– it’s the space between them, the way vor sits with easy grace and waits, not in a way holland is used to waiting.  neither a test nor a demand, so unlike the way athos would wait, having given an order, and KNOW holland had not the freedom to refuse him.  

there was a life where the space between dreaming and waking didn’t exist ; no safety to linger there.  this is not that life, and it’s as close to unguarded as holland ever comes, somehow alert yet still on the edge of half-asleep.  ‘ are you waiting for a written invitation? ’ he asks, dry tone laced with faintest amusement. 

it’s not a LONG kiss, hardly even a kiss at all, barely-awake and barely-there.  holland lets himself lean into it anyway, holds onto the closeness only for a second.  / @oflegendaries​

Here’s Heavy Is The Head, an ADSOM Holland Vosijk playlist for all your bitter Antari needs! This playlist is long, but that’s because it’s specially formulated to have songs suited to different points in Holland’s life, and they appear in order so you can listen to specific events at your pleasure! So anon/anyone else looking, if you’ll indulge me, here’s a list of all the songs used, some with notes describing their place here;

First, general thoughts. I wanted this playlist to have plenty of dark ambient moments, but also several harsh and defiant ones, too; Holland is not as much of a sad character to me as he is angry, and a lot of his power and drive comes from a place of vengeance, wrath, and righteous justice. So, there’s a lot of rock, folk, and indie pop here. I tried to include all types of music to suit different tastes too, since I’m fairly diverse with my music choices. All that said-

Disclaimer: Some of these songs have profanity/swearing in them. As well, some of them have dark themes, undertones, and implications, so know that ahead of time. It’s a Holland playlist- I don’t feel like there’s anything here that’s darker than canon, but it’s still something any potential listeners should know. Consider this your warning.
