Oho! :3 Good catch anon. He’s been right there on the same wavelength as Deku (as we’ve always known~) With the extreme pain tolerance, the intense focus on the goal at the expense of his own self-preservation (Kacchan pls let Jeanist fix your mangled arm D:) and then he’s just as nerdy analytical towards his situation/opponent. Muttering while still in the ZONE. (He’s not ‘broken’ in spirit yet~) Amazing even Jeanist that he’s kept his head clear and composed in the game, willing to still participate and contribute for his team without giving up despite everything suffered. ;o;

Chapter 11

The Shaman Life

Summer vacation has just passed and Manta wasn't able to see Yoh during all of it. We see him again back at school with bruises and scars all over his body from "Anna special training program"

We see Yoh tired and cranky for all the hard work he has to do but he also mentioned how he wants to be worthy of Amidamaru, show us the reader how Ren's words and almost losing Amidamaru deeply affected him. He then explains to Manta how Anna forced him to train and study all summer long while Manta slyly mentions how impressed he is of her, since she was able to force Yoh to do all those things. Anna surprised both by being the new transferred student. Now we know this will be a new life Yoh needs to get used to, not only to protect his good friend but also to achieve his goal to be the Shaman King, for that he needs to be prepared for everything and Anna is here to make sure he is in tiptop shape for it.

Later we found Ren in what it used to be the burned building back in chapter 5. Making the building look abandoned and burned out to don't attract attention while he lives there, since he is now the owner of the place. Once again we found Ryu in search for his Best place with his gang after being chased out of the cemetery and the boxing ring, but they are quickly dispersed by Ren.

Enraged by his failure to get Amidamaru, he takes his frustrations out on Bason. Which his older sister scolded him for it, reminded him that is not a proper way to act. We are informed Ren is also the heir of a proud and powerful shaman family just like Yoh, and who wants to help him win the position of King, which Ren declined saying he will want to win this for his own sake and not for the family, showing us once again how Ren is not great as a team even with his family.

Then, It's finally revealed what's inside the ominous black box in the middle of the room, a very strong looking corpse called Lee Bailong, controlled by Jun herself, she is a Dao-shi a "Corpse herder", I particularly love how many more types of shamans and spirits we are shown, telling us there is not one way to be a shaman.

Random Trivia!

-Did you notice the Butsu Zone looking characters entering the school? You can see Jizo, Senju, Anna, Sachi, Bato and Ashura (the last two I'm not so sure) -We can see a little Takei on the cover of the chapter -Anna is from Shimokita, Aomori prefecture, this is a peninsula district, up north of the country. This in reference to Hiroyuki Takei himself since he is from Yomigita, Aomori. -Ryu's gang are homeless, that's why Ryu always make comments about housing in Tokyo, a place where is very hard to find a place to stay if you don't have enough money to pay rent several months in advance. -This is the second time Ryu gets his hair chop off -Tao Ren and Bason names in mandarin are Dao Lian and Ma-Sun

Shaman King, Lo bueno, lo malo y lo feo. (Sin Spoilers)

Buen día estimado lector, me permiti dedicar mis espacios en esta web para hablar de anime, manga, o peliculas; y decidi empezar con series que conozco muy bien y dar pros, contras y conclusio es; la cita de hoy es con nada mas y nada menos que  Shaman King (シャーマンキング, en romanji Shāman Kingu),d creada por el maestro Hiroyuki Takei, en el año 1998 el primer capitulo de manga fue publicado a traves de la revista Shūkan Shōnen Jump por la editorial Sueisha, para ser cancelada luego de 6 años en el 2004 quedando inconclusa; por alli del año 2000, se realizo una sere de anime dirijida por Seiji Mizushima , por parte de los estudios de TV Tokyo, Nihon Ad Systems y XEBEC  , que despues de 64 episodios concluyo igualmente inconclusa; cinco años depues de su primera tirada, ya en 2009, se comenzó con la publicación de una reedición del manga titulada Shaman King Kang Zeng Bang, la cual abarca 300 capítulos recopilados en 27 tomos incluyendo el tan esperado final oficial, concluyendo en octubre del mismo año, y ese mismo noviembre, Takei comenzo a trabajar en una secuela de Shaman King, llamada Shaman King Flowers: Hana's Epoch, aunque de la secuela no hablaremos en esta ocasión. Tiempo despues, aunque no recuerdo el año, una serie de capitulos especiales titulados “Shaman King Zero” fue publicado a modo de precuela, y tambien para llenar alguno que otro hueco argumental.

La serie sigue principalmente a Yoh Azakura un joven shaman que desea convertirse en Shaman King (practicamente dios), desde su primer encuentro con Manta Oyamada, quien se convertiría en su primer amigo fuera del mundo de los Shamanes y también en un gran apoyo moral durante toda la aventura. Así bien Yoh junto a una gran variedad de otros shamanes tendran que pasar toda clase pruebas, conbates y retos para que al final solo uno se convierta en el Rey Shaman; a esto hay que sumarle a Hao, el antagonista de la serie y su grupo radical, quienes han decidido apoyarlo para llegar a la victoria y asi pueda destruir a la humanidad, pues este la considera depravada y destructiva.

ahora que estamos en contexto, comencemos;

LO BUENO:

Esta de mas decir que lo mejor de Shaman king son sus personajes, se trata de una serie con una temática clara y personajes bien definidos tanto en diseño como en personalidad, es rico en historias y no se sienten para nada forzadas, se entrelazan para crear dinámicas sumamente relevantes; desde el protagonista cuyo objetivo parece vano hasta que nos dan una mirada a su pasado, hasta el antagonista trágico, que posee un carácter que su triste pasado  ha definido, y el lector puede entender y empatizar.

Otro punto destacable son las peleas en general, con alguna que otra excepción la serie tiene peleas brillantes, el autor se dedico a investigar muy bien hacerca de distintas cultiras y que papel tiene la “muerte” en ellas, asi que tenemos toda clase de shamanes de distintas religiones muy bien adaptados (quizás a los mexicanos les hizo falta un poco, pero en general todo bien), se agradece que no existan “powers ups” salidos de la nada; muchos shounen pecan de ello, este no es así, el fortalecimiento de los personajes se da o por entrenamiento fisico o espiritual, nada más.

Dentro de lo bueno no puede quedar fuera el humor, así es, tenemos una serie rica en drama y accion, pero con humor que se siente muy al estilo de  Nobuhiro Watsuki (autor de Samurai X) o Eiichiro Oda (autor de One Piece), es entendible pues el maestro Takei, junto a Oda, trabajaron como asistentes del maestro Watsuki, ya sea porque sus personalidades son compatibles o porque tanto tiempo de colaboracion les pego algo, su dibujo y ambientación es sumamente parecida (pueden notarlo al ver Butsu Zone otra obra de Takei y compararla con One Piece o los primero tomos de Samurai X).

Y lo mejor de lo mejor, la historia, fluida (al menos en el manga), original, entretenida, con una premisa simple pero potente, que te mantiene leyendo o viendo para el caso del anime, la aventura hasta su final.

LO MALO:

Fue  dificil encontrar lo malo, pero creo que seria algo mas así como “lo regular”, me parece que existen alguno huecos (razonables) en la historia, y es entendible cuando se trata de obras que se planean de una manera y al final van contruyendose y ampliándose tanto que salen un poco de las manos de algunas ideas iniciales; un pequeño ejemplo es la reaccion de “Kororo” cuando ve por primera vez a “Manta”, si bien es un elemento comico muy efectivo, no tiene mucho sentido una vez su pasado es revelado.

Y si hay algo que podemos decir que fue malo, fue haber dejado su primera publicacion inconclusa, por fortuna ya tenemos un final, pero en su momento, habia muy pocas esperanzas de verlo y leerlo algun dia; también debemos a eso que el anime haya ido mal para su segunda mitad, por que si hay algo feo de Shaman King fue su adaptación al anime, pero no por el diseño, reparto o producción, sino por que al haber alcanzado al manga se no tuvo otra opción más que crear una cantidad de episodios de relleno masiva, cambiar la trama a la mitad de la serie y omitir el pasado de prácticamente la mitad de los personajes, crear personajes de relleno o darle tiempo al aire a otros que fueron intrascendentes; no significa que no se pueda disfrutar del anime, pero el final termino siendo bastante ambiguo , y de jo a la gran mayoría inconformes.

LO FEO:

Lo mas feo, fue el final apresurado, ya hablamos del anime (lo cual es compresible) pero el del manga tambien lo fue, si bien es un final concluyente (y por ello me sorprendio Shaman king Flowers la secuela), se sigue sintiendo que faltaron paginas, es decir, después de combates tan epicos y de mas de dos o tres capitulos de manga, el combate contra Hao fue corto, el mismo editor del manga “Ka Zeng Bang” lo se lo dijo a Takei, y aunque este ultimo solicito mas paginas para remediarlo, fue imposible para la casa editora cumplir su peticion, lo cual nos parece una trajedia, y repito , el final es un buen final, pero no cumple con lo que shaman King tiene para ofrecer.

CONCLUSIONES

No por nada Shaman King se ha vuelto un clasico del anime y manga de los 90s, eso aplica tanto para japon como para el resto del mundo, si bien no es perfecta la verdad es que vale mucho la pena verla, pues una serie que ha envejecido muy bien y es muy disfrutable, en mexico el manga tuvo una distribucion a cargo de VID (corrijanme si  hubo o hay otras editoriales que lo traen) y adquirir la coleccion completa es un esfuerzo que vale la pena; si amas el shounen, la comedia y por que no?, el romance, shaman king es una serie que los amantes del manga y anime como tu no se pueden perder.

Quizas el final fue apresurado, pero aun asi fue concluyente, y esta muy bien logrado (en el manga quiero decir), asi que es una serie tan rica de momentos epicos que la hacen una serie sumamente recomendable, y tambien una de mis favoritas!
