I dont want to go to classssssss
I like todays professor a lot
But i dont have ANY motivation to get out of bed and go today
But its only the third week of the semester now i cant keep missing class
And as i say, i actually like the contents of the class and the teacher. I just dont like getting ready to go. Or taking the bus in the scorching heat of 2 PM. I also dont particularly like the people in my class all that much.

Edit thread story of the NDA helping take care of a fever stricken Yuma~ 🌡️
Tumblr media
“You’re such a handful… Come. Let’s head back to the agency for you to recuperate.”
Halara escorts a very dizzy Yuma back to base safely lending him their shoulder to lean on. Making sure no Peacekeepers can mess with them. The bright lights of the city aren’t helping his throbbing headache so his eyes remain shut. Halara also picked up the supplies needed from Kanai's shops. (spending their own money in the process no less) They’re still not used to touching Yuma yet so they feel a bit awkward. 💦
Tumblr media
“Yuma you’re burning up. And you’re shaking like a leaf. Go sit down and I’ll go and get you a blanket.”
Upon return and Halara’s explanation, Yakou walks over and checks Yuma’s temperature (with the back of his hand) He’s burning and shivering from the fever induced chills. He quickly ushers him to sit down on the sofa he sleeps on. Then he lets him borrow the blanket from his own bed to keep warm. 🧣
Tumblr media
"Yuma are you okay? Here, let's check your temperature..."
When Yuma sits down wrapped in Yakou's blanket gripping it tightly still shivering, Kurumi sits right beside him. Although Yakou already checked for a fever, she worries deeply for his state and insists on taking a device reading of his body temperature, using the thermometer Halara bought. When the device is inserted, it turns out to be about 39 degrees (102 degrees f) 🌡️🥵
Tumblr media
“Alright Yuma, here's your medicine. Open up, my man. Down the hatch.”
After Kurumi leaves temporarily, Desuhiko sits next to Yuma. He's told by Yakou to give him the liquid medicine that Halara bought earlier. It was a strong fever reducer. After some hesitation, he finally takes it. But it was very strong and bitter. He didn’t like it very much 💀💊
Tumblr media
“Here Yuma, I was told that warm soup is always the best if you don’t feel well! This should help to heal you!”
Fubuki cooks and feeds Yuma some nice hot soup from the ingredients that were bought. (Kurumi helps her make it) Even if he doesn’t finish it all, he still enjoys how warm it is with what little he does eat 🥣 It was warm enough to stop his body from shivering.
Tumblr media
“This fever is… persistent… What a pain… I wanna die someday…”
Vivia rests in the dark with Yuma after everyone works on cooling him off with ice water. (and ice) due to his fever suddenly spiking later in the night. (rising to nearly 103) So Vivia stays with him until he’s stable. They both end up falling asleep, and Vivia places his cool hand against Yuma’s warm hand. 🤝 They remain this way through the night.
Tumblr media
"Sheesh Master, you're so pathetic... Don't worry me like that again. I thought you were a goner for sure..."
Yuma wakes up the next morning with his fever finally broken. Shinigami lays beside him with her ghostly hand over him as if she was hugging him. She mutters something under her breath, and he hears every word. He smiles placing his hand to her form, even though he can't feel it. 👻
He couldn't have been more thankful to have such kind friends
Maybe even a family 💕
~
Yeah, I just wanted to make another edit scenario where the nocturnal found family agency takes care of their frail lil’ trainee needing some help 😷
A different scenario from what happened in my sickfic but similar enough 💕
I love this family so much 🥰 They are perfect.
(Quite happy with how these came out)

Love how the moment the temperature drops my ass immediately gets sick. Chronic cough, post nasal drip, stuffy nose, sniffles, and feverish. Temp was 102 F earlier (about 39 C). MIL is worried but P claims it’s higher than normal but not deadly. Not worried either way bc it feels like the common cold. Im keeping myself covered despite all the sweating. Which I hate bc it’s super uncomfortable but also makes me mad bc I just friggin cleaned the bedding a couple days ago. Augh.

OK here's something that makes me crack up laughing
Whenever I'm reading fics and a character gets ill and gets a temperature - I find their reactions really funny? Because at first they'll be like 'HE'S GOT A FEVER OF SOMETHING FAHRENHEIT' and I'll convert it to Celsius and be like 😐
Like I once read a fic and they were like 'His temperature is 101°' and they'll be a bit worried like oh stay home from school, have some bedrest like I have gone into school with temperatures up to 102° F, done my 7 and a half hour school day and then come home, and only then even realised I had a temperature like I'm going into school if it's under 39°F bcs I'll feel fine
And then just today I was reading a fic and they're like 'her temperature is really high if we can't lower it, things could be bad' or a character going to h o s p i t a l
And then I look what 103.5°F is in Celsius and it's 39.7°C... I've had higher. Several times. At least 3 times I've had higher and I've been in the 39s a lot. HOSPITAL? URGENT?
Maybe I'm just weird OR fic people overreact because I've had a temperature of 41°C (105.8°F) before and I had some medicine and went to bed, if I did go to a doctor it would be a local GP just to clarify that I needed specific medicine and then I took it, put a wet flannel on my face, slept and was woozy and gross for about 3 days...
And it wasn't an emergency I just find fics so weird when this happens like often it won't be a high temperature and they'll all be really worried and I'd have maybe taken the day off school if it was high enough and just watched TV not PANICKED

Pneumonia
The lungs are made up of small sacs called alveoli, which fill with air when a healthy person breathes. Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that may be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. The infection causes the alveoli to become inflamed and fill up with fluid or pus. That can make it hard for the oxygen you breathe in to get into your bloodstream. The symptoms of pneumonia can range from mild to severe, and include cough, fever, chills, and trouble breathing.
Many factors affect how serious a case of pneumonia is, such as the type of germ causing the lung infection, the person’s age, and their overall health. The people most at risk are infants and young children, adults 65 or older, and people who have other health problems. Pneumonia is a leading cause of hospitalization in both children and adults. Most cases can be treated successfully, although it can take weeks to fully recover. Tens of thousands of people in the U.S. die from pneumonia every year, most of them adults over the age of 65. And is the single largest infectious cause of death in children worldwide. Pneumonia killed 808 694 children under the age of 5 in 2017, accounting for 15% of all deaths of children under five years old. Pneumonia affects children and families everywhere, but is most prevalent in South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Children can be protected from pneumonia, it can be prevented with simple interventions, and treated with low-cost, low-tech medication and care.
Causes:
Many germs can cause pneumonia. The most common are bacteria and viruses in the air we breathe. Your body usually prevents these germs from infecting your lungs. But sometimes these germs can overpower your immune system, even if your health is generally good. Most germs that cause pneumonia are contagious. This means they can spread from person to person. Pneumonia is classified according to the types of germs that cause it and where you got the infection.
Both viral and bacterial pneumonia can spread to others through inhalation of airborne droplets from a sneeze or cough. You can also get these types of pneumonia by coming into contact with surfaces or objects that are contaminated with pneumonia-causing bacteria or viruses.
 Community-acquired pneumonia
The most common type of pneumonia. It occurs outside of hospitals or other health care facilities. It may be caused by:
Bacteria. The most common cause of bacterial pneumonia in the U.S. is Streptococcus pneumonia. Other type of bacteria that cause pneumonia can be Mycoplasma pneumonia, Haemophilus influenza, Staphylococcus aureus, Legionella pneumophila and Viral pneumonia. This type of pneumonia can occur on its own or after you've had a cold or the flu. It may affect one part (lobe) of the lung, a condition called lobar pneumonia.
Bacteria-like organisms. Mycoplasma pneumoniae also can cause pneumonia. It typically produces milder symptoms than do other types of pneumonia. Walking pneumonia is an informal name given to this type of pneumonia, which typically isn't severe enough to require bed rest.
Fungi. This type of pneumonia is most common in people with chronic health problems or weakened immune systems, and in people who have inhaled large doses of the organisms. The fungi that cause it can be found in soil or bird droppings and vary depending upon geographic location. Some of them being Pneumocystis jirovecii, Cryptococcus species, Coccidioidomycosis, Histoplasmosis, Cryptococcus, and Histoplasmosis species. However, it doesn’t spread from person to person. (in infants infected with HIV, Pneumocystis jiroveci is one of the most common causes of pneumonia, responsible for at least one quarter of all pneumonia deaths in HIV-infected infants.)
Viruses. Some of the viruses that cause colds and the flu can cause pneumonia. Most commonly caused by the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and sometimes influenza type A or B. Viruses are the most common cause of pneumonia in children younger than 5 years. Viral pneumonia is usually mild. But in some cases it can become very serious.
Hospital-acquired pneumonia
Some people catch pneumonia during a hospital stay for another illness. Hospital-acquired pneumonia can be serious because the bacteria causing it may be more resistant to antibiotics and because the people who get it are already sick. People who are on breathing machines (ventilators), often used in intensive care units, are particularly at risk of developing ventilator-associated pneumonia
 Health care-acquired pneumonia
Health care-acquired pneumonia is a bacterial infection that occurs in people who live in long-term care facilities or who receive care in outpatient clinics, including kidney dialysis centers. Like hospital-acquired pneumonia, health care-acquired pneumonia can be caused by bacteria that are more resistant to antibiotics.
Aspiration pneumonia
Aspiration pneumonia occurs when you inhale vomit, a foreign object, such as a peanut, or a harmful substance, such as smoke or a chemical into your lungs. Aspiration is more likely if something disturbs your normal gag reflex, such as a brain injury or swallowing problem, or excessive use of alcohol or drugs.
Some types of bacteria cause what is known as "atypical" pneumonia, including:
Mycoplasma pneumoniae, a tiny wide-spread bacterium that usually infects people younger than 40 years old, especially those living and working in crowded conditions. The illness is often mild enough to go undetected and is sometimes referred to as walking pneumonia.
Chlamydophila pneumoniae, which commonly causes upper respiratory infections year-round, but can also result in a mild form of pneumonia.
Legionella pneumophila, which causes a dangerous form of pneumonia called Legionnaire's disease. Unlike other bacterial pneumonias, Legionella is not passed from person to person. Outbreaks of the disease have been linked to exposure to contaminated water from cooling towers, whirlpool spas, and outdoor fountains.
These bacteria are referred to as "atypical" because pneumonia caused by these organisms might have slightly different symptoms, appear different on a chest X-ray, or respond to different antibiotics than the typical bacteria that cause pneumonia. Even though these infections are called "atypical," they are not uncommon.
Symptoms:
The signs and symptoms of pneumonia vary from mild to severe, depending on factors such as the type of germ causing the infection, and your age and overall health. Mild signs and symptoms often are similar to those of a cold or flu, but they last longer.
Signs and symptoms of pneumonia may include:
Sharp or stabbing chest pain that gets worse when you breathe deeply or cough
Confusion or changes in mental awareness (in adults age 65 and older)
cough – which may be dry, or produce thick yellow, green, brown or blood-stained mucus (phlegm)
difficulty breathing – your breathing may be rapid and shallow, and you may feel breathless, even when resting
Fatigue
feeling generally unwell
Fever, sweating and shaking chills
loss of appetite
Lower than normal body temperature (in adults older than age 65 and people with weak immune systems)
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
rapid heartbeat
Shortness of breath
Less common symptoms include:
coughing up blood (haemoptysis)
headaches
fatigue
feeling sick or being sick
 wheezing
joint and muscle pain
feeling confused and disorientated, particularly in elderly people
Newborns and infants may not show any sign of the infection. Or they may vomit, have a fever and cough, appear restless or tired and without energy, or have difficulty breathing and eating.
When to see a doctor
See your doctor if you have difficulty breathing, chest pain, persistent fever of 102 F (39 C) or higher, or persistent cough, especially if you're coughing up pus. It's especially important that people in these high-risk groups see a doctor:
Adults older than age 65
Children younger than age 2 with signs and symptoms
People with an underlying health condition or weakened immune system
People receiving chemotherapy or taking medication that suppresses the immune system
For some older adults and people with heart failure or chronic lung problems, pneumonia can quickly become a life-threatening condition.
Diagnosis:
Pneumonia can be difficult to diagnose because it shares many symptoms with other conditions, such as the common cold, bronchitis and asthma. To diagnose pneumonia, and to try to identify the germ that is causing the illness, your doctor will ask questions about your medical history, do a physical exam, and run some tests.
Medical history
Your doctor will ask you questions about your signs and symptoms, and how and when they began. To help figure out if your infection is caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi, you may be asked some questions about possible exposures, such as:
Any recent travel
Your occupation
Contact with animals
Exposure to other sick people at home, work or school
Whether you have recently had another illness
Physical exam
Your doctor will listen to your lungs with a stethoscope. If you have pneumonia, your lungs may make crackling, bubbling, and rumbling sounds when you inhale.
Diagnostic Tests
They’ll then give you a physical exam. This will include listening to your lungs with a stethoscope for any abnormal sounds, such as crackling. Depending on the severity of your symptoms and your risk for complications, your doctor may also order one or more of these tests
If your doctor suspects you may have pneumonia, they will probably recommend some tests to confirm the diagnosis and learn more about your infection. These may include:
Blood culture: This test uses a blood sample to confirm an infection. Culturing can also help identify what may be causing your condition.
Chest X-ray: An X-ray helps your doctor look for signs of inflammation in your chest. If inflammation is present, the X-ray can also inform your doctor about its location and extent.
Fluid sample: If your doctor suspects there’s fluid in the pleural space of your chest, they may take a fluid sample using a needle placed between your ribs. This test can help identify the cause of your infection.
Pulse oximetry: A pulse oximetry measures the amount of oxygen in your blood. A sensor placed on one of your fingers can indicate whether your lungs are moving enough oxygen through your bloodstream.
Sputum culture: During a sputum culture, a sample of mucus is collected after you’ve coughed deeply. It’s then sent to a lab to be analyzed to identify the cause of the infection.
If you are considered a high-risk patient because of your age and overall health, or if you are hospitalized, the doctors may want to do some additional tests, including:
CT scan of the chest to get a better view of the lungs and look for abscesses or other complications.
Arterial blood gas test, to measure the amount of oxygen in a blood sample taken from an artery, usually in your wrist. This is more accurate than the simpler pulse oximetry.
Pleural fluid culture, which removes a small amount of fluid from around tissues that surround the lung, to analyze and identify bacteria causing the pneumonia.
Bronchoscopy, a procedure used to look into the lungs' airways. If you are hospitalized and your treatment is not working well, doctors may want to see whether something else is affecting your airways, such as a blockage. They may also take fluid samples or a biopsy of lung tissue. Your doctor will start by taking your medical history. They’ll ask you questions about when your symptoms first appeared and your health in general.
Treatment:
Specific treatments depend on the type and severity of your pneumonia, your age and your overall health. The options include:
Antibiotics. These medicines are used to treat bacterial pneumonia. It may take time to identify the type of bacteria causing your pneumonia and to choose the best antibiotic to treat it. If your symptoms don't improve, your doctor may recommend a different antibiotic.
Cough medicine. This medicine may be used to calm your cough so that you can rest. Because coughing helps loosen and move fluid from your lungs, it's a good idea not to eliminate your cough completely. In addition, you should know that very few studies have looked at whether over-the-counter cough medicines lessen coughing caused by pneumonia. If you want to try a cough suppressant, use the lowest dose that helps you rest.
Fever reducers/pain relievers. You may take these as needed for fever and discomfort. These include drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) and acetaminophen (Tylenol, others).
Your doctor may prescribe a medication to help treat your pneumonia. What you’re prescribed will depend on the specific cause of your pneumonia.
Oral antibiotics can treat most cases of bacterial pneumonia. Always take your entire course of antibiotics, even if you begin to feel better. Not doing so can prevent the infection from clearing, and it may be harder to treat in the future.
Antibiotic medications don’t work on viruses. In some cases, your doctor may prescribe an antiviral. However, many cases of viral pneumonia clear on their own with at-home care.
Antifungal medications are used to fight fungal pneumonia. You may have to take this medication for several weeks to clear the infection.
Hospitalization
You may need to be hospitalized if:
You are older than age 65
You are confused about time, people or places
Your kidney function has declined
Your systolic blood pressure is below 90 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or your diastolic blood pressure is 60 mm Hg or below
Your breathing is rapid (30 breaths or more a minute)
You need breathing assistance
Your temperature is below normal
Your heart rate is below 50 or above 100
You may be admitted to the intensive care unit if you need to be placed on a breathing machine (ventilator) or if your symptoms are severe.
Children may be hospitalized if:
They are younger than age 2 months
They are lethargic or excessively sleepy
They have trouble breathing
They have low blood oxygen levels
They appear dehydrated
Hospital treatment may include:
intravenous antibiotics injected into a vein
respiratory therapy, which involves delivering specific medications directly into the lungs or teaching you to perform breathing exercises to maximize your oxygenation
oxygen therapy to maintain oxygen levels in your bloodstream (received through a nasal tube, face mask, or ventilator, depending on severity)
Mild pneumonia can usually be treated at home by:
getting plenty of rest
taking antibiotics
drinking plenty of fluids
Your doctor may also recommend over-the-counter (OTC) medication to relieve your pain and fever, as needed. These may include:
aspirin
ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
acetaminophen (Tylenol)
If you do not have any other health problems, you should respond well to treatment and soon recover, although your cough may last for some time. It's usually safe for someone with pneumonia to be around others, including family members. But people with a weakened immune system are less able to fight off infections, so it's best they avoid close contact with a person with pneumonia.
For at-risk groups, pneumonia can be severe and may need to be treated in hospital. This is because it can lead to serious complications, which in some cases can be fatal, depending on a person's health and age. Your treatment will depend on the type of pneumonia you have, how severe it is, and your general health.
Take any medications as prescribed by your doctor. If your pneumonia is caused by bacteria, you will be given an antibiotic. It is important to take all the antibiotic until it is gone, even though you will probably start to feel better in a couple of days. If you stop, you risk having the infection come back, and you increase the chances that the germs will be resistant to treatment in the future. Typical antibiotics do not work against viruses. If you have viral pneumonia, your doctor may prescribe an antiviral medication to treat it. Sometimes, though, symptom management and rest are all that is needed.

Emergency
I’ve discovered as a parent that what I view as an emergency is not always what others view as emergencies. Being late because my toddler woke up as I was waking out the door...not an emergency. Running out of milk, the only thing your Asperger son could ever imagine drinking for breakfast...not an emergency. Your absentminded daughter not telling you a project/test was due until 9:30 at night...not an emergency. But, when my baby is sick...I don’t care that he hasn’t severed a leg and isn’t bleeding, can we please forgo the formalities and get him into a room, with a doctor, Stat?!
With LRMC, it was going through a metal detector (Stephen was wanded). At All Chiildren’s, even though our doctor called ahead, it was waiting any amount of time (okay it wasn’t that long, but it felt like forever) in the waiting room with a tiny boy, who’s body felt like a iron tool fresh out of the fire. I just remember thinking how his skin was burning my skin, and that my cheeks were flush from his heat. When we did get called back, they kindly fussed at us for letting him have his blanket (its a security blanket for him, for sure) and took his temperature. 39°C. I had no idea what that translated too, but It had been around 102/103°F for days so that was not a shock, but then the questioning starts...What is he in for? How long has the fever lasted? What are his other symptoms? We answered those questions and others to at least 20 different doctors and nurses throughout the night.
Tumblr media
Please know that I’m not complaining. They were great at All Children’s, and we would certainly recommend that hospital and go back if we ever needed to. But remember that I have had no sleep the night before because we were at the ER in Lakeland, then that day I went to work and only caught maybe 30 minutes of Z’s in the clinic before grade verification's. So at this point, I’m just trying to keep it together so we can get this baby some help.
When we got back to an ER room and finally saw a doctor, we had the lab results from LRMC, but she wanted to run her own labs. They see a lot of Kawasaki patients at All Children's, so it’s not that she didn’t believe he was one, they just wanted to be sure before we really went through the admission process and treatment. So we prepared Shae for another IV port, this time on his right hand, instead of his left. Blood was drawn pretty quickly and the two nurses were great, even though Shae was not having it...he was just so done with everyone messing with him. Reassuring your child takes a lot out of you, especially when you are scared yourself and unsure of what will happen. He was a trooper though, but I fear that the trauma of that night and what would happen later will haunt him for a long time.
Just think about it. Your a carefree three-year-old, who’s afraid of heights and bugs, but the worst thing that has ever happened to you at this point is falling off the bed. Fast-forward to this ER, where everyone tells you it’s okay, but you feel like crap and everyone is jamming things in you...IV’s. catheters, heart monitors... I don’t know how he made it through.  By early morning, they finally admitted us and wheeled him to the 8th floor, where we were able to settle into a room, but the journey was far from over.

Heating up: Sharapova vs Kerber in 3rd round; Muguruza out
MELBOURNE, Australia /January 17, 2018 (AP)(STL.News) —  Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza struggled with the heat in an upset second-round loss to Hsieh Su-wei that left just three major winners in the Australian Open women’s draw on Day 4.
Two of them will meet in the third round.
With a forecast high of 39 Celsius (102 Fahrenheit), 2008 Australian Open winner Maria Sharapova hurried through the first set on Rod Laver Arena in 23 minutes before beating No. 14-seeded Anastasija Sevastova 6-1, 7-6 (4).
Temperatures hovered close to 40 Celsius (104 F) as 2016 champion Angelique Kerber set up a meeting with Sharapova with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Donna Vekic in a 70-minute afternoon match at Margaret Court Arena.
The crowd sang Happy Birthday and gave three hoorays to celebrate Kerber’s 30th birthday. It was her 11th win, including the Sydney International title last week.
“Happy to be playing tennis again like 2016,” said Kerber, who planned an ice bath before a relaxed dinner out in Melbourne to mark the occasion.
Sharapova, who missed last year’s Australian Open while serving a 15-month ban for a failed doping test on her previous trip to Melbourne Park, was happy to beat the player who’d ended her run at the U.S. Open last year — her first major since the suspension.
“It’s a warm day. I did my job in two sets against someone that’s been troubling in the past for me,” Sharapova said. “I think I deserve to smile out there after that victory.”
Muguruza had little to celebrate after her 7-6 (1), 6-4 loss to No. 88-ranked Hsieh, who has been No. 1 in doubles  but had only previously beaten one top 10 player in singles.
Muguruza followed Venus Williams and U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens out of the tournament in the first week, leaving only Sharapova, Kerber and French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko as Grand Slam winners in the draw.
“She’s definitely a very tricky opponent — she played well,” said Muguruza, acknowledging that the heat was bothersome but it wasn’t the hottest conditions she’d experienced in Australia. “I could have done things better, but at the end, she deserves to win.”
Considered one of the contenders for the title after Serena Williams opted against defending her Australian title, Muguruza had a troubled preparation. She retired with cramps in the second round at the Brisbane International and withdrew before her quarterfinal at Sydney because of a right thigh injury.
Against Hsieh, she struggled with her serve, made 43 unforced errors. She needed a medical time out in the first set, and accidently hit a ball into a line judge in frustration.
Ninth-seeded Johanna Konta, the 2016 Australian Open semifinalist, fended off three match points before losing to U.S. lucky loser Bernarda Pera 6-4, 7-5.
No. 123-ranked Pera is making her Grand Slam debut and, after losing in the last round of qualifying, didn’t even know she had a spot in the main draw until Margarita Gasparyan withdrew with an injury.
“It feels amazing. I was ready to leave on Monday and then they told me I’m in, so I was obviously excited,” Pera said. “I was checking the tickets to fly back. I’m happy I didn’t buy one.”
Pera will next play No. 20 Barbora Strycova, who beat Lara Arruabarrena 6-3, 6-4.
Also advancing were No. 8 Caroline Garcia and No. 26 Agnieszka Radwanska, who next plays Hsieh.
Lauren Davis beat Andrea Petkovic 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 and has a potential third-round match against top-ranked Simona Halep, who was playing Eugenie Bouchard later Thursday.
Former No. 1-ranked Karolina Pliskova advanced to a third-round match against No. 29 Lucie Safarova.
Sam Querrey was the latest of the leading U.S. men eliminated when he lost his second-round match 6-4, 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-2 to 80th-ranked Marton Fucsovics. No. 8 Jack Sock and No. 16 John Isner went out in the first round.
The 13th-seeded Querrey was one of 10 American players — men and women — to reach the second round from the 32 who started the main draws.
No. 5 Dominic Thiem rallied from two sets down to defeat 190th-ranked American qualifier Denis Kudla 6-7 (6), 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-3. No. 21 Albert Ramos beat another American, wild-card entry Tim Smyczek 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (2).
No. 19 Tomas Berdych beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in four sets.
