You can now get an Ad-Free, Tumblr-Live-Free version of the Tumblr Android app

I've been writing some Patches for the Tumblr app in the ReVanced framework, and they just got released in the ReVanced patches Pack, so you can install them too! No computer is needed, and everything is open source, meaning anyone can look at the code and verify that it's not malicious.

Patches

Disable Dashboard Ads (Currently not perfect - doesn't block blazed and doesn't block Tumblr's own "Sponsored" posts that aren't real ads, like the ones that are just a cat sitting in front of a Tumblr logo)

Disable Tumblr Live (Fully and forever!)

Disable "Enable notifications when this person posts" popup

Disable "You can send gifts to people" bubble

Disable the update checker (Tumblr annoys you to update if you're on an old version, who knew?)

Maybe more to come. Please suggest new ones!

Installation

I'm not good at writing beginner-friendly guides, so this one might be hard to understand if you're not a somewhat experienced user - there's already a bunch of guides for ReVanced, and they have a support discord where you can ask for help. I encourage anyone to write a better guide for this.

First we need to download and install the ReVanced Manager. You can get it here: https://revanced.app/ Just download and install the APK.

Just like with any android app download that doesn't use the Google play store (or similar stores), you'll get some warnings that the file could be dangerous (since it's an app installer package), and you'll likely have to give your browser or File explorer permissions to install apps.

Next, we'll need a Tumblr APK to patch it. We usually can't use your already installed Tumblr since it's a Split-APK, and ReVanced doesn't really support those. Get one from APKMirror (preferred) or alternatively from APKPure (often doesn't have all app versions). Make sure you're selecting the download to a normal APK, not a Split-APK/XAPK. Also probably don't download a version that has alpha or beta in the name.

If you downloaded the Tumblr apk, don't install it. Open the ReVanced Manager we installed earlier, click Patcher->Select an Application->Storage (bottom right)->Pick the Tumblr APK you just downloaded.

Now you can de-select patches if you want, but the default is fine, it includes all patches made for Tumblr. Then click Patch in the bottom right and wait for it to finish. Before you install the patched Tumblr, you'll have to uninstall the old Tumblr since they have the same package name but our patched one isn't signed by the Google Play Store. So uninstall the Tumblr app now (and probably save/reblog this post if you're on your phone right now so you don't lose it), then switch back to the Manager and click Install to install the patched app.

Yay, now you have patched Tumblr. Everything should work as normal otherwise. If you're reading this in the (far) future and Tumblr ever updated the app and broke the patches and no one updated them to work with newer versions, you can use an old Tumblr APK and it should keep working forever. Right now, I am using v31.5.0.110 and everything is working fine.

Hey, you. Are you annoyed at the new Discord update and want to go back to the old UI*?

It's actually really easy to do. First things first, you need to uninstall Discord. Once that's done, locate an APK file of a legacy version of Discord. Anything is fine as long as it's before version 206 (for my testing I used version 204) https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/discord-inc/discord-chat-for-gamers/ here's the website that I used for mine. Make sure that you use a stable version of the application as you will be dealing with less jankyness that way. (if you use an .apkm file you'll need an additional application that can unpackage the compressed version of that like APKMirror)

Once you've installed this legacy version, you're going to have to log into your account and access the beta version of the new, current UI by sending a ✨

Now before you go through the same method to disable it, while it's enabled navigate over to the setting>appearance and scroll down until you see a switch to toggle of the New Layout. Once this is done, it's disabled and it'll stay off. Even into modern versions of the application. I'm on version 208 with the old UI.

*This only works on Android devices, I'm sure that it can also be done on Apple devices, but as I don't own one, I can't help find a way to get it working for you. Sorry

Hii! sorry for the random tags but i saw your comment/reblog on @changes. I tried to tagged but I couldn't. So I'm sending this here. I'm using an old version from Android too and yesterday my old version stopped working as well. But I uninstalled it and I installed one from 2022 (on my old phone I have one much older yet, probably 2021) and it works. Both of them. I can't see Polls but at least the dash, my blogs and other people blogs work fine. If it helps, it's the version 26.7.0.00.

I don't know what happened to tumblr but at least not all versions stopped working.

Heya! The version I have installed is 27.7.0.110, so not far off from yours. I can't recall if I had tried installing an older version and it didn't work/crashed a lot or if I'm confusing it with my discord installs, but I'll give that version a shot. Personally I don't care if polls work (I actually find them incredibly obnoxious) and most new features are incredibly minor so the old versions work fine for me

Afraid the uninstall and reinstall trick didn't work :(. I think it may be a combination of old app version AND old android version, developers are dropping support for my android version left and right so I can't say I'm all that surprised. Oh well, guess I'll keep using PWA if that other version doesn't work, at least adblocker extensions carry through on that so they don't keep nagging me for ad free. Maybe even xkit will get ported over to android Firefox someday

I had a hankering for some WarCraft III (which I had played earlier this year), so booted up the Battle.net client (😑), signed in (😠), and waited for them to email me a passcode for two-factor authentication (😡). The stupidity that is "we don't like that we're familiar or unfamiliar with the computer you're using, so please enter this second password" infecting every entity that requires passwords in the first place was new, but all of the rest of the bullshit was just more of the same. I had kinda gotten over the fact that I have to log into a service and be online to use a game I've only ever played in single player mode -- even if the added rigamarole of being connected to a chat cloud slows down both the game and my computer in general. Hell, I grin and bear the fact that Blizzard destroyed all creativity their World Editor once allowed (given how it spawned LoL and DotA, I get their point of view).

I open up the client to find that I have to download a patch to play. The patch is over 5 gigs; the original game was like one gig. I am using my Mom's non-gaming laptop, which is over ten years old at this point, and am running out of memory. I have just enough free space that if I can manage to delete somewhere between 500 Mb and a gig, I can fit the patch on, so I do.

Once the patch has downloaded and installed, I try running the game. Everything is slower than it had already been: back in the old days, the needless menu animations could slow down some compies; with the Reforged nonsense, they became worse; but this was something else. The background wouldn't load right away. I get a few menus in (about three clicks) before the game stops responding to the mouse. I have to close out via Task Manager. I repeat this process several more times, realizing that the lock out happens once the raining background loads (still with Blizz's recognizably, weirdly low poly counts and non-circular circles for graphics which somehow strain computers anyway).

I dig out my discs of the game. Unfortunately, the installation wizard won't load.

I try adjusting the installation, but get nowhere with that option.

I then try uninstalling it, thinking I could simply reinstall -- y'know, since the game is tied to my Battle.net account.

There is no option for Classic WarCraft III. There is only the option for Reforged, which is needless crap.

I check my hard drive, thinking I didn't have room for Reforged anyway. It is now down to half full. That's right: my Battle.net-tied version of Classic WarCraft III came with all of the files for Reforged on my computer, taking up something like 33 times the space of the original game and preventing me from using my computer for other, more pressing storage uses without letting me know, hiding all of that behind some semi-clever coding that will unlock once it's recognized that I had paid for Reforged.

I've encountered my fair share of stupidity, but that's Insane Troll logic. It is begging for a hack to just give you Reforged for free. Who in their right mind gives you files you don't want and then programs additional files to hide those so you can't use them (or the space they're occupying) and don't know you even have them? All this for a game that has been panned for being janky as fuck when the original worked fine. (How do you screw up a game and enlarge it by an astronomical amount when your only task was to give it a cosmetic upgrade?)

Info: This is a download by Macksims (from PinkRabbit, also known as simaginate).

Required: All EP's up to Showtime (= World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Pets, Showtime)

Notes: This world is still a beta version. It's compatible with patch 1.42 or lower and has not been throughly tested with newer patches. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. All lots are empty and no CC is needed. For more info please see the section underneath the download.

It is build for pre-modern game play such as medieval, renaissance, antiquity or even early modern periods. It is also perfect for your fantasy world.

The world is based on the Danish climate, so it has a lot of deciduous trees. There are a few rocks around the world but no cliffs or mountains. It is a hilly world with a lot of farm land around. There is no houses included in the world at all, it is meant as a build your own world-base. Most of the lots are small or tiny but there are some good size lots in there as well. The world is meant for someone who want to build their own world – most lots are not suited for downloaded lots! The world has spawners of all kinds.

The world has been renamed, but you will still want to uninstall the old version for the new one to work. All lot sizes are also the same.

This version (V3) is the latest one and was uploaded in April 2012. I haven't shared any of their other versions.

Completely CC Free!

I have all EPs installed including Showtime, so the world might need all of them. I know I have used items from WA, but I am not sure if you can play it without the other EPs. My game is also patched so I would expect that your game need to be patched up to 1.33 or newer.

I can't install the world but I don't know if it's because I don't have Generations or because I'm on patch 1.67.

I would assume that objects from other EP's were also used but I can't check it. Feel free to test it yourself.

I have only tested this on my machine so it is not beta-tested, so use at your own risk! Please report any problems here.

The comments underneath the original post from April 2012 until May 2013 confirm that the world seems to work fine during that time. As the site is not accessible anymore, feel free to add comments and issues to this post instead so that we know what to expect in 2022.

As always with new worlds, it is a good idea to save and go to the main menu and re-entering before starting to play, it makes the fog spawners etc. work probably.

Update: The water in the world is swimable with patch 1.42 so I am very happy about that!

There are a few lot tears, I do not plan to fix these but they are easy to covered up with bushes.

Most lots in this world are residential. If you do not want that many sims to move in, just change them to community lots in Edit Town mode. The few community lots that are there are located where I need them, but that may not be where you want them. If you want different lot sizes, just delete the lots in the Edit Town lot editor and place down your own lots.

The world is build on a large map, but I think the playable area is about medium size. Recommended CC:

Overwatch: This is highly recommended when playing any world – it removes stuck sims and cars for you so it really cuts down on lag. This is not a hack but really a bug fix.

Medieval finds: In case you want to play a medieval world LivingSims Forum got a a great list of CC that would work well for you.

Forum is offline due to hackers, I'm working on tracking down the content but it's not looking good.

Rabbit Hole Replacements: As most lots are too small to place traditional rabbit holes on you might want to get these rugs that lets you make any lot into a rabbit hole.
