Ok the fact that nandor was trying to help the guide by finding a stick before the “pack of humans” started running towards him! Nandor would’ve left anyone else there to save himself (well maybe he’d saved guillermo). So like, at least he tried?

I know we're about to get into the discourse and discussion for a new ep so lemme get this out while it's on my mind, but I keep turning over that convo they have in the flooded basement while getting Colin and like, the structure of it, I guess, bc as always there's a lot they're saying without saying it all outloud. Like, I notice Nandor only insults Guillermo for the first time in these two eps after they start their argument and Guillermo's asking him (rhetorically, because of course he doesn't know) if he's aware he's had to miss his mother's birthday for the past 3 years on account of him, and Nandor rallies back, "No?? why would I know that? I'd have to know it was your mother's birthday and also the things you do", openly implying he doesn't care about that as if to directly counter Guillermo's mention of other people he may care about more than Nandor that he's been neglecting with something equally cutting. 'Oh you don't care about me?? Well see how little I care about you!!' sort of thing. And then sort of out of nowhere (tho the wives were mentioned earlier, but still) Guillermo reminds him he's very very cool and normal and 100% okay with Nandor getting married to someone else, under the pretense of setting up to remind him that despite this he's still neglecting his family, but before he can get to that, of course, Nandor cuts in with how sarcastically glad HE is that Guillermo is COOL with it, see we BOTH don't care about each other, hah, take that.
Like I said, it's just interesting to me for how much is being said in these little petty insults and catty comments thrown back and forth under the guise of trying to prove how little of a shit they give about each other because they're both actually so vulnerable and in love with each other they're too afraid for the other person to know and see the full extent of that, particularly when one perceives that they're being slighted/ignored/insulted by the other
They're really doing the exact same thing in just kind of an endless feedback loop. I feel like Nandor does this because of the way the centuries have rendered him insecure about a lot of things, and I feel like Guillermo does it for partially similar reasons, but I feel like this is also kind of his instinctive reaction to feeling hurt by someone he assumes is as oblivious as Nandor, certain he wouldn't understand or wouldn't care if he just told him how he felt outright, so he gets passive aggressive. (but I also kinda feel like Nandor learned from Guillermo a bit where this is concerned, bc I don't think he started doing the backhanded/passive-aggressive comments with the sly look at the camera until more recently in the narrative but i could be wrong)
I feel like there was a time Nandor insulted Guillermo inadvertently, but the nature of their dynamic and how they've both grown is such now that when he does it, he does it on purpose and usually because he perceives Guillermo's already done it to him.
so yeah passive aggressive fighting while dancing around deep seated romantic feelings is something that can be so personal actually

ohhhmygoddd they KNOW the cloak of duplication opens up so many possibilities for fanfics they know it and they made it canon bc this show is the gift that keeps on giving
Because now I can’t stop thinking of Guillermo, after agonizing over what he and Meg discussed, finally deciding to just rip off the band-aid and corner Nandor in his room while everyone else is out on Vampiric Council™️ duties. And Guillermo’s too frazzled, his heartbeat roaring too loudly in his ears to notice how “Nandor” isn’t standing quite as straight as he normally does, or how his voice has taken an odd twinge— and he just bursts out his trainwreck of a confession.
Because for weeks Guillermo’s had to endure watching Nandor’s seemingly relentless search for love in every other direction except towards Guillermo, and he can’t stand staying silent anymore—even if it ruins their relationship.
And Nandor finally snaps out of his shock when Guillermo starts resigning (How many times is Gizmo going to resign??) from his duties as their bodyguard, sputtering a, “Hey now, Gizmo, young chap, let’s take a breather for a moment. I’m sure Nan— I. I have some sort of emotion towards you. Possibly. How about you go back to your cage, or wherever you go, for tonight, and come back tommorow night. We’ll continue this very awkward conversation then? Please do not resign again, I was very much an insufferable arse the last time you up and left.”
But Guillermo still looks like he’s about to bolt. So Nandor does the one thing he can think of to make him calm down, make him stay, at least for now. And he gently, oh so gently, tips Guillermo’s chin up. Pulls him into a tender kiss—
Right as Nandor, the real Nandor, walks through the door.
And poor Laszlo barely has any time to yell out, “In my defense, I was left unsupervised and you know how much danger turns me on— Ok, not helping—“ before Nandor’s snarling and tossing Laszlo out the window.

So something interesting... while the characters in the wwdits tv show do not necessarily have an immediate 1:1 counterpart from the film, it is pretty obvious that the movie influenced the tv show & the subsequent characters. For instance, Nandor—especially in the pilot—shares a lot of similar traits with Viago. Another example would be the Baron & his familiar acting similar to Petyr, with the Baron being the obvious stand-in for an ancient vampire while his familiar takes on the silent, looming presence in the house for the time she is present.
But, the more I thought about it, the more I noticed that the tv show has been good at paralleling unlikely characters/groups of characters within the confines of the tv universe itself. I’ve explored the parallels between Carol & Simon the Devious vs. Nandor & Guillermo in fic here, for instance. This time, though, I want to talk about the parallels between Nandor and the Baron bc i love over-analyzing characters lol
Here’s a long list of similarities/parallels btwn Nandor & the Baron that I’ve noticed:
Both are the oldest vampires we’ve seen strictly in the tv show to my knowledge (not counting Vladislav’s appearance as he is 862 yrs old). Nandor is 758 yrs old while the Baron is 953 years old.
Both have very devoted familiars—it’s obvious that Guillermo cares for Nandor and that the Baron’s familiar cares for the Baron since she goes out of her way to watch over the house/follows the vamps on their night out.
Similar to the above point, despite being arguably powerful vampires (I still stand by the fact that tho we haven’t seen Nandor in battle/use his powers aside from helping do mundane tasks, that he is arguably as strong as the Baron), their familiars show little to no fear of them. Guillermo is unfazed by Nandor’s posturing (i.e., hissing) and while the Baron himself admits to having random bouts of rage/anger his current familiar is still devoted to him & never showed even an inkling of fear.
Both seem especially unable to navigate the current century. Yes, Nandor seems much better at traversing the modern world compared to the Baron, but if u compare Nandor to Nadja and Laszlo, it’s obvious he struggles more & that’s precisely why he needs a human familiar more than the other vampires in the house. Guillermo is essentially his anchor to the modern world. Also, it’s likely that the Baron’s appearance has made it difficult for him to blend in with the human world; Nandor can effectively mask his vampiric traits/appearance but the Baron (assumedly) can’t change what his face looks like.
Desire for a family: this is the big one imo!! We don’t know the Baron’s exact background, but we do know he’s always desired a biological child of his own—a family. Nandor, similarly, had a family as a human and thru the series, we’ve seen that he wants to reconnect with his family (i.e., his descendants). They both desire things they cannot have—the Baron is incapable of having biological children of his own & Nandor’s children & wives are likely long dead.
Power/Conquest: Nandor clings to his past identity of an Ottoman warlord. He’s definitely mellowed out a lot over the centuries, but there are moments where his old desire for bloodshed shines through (ex: the speech Doug Peterson gives in 1x02 which I’m sure was 100% Nandor’s wording, his willingness to fight a ghost in 2x02, his whole speech involving the head-ripping gloves in 2x03). Compared to Nadja and Laszlo, he seems almost excited abt the idea of vampires ruling over humans (or at least doesn’t make a comment against it like Nadja did). The Baron showed no qualms in killing humans and using his powers out in the open; he even mentions how often he acted cruelly in the past in 1x06. There is an obvious difference between human!Nandor and vampire!Nandor, leaving him with a grab-bag of unusual traits, some reminiscent of his human life (sword fighting, chess, history, reading) and others likely developed thru his time as a vampire (arts & crafts, list-making/journaling, hyper-specific interests bound to a certain time period ex: Olympics basketball team). Likewise, I’m sure that the Baron too was a very different human than he is a vampire.
Nobility: both Nandor and the Baron view themselves as nobility--with Nandor’s being fairly accurate (he was a warlord & leader of a country) & the Baron’s due to his unfortunate nickname (Barren vs. Baron), making him assumedly act w/ certain airs to keep up a charade of nobility.
Anyway, that’s about it! I’m crossing my fingers for a possible Baron return in season 3 (or future seasons) bc i just think his character is neat!
