Probably the stupidest, most reckless but undeniably bravest thing Mu Qing did in the entire novel was coming forward to Xie Lian with the truth about the missing golden foil.

#tgcf #yes yes i know i shit on the man all the time #and it is 100% deserved #i stand by that #but he wasn’t always a shitty 800-year-old manbaby #once he was a child with principles #THAT is his potential as a person #like imagine you are the child of a man who your government had to EXECUTE #and you have been put in a position where coming forward about something #would have you dubbed a thief TO THE VERY GROUP OF PEOPLE WHO ALSO EXECUTED YOUR FATHER #who would have the courage to still come forward and just be *honest*? #mu qing who struggles with honesty on a GOOD day made that call #he didn’t know xie lian at that time for shit #and EVERYONE knew of qi rong as an absolute menace #he had NO reason to believe he’d come out of that situation unscathed #yet still! #against all the odds #and all common sense #HE WAS REWARDED!
