#but China is no more uniform than India
Text
Look I’m not going to dispute whether or not Han Chinese is the ethnicity with the highest global population percentage (because it could be true), but I sure as fuck want to drill it into everyone’s head that that statistic is without a doubt heavily inflated by Han nationalism. Which is the current Chinese government’s policy of imposing Han identity and culture on every citizen it possibly can.
Cultural genocide is de facto state policy, and at this point it’s almost impossible to know what percentage of “Han” Chinese people are actually ethnic minorities whose roots were erased. And just so you understand the scale of it, there are Han nationalists trying to claim Korean hanbok is actually just a derivative of hanfu, that the majority of Viet people are actually Chinese, and that Tibetan artifacts are actually Chinese artifacts. And the brainwashing runs deep, to the point I had American-born Chinese classmates say some of that shit to my face.
So no, straight cis white men aren’t the Global Default Human by any stretch of the imagination, but—*gestures vaguely at the aforementioned Han nationalism*—that shit rubs me the wrong way just as much.

Submitting my thoughts as an Indian and Pakistani fan of GG, but I'm kinda disappointed that a lot of analysts who cover Zepp don't seem all too concerned with looking closely at aspects of South Asian culture and history or anything outside of India when it comes to Zepp. Yes it is Indian but you can't discuss India and just magically divorce it from shared cultural ties with Pakistan (and by extension Bangladesh, however I am not Bengali and thus can't speak much on it.) For example Gabriel's blue uniform is so clearly based on a veshti combined with the female air force uniform for Pakistan, or that Zepp's symbol is based on the Garuda Commando Forces logo- even the uniforms of said force match much closer to Zepp's uniforms than any stated "inspiration" I've seen. Hell even the slavery system within Zepp is a reflection that our countries still struggle with caste and class based slavery on a much larger scale (it's affected my own lower class family). This isn't even to mention Potemkin who seems much more tied to how Indo-Pak militarism, nationalism, and facism can affect areas like Kashmir. People are quick to call "German and Russian" influences but the only ones I remotely even observe as a brown person are literally just Pot and Gabriel's names. I dunno. It's just vexing to me. Like it's a country made by dissatisfied Indians post-crusades, so the idea that the old government was somehow less south asian is like. Weird to me. Like there's nothing to indicate that other than people conflating out architectural styles with Russian ones too. Like a lot of Zepp seems to resemble Rajasthani and Punjabi (both sides) architecture in particular but I'm just saddened knowing nobody will look that far into it simply because they might not have that same cultural attachment to it.
Side note I'm also not a fan of how Daisuke refuses to give names to Zeppian characters that match with their ethnic background. For every Leon Mining, Gabriel, and Potemkin, we could've gotten like... actual references to our rock and metal scene. Even "Zepp" as the country name dissatisfies me. Creators and fandoms have such a bad habit at making something or acknowledging something as "South Asian" and then refuse to elaborate on it beyond a few visuals. It feels gauche.
Something something the prevalence of ki not being touched upon for any of South Asia / Zepp by extension within GG is also a major annoyance when we share a lot of faith based aspects with regions like China and Japan.
This has been kinda long winded but holy shit fighting games really just annoy me sometimes with how they treat South Asia as a whole. I just feel it very strongly with GG in particular since Daisuke was very close to peak. So close. I will say he clearly put in a lot of effort that non-south asians probably wouldn't recognize at a first glance, but the smaller details surrounding Zepp and some of the assumptions made about Zepp fandom wise combine into a "nobody will get it like I do" situation.
It's genuinely very cool to see someone's perspective and analysis on it who has more experience and understanding than most western gamers. I appreciate you sharing!

India overtakes China to become world’s most populous country (Hannah Ellis-Petersen, The Guardian, April 24 2023)
“It is also the first time since 1950, when the UN first began keeping global population records, that China has been knocked off the top spot.
China’s population decline follows decades of strict laws to bring the country’s booming birthrate under control, including the introduction of a one-child policy in the 1980s.
This included fines for having extra children, forced abortions and sterilisations.
While initially highly effective in controlling the population, these policies became a victim of their own success, and the country is now grappling with an ageing population in steep decline, which could have severe economic implications.
Part of the problem is that because of a traditional preference for boys, the one-child policy led to a massive gender imbalance.
Men now outnumber women by about 32 million. “How can the country now shore up birth rates, with millions of missing women?” asks Mei Fong, the author of One Child, a book about the impact of the policy.
Recent policies introduced in China trying to incentivise women to have more children have done little to stimulate population growth.
Women still have only 1.2 children and the population is expected to fall by almost 10% in the next two decades.
According to projections, the size of the Chinese population could drop below 1 billion before the end of the century.
In India, the population has grown by more than a billion since 1950. Though growth has now slowed, the number of people in the country is still expected to continue to rise for the next few decades, hitting its peak of 1.7 billion by 2064. (…)
India’s demography is far from uniform across the country.
One third of predicted population growth over the next decade will come from just two states, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, in the north of the country, which are some of India’s poorest and most agricultural states.
Uttar Pradesh alone already has a population of about 235 million, bigger than Nigeria or Brazil.
Meanwhile states in India’s south, which is more prosperous and has far higher rates of literacy, population rates have already stabilised and have begun to fall.
In the next decade, states in the southern states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu are likely to start grappling with an ageing population, and by 2025, one in five people in Kerala will be over 60.
The divide in population growth between India’s north and south could also have political implications.
After 2026, India’s electoral lines are due to be revised and redrawn based on census data, in particular relating to the number of people in constituencies.
Many politicians in southern states have expressed concern that their successes in bringing down population numbers, through education programmes, family planning and high literacy, could result in a reduction in their political representation in parliament, and a further political domination of the northern states that continue to have a population boom.
Currently the average age in India is just 29, and the country will continue to have a largely youthful population for the next two decades.
A similar “demographic dividend” proved highly useful in China, leading to an economic boom, particularly in manufacturing.
While India has one of the world’s fastest-growing economies in the world, and recently overtook the UK as the fifth-largest, experts have stressed that the country needs more investment in education and employment to seize the opportunity presented by a young population over the next few decades.
India continues to struggle with high youth unemployment and less than 50% of working-age Indians are in the workforce.
The figure for women is even lower, with just 20% of women participating in the formal labour market, a figure that is decreasing as India develops.”

overall thoughts about the country girls i've been drawing sometimes
what is this?: country humanizations with focus on Russia, America and China. tagged "nothetalia", ie "not-hetalia". maybe i'll come up with a better name one day
the overall concept: it's focused on international politics, so the characters' behavior is more alligned with their country's behavior on the world stage rather than with national stereotypes. modern-day focused. the characters exist on another plane of reality, so they can do magic, turn into animals, change appearances and undergo mitosis (about this later)
the design philosophy: all of them are women, no exceptions. because of the political focus, their clothes tend towards "business casual" to reflect that. sometimes inspiration can be drawn from the looks of prominent female politicians of a country. most of the times it's taken out of my ass and based on vibes.
the mitosis thing: because the characters are on another plane of existance and have to reflect political reality, they are very... fluid. for example: if a country is divided by civil war, then it gets split into two characters with the same face, same memories and even a mental link akin to telepathy. if they grow apart further, the link can get weaker to the point where it's almost entirely broken, and the twins are very much separate entities. an example of such separation: Britain and America (America started off as Britain's "double" so they still share a face and some physical features. i think they still share a mental link of sorts.) the characters can sometimes refer to their relationships as familiar, but it's very arbituary. America and Britain switch between calling each other "sisters" or "cousins", and Russia would think about the Union as her (late) mother (although technically current Russia is her "double" with the same memories and arguably the same-ish "consciousness", whatever that means)
relationships which interest me the most:
Russia & China: they have these vibes of "we are adults. we know love doesn't exist. we know we can't get attached. Healthy Distance, ok. not like the last time. this time we're sooo careful." i explored a very optimistic outlook on this dynamic in this fic. being so different means both some inevitable mistrust and an actually smoother dynamic where there's, like, less to argue about. i think they're very complimentary in essence. when China speaks Chinese and Russia speaks Russian, they understand each other perfectly. but only when they're drunk.
Russia & America: you know it's a great dynamic when in the "you're not rocking with me!? im gonna kill myself" meme each of them can be both the one breaking up and the one threatening to kill herself. (although im of the opinion that it's America who's responding to the break up text, but that is debatable.) i explored their dynamic a little in this and this fics. i think they're on the stage of very personal and visceral hatred and you cannot have them in the same room like two territorial and agressive cats
Russia & Germany: Germany refused to have friday beers with Russia so for a while she walked back and forth outside of Germany's window like an impatient tiger in a cage. Germany was too scared to tell her to leave so she just quietly closed the blinds
USSR & East Germany: im a bit insane about them tbh. i once saw a picture from i think better call saul (i haven't watched it, full disclosure) where he and his love interest lie in bed together but they're both dressed in business attire? yeah like this is their dynamic. but they're in military uniforms.
honorable mentions i'd like to think about more in the future:
America & Britain: i feel like they have something very messed up and entertaining going on Russia & India: a lot of wholesome potential. Russia & Iran: united by love for the geranium flowers Russia & North Korea: Russia appearing out of nowhere like heyyyy so, still friends, right?)) and Korea is like uh-huh. "welcome home cheater" vibes. Russia & Turkey: they're friends. they hate each other. they know the other very well. the most toxic and duplicitous "friendship" in the world and that's why it can be so fun

Sorry to bother you with this, but I have a question since you seem to me as someone in this community who always has great answers and tips and custom content as well! So yes, my question is, do you maybe know where I can download Middle East/Asian-like clothes for men and women? Some nice looking ones with higher quality since some of the clothes I found are very old 🙁
Sadly I'm wrong person to ask this since I only have very few East/Asian looking things but uh....
First one that came to my mind is Yuxi, she had gorgeous things and few Asian inspired too, you can find her downloads here. Especially check from under the clothes and GoS Events folders.
Michelle Borgia's blog, their whole aesthetic is Asian. Also likely the person you'd want to send your WCIF if that's the kind of content you're after. For more modern Asian stuff try Katsurin, especially if you enjoy Lolita aesthetic or school uniforms.
I also found this wiki which lists a tons of historical Asian clothes: https://historicalsims2.fandom.com/wiki/Historical_Asian (but prepare for a tons of broken links) and of course if you're looking for more modern things then that one's not much help.
Sims 3to2 database has section for World Adventures (which included China) and store sets such as: Dreams of India, Street Couture (which is more modern stuff) Itadakimasu! (Japanese restaurant stuff) Zen Again & Imperial Bedroom Zen (Asian inspired furniture) Japanese Inspired Living (more furniture) India Inspirations (furniture, hair, clothes) and I think that's all of them.
Plumb Bob Keep might have something useful but again it's more historical content so if you want modern stuff it might not be helpful.
Last two, there's TS2 Theme CC Server Discord (click the link for invite) they have section for Asian Fantasy. Might not be the kind of stuff you're after but if you don't mind things not being accurate those are at least really pretty :D and then there's TS2 CAS CC Finds discord which has section for Asian. Both links expire in 7 days apparently.
Also: While I don't mind WCIFs I'd prefer them to ask about content I actually use in my game instead of random ones like this. Asking me for extremely specifically themed stuff feels a little bit pointless when there are people who actually concentrate on such content and make it their whole aesthetic. I'm not saying this to be rude, but you know, you'll get better answers from people who are more familiar with that sort of content than me who dresses my sims as casually as it gets.
Edit:

Shannanisims did some traditional Chinese gowns, called a Qui- Po or Cheong-Sam. (I hope I spelled that right, lol.)
I think it's spelled Qipao? While trying to find link to Shannanisims (since the only shannanisims I found on tumblr makes Sims 4 content) I stumbled upon this pinterest board with some more Asian content though which might be useful for anon. On which topic, try looking through pinterest searching for Sims 2 Asian, Asia, Japan, China, India and any other related word you can think of.

I am not a certified Botanist, Naturopathic Doctor, Homeopathologist, Herbalist, Apothecary, or any other professional having to do with the healing world of plants. I am not a professional. I do not, and will not claim to be a professional or to hold any of these titles. I am nothing more than an individual with 10+ years experience in self study and semi-formal training in a non certified environment. However, I will be using mostly sources written by professionals, or people well experienced in these fields, and doing my best to cite accurate materials and scientific studies.
That having been said, as with the group I was teaching, I encourage discussion, participation, and cross referencing of materials. Feel free to take everything posted in these classes with a grain of salt and a lot of cross-referencing. In fact, I insist you do so and I also ask that if you find discrepancies within these lessons, that you make them known to me so that I may correct the information in order to reduce spreading inaccuracies, as in this field, such things can be dangerous.
I also heavily recommend that you do not attempt any of these remedies we’ll be discussing, or attempt self treatment and diagnosis without FIRST consulting an actual medical professional who is trained and certified to help you and properly assess your health and the impact any treatments may have on it.

What is Herbal Medicine exactly?
Though I personally prefer the term “Homeopathy” (though the correct definition is far from my personal usage of it), the practice of using plants as medicine also goes by many names: Natural Medicine, Organic Medicine, Heroic Medicine, Natural Remedies, Woman’s Medicine, Wise Healing, a type of Holistic Medicine, Folk Medicine and many others. I’ll leave it to you to decide which you’d like to call it by, but for the sake of uniformity I’ll be calling it Herbal Medicine throughout our lessons.
But I still didn’t answer your question did I? Herbal Medicine, to put it simply, is the medicine of the people.
From the beginning of time man has both revered and utilized plants and herbal Medicine is believed to be the oldest known therapy used by humankind. Various forms of it have been discovered around the world from China to India and on our own Continent of North America, and information on herbs and their usage has been passed down from generation to generation in many ways; through stories, in books in music and several other methods. Our ancestors used it, our neighbors used it, our grandmothers probably used it, and people today around the world still use it. When used correctly it is simple, safe, cheap, effective, relatively side effect free, and easier to maintain and obtain than modern medicine.
Right now, at this point in the evolution of humankind, we are living in the best time to be using and learning it. Why? Because we have one major thing that our ancestors did not. Today we have a better understanding of science and bodily functions which leaves us in a better position than our ancestors to understand and utilize the healing power of plants and their potential as multi-functional treatments for ailments. Believe it or not, if it wasn’t for the retention of Herbal Knowledge throughout the centuries, we wouldn’t even have some of our modern medicines as some of the most common modern medicines are derived from the same plants we seek to use in their natural forms.
Herbal Medicine as a holistic medicine also comes in several forms that fit a wide range of beliefs and practices.
Some may choose to use the Allopathic where Allopathy seeks to heal by producing symptoms opposite of what the patient expresses; others like the Homeopathic approach wherein Homeopathy seeks to heal through producing the same, or “worsening” the symptoms the patient expresses; Some people prefer to use sense therapies such as the aroma-therapies, other’s topical and more massage based healing, and even more prefer the use of ingested materials in their various ways; Some believe that in order to be effective,  you must use the chemical approach wherein herbs are researched to determine the basic ingredients and classified according to their group of chemicals; Others believe that in order to be effective, the energetic approach as used in Ayurveda, must be taken wherein herbs are considered to affect the body’s energies. Even the spiritualist approach is sometimes taken where the herbs are purported to affect the soul or spirit before the body.
There’s many more types and a wide range of beliefs that use Herbal Medicine in a wide range of ways, these are some of the most, and least common. However, through the multiple methods of Herbal Treatment, no matter what approach to Herbal Medicine is taken there are always the same base principles.
The first being that Herbal Medicine usually seeks to choose herbs that restore a person’s “vital balance”, thus aiding the body in healing itself and not just suppressing the symptoms of the illness as most modern medications often do. Herbal Remedies assist in invoking the body’s inherent healing powers and are used to treat many different types of health issues and views illness or disease as the body’s instinctive protective effort to rectify any imbalance instead of as an adversary to be conquered or suppressed. Therefore, a homeopathic practitioner will select a therapy devised to encourage the body’s innate healing abilities with the intent is to restore the body to its natural healthy balance.
It also operates on the principle that illness is specific to each person. As the emotional and mental components of the illness are just as significant as the physical symptoms, a detailed case history is important. All herbal medicine therapies are tailored to each individual and a practitioner of Herbal Medicine will often gather information about the individual regarding not only the specific details of the illness but also about their lifestyle, eating patterns and character traits before choosing a remedy; it is quite likely that no two people will receive exactly the same remedy for the same condition.
But it is important to note that there are disadvantages of using Homeopathic treatments as well.
The main disadvantage is that today’s population wants a “quick fix”. They are happy to be given a pill or cut open and are usually oblivious to the long term side effects of Modern Medicine, especially when used in conjunction with other Modern Medicines. Those of us who have extensively studied Herbal Medicines know that there is no “Quick Fix” when it comes to them, and that each treatment takes time; more time than some people are willing to take, and it’s quite common for a person to temporarily feel worse before feeling better depending on the approach taken to the remedy.
Another disadvantage is that Herbal Medicine cannot completely replace the need for Modern Medications, especially in emergency situations or in cases where the patient suffers from an incurable disease or other ailments that Herbs are not strong enough or capable of treating or correcting. That being said, however, the use of herbs can compliment modern medicine in situations where the administration of Homeopathic medicine can alleviate the symptoms of such ailments in the long term in a cost effective and relatively side effect free way.
Which brings me to side effects. Remember the “relatively side effect free” phrase earlier? That’s because no medicine is completely side effect free, including Herbal Medicine. It is important to note that Herbal Medicine runs some of the same risks as Modern Medicine, and sometimes they can contain more risks.
Although Herbal Medicine is relatively safe and very rarely an overdose will result in death or severe disability, there are still symptoms one can express that signals the overuse of the herb, or remedy, that can be considered “overdosing”. Some plants are only safe in small dosages before one runs the risk of “overdosing” or experiencing negative side effects; Allergies are a main concern as everyone is allergic to something and herbs are in no way different in this aspect; Herbs can also be contaminated during growth by pesticides and other chemicals (which is why most people will recommend you buy your herbs from Organic Retailers or not at all). Another is that they may not work in conjunction with other medicines (herbal or modern) and one may override the effect of the other, or not mesh well and produce other unforeseen complications.
Because of the risks that are inherent with the use of herbs, it is unadvised that you rely solely on self treatment, even if experienced. In fact, most practitioners stress the importance of cross-consultation between someone specializing in Herbal Medicines, and Modern Doctor before beginning self treatment, as well as being completely open and honest with both parties about conditions and other medications, herbal or non. Not doing this can sometimes result in minor to severe problems, even if the person self-treating is highly experienced.

Pratt & Whitney delivers the 1,000th F135 engine
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/02/2022 - 16:00in Military
The F135 engine, which drives the F-35 Lightning II, reached the production mark of 1,000 units. In the coming years, series production will continue at a high level, as the F-35 is satisfied with a high demand.
The F135 fighter engine was delivered to the U.S. Department of Defense, reaching this production milestone 13 years after the delivery of the first F135 series engine.
The F135 is an additional development of the F119 turbofan that drives the F-22 Raptor. According to the manufacturer, it offers a significant increase in performance compared to the previous generation of engines. This includes a boost of more than 40,000 pounds (178 kN), a precise and responsive integrated engine control system that allows the pilot to fully focus on the mission, as well as an unparalleled observable signature that allows the F-35 to perform operations in modern access/area (A2AD) environments.
The F135 has continuously progressed in reliability and availability. According to Pratt & Whitney, it now reaches twice the specification for the number of flight hours between two prescribed engine changes.
Tumblr media
Jill Albertelli, president of Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, said on the occasion of the delivery of the 1,000th F135: "Each of these 1,000 engines is a safe, affordable and reliable 5th Generation drive in the hands of our customers. The F135 forms the pinnacle of hunting propulsions and ensures that our women and men in uniform fulfill their missions in the most modern threat environments and can return home safely."
Pratt & Whitney has invested more than half a billion dollars in technologies and production processes since 2009 to reduce the unit costs of the F135. Currently, they represent only about 50% of unit costs at the beginning of the program.
The manufacturer produces the F135 at its factory in Middletown, in the U.S. state of Connecticut. In addition to Middletown, the production sites of the F135 also include the factory in West Palm Beach, Florida, as well as a FACO (Final Assembly & Check-Out) factory operated by IHI in Japan.

The New Thomas Cook New Business, Same Sunny Heart
After the original business collapsed in September 2019, a few committed former employees were determined the legacy of Thomas Cook would find a new life.
Two months later, Osun Tourism Group, the owners of Club Med, bought the Thomas Cook brand along with the inimitable Sunny Heart logo - a symbol of joy and happiness, and an important part of the business’ identity.
Those former employees created a new venture - one that embodies the essence of the man himself but brings it to bang up to date with the latest technology many business listings.
Our website lets you package your own holiday. You go away when you want, for as long as you want. And with thousands of hotels to choose from and more flight routes and airlines than ever before, your well-deserved getaway can be whatever you want it to be.
You can contact us by phone or Live Chat every day, 12 hours a day - and if you’re on holiday, you can reach us 24/7. You can even ask us to find your holiday for you.
Thomas Cook's History
The Inventor of Package Holidays
The original package holiday was a train journey from Leicester to Loughborough in 1841. There were 500 passengers on board that day. And for most of them, it was the first time they’d ever ridden a steam train.
People crowded the streets, filled the windows, and packed onto bridges end route just to get a glimpse of the carriage as it hurtled along the tracks at breakneck speed. And when the train pulled into Loughborough, the intrepid travelers were greeted by a brass band and throngs of cheering crowds.
The trip was organised by Thomas Cook, who later wrote of the journey: “And thus was struck the keynote of my excursions, and the social idea grew upon me.”
The 22-mile package holiday cost a shilling and sixpence - about a day’s wages back then. But financially, there was nothing in it for Mr Cook. Although he organised repeat trips each summer for the next three years, he wouldn’t turn a profit until 1845.
This initial foray into tourism was a time of discovery. It proved that if travel was convenient and accessible, more people would, in Mr Cook's own words, “go beyond”. And “go beyond” they most certainly did.
For the next 33 years, he shuttled tourists up, down and around the country. He later shipped travelers as far as Japan, India and the United States on a 222-day world tour he called 'China via Egypt'.
After Mr Cook’s retirement, the company was passed on from son to grandsons, and in 1928 it ceased to be a family business. From that point on, it changed hands five times, counting among its owners a Belgian train operator, a German bank and even the British government business listings.
Like the man himself, Thomas Cook moved with the times. Mr Cook’s lifetime saw the rise of train travel and steamships. And he embraced both with enthusiasm. As time went on, the business traded rail journeys for motor car tours and steamers for flights, always finding new ways to help more people discover the world.
Thomas Cook was the pioneer of trouble-free travelling. He was also the inventor of convenient package holidays. And for us who work under his name in the new business, his life was a legacy we hope to live up to.
An "internationally significant" archive from one of the most famous names in travel has begun to go online.
The Thomas Cook collection features travel brochures from as early as 1858, a selection of staff uniforms, and some 60,000 photographs.
Leicestershire County Council said if all the boxes of diaries, letters, and other records were laid out, it would make a line 250m (820ft) long.
The project, funded by a £40,000 grant, will continue until April.
The entire Thomas Cook archive was acquired by the county council in 2019, following a nationwide bidding process to find a new permanent home for the collection.
The earliest holidays were around the UK, with foreign holidays coming later
Thanks to the project funded by the National Archives, items that can already be searched online include staff magazines, volumes of contracts and agreements, and historic travel brochures free business listings.
The oldest brochure dates back to 1858 with the first continental brochures appearing in 1865.
Most of the collection dates from around 1890, with samples from nearly every year being kept.

Indian Hog Deer - Axis Porcinus
The Indian hog deer (Hyelaphus porcinus) is a small deer whose habitat ranges from Pakistan, through northern India, to mainland southeast Asia, which inhabits much of the Indo-Gangetic Plains of Pakistan, northern India, Nepal, Bangladesh, southwestern Yunnan Province in China, all the way to western Thailand. Introduced populations also exist in Australia the United States and Sri Lanka.
It gets its name from the hog-like manner in which it runs through the forests with its head hung low so that it can duck under obstacles instead of leaping over them like most other deer. Cover is taken as soon as it is feasible. During flight, the tail is held erect, showing the white underside.
Physiology
A mature hog deer stag stands about 70 cm at the shoulder and weighs approximately 50 kg while hinds are much smaller, standing about 61 cm and weighing in the vicinity of 30 kg. They are very solidly built with a long body and relatively short legs and the line of the back slopes upward from the shoulders to a high rump. The ears are rounded; older animals tend to become light coloured in the face and neck.
The Indian Hog Deer's coat is quite thick and generally a uniform dark-brown in winter except for the underparts of the body and legs which are lighter in colour. During late spring, the change to a summer coat of rich reddish brown commences although this may vary between individuals. Many hog deer show a dark dorsal stripe extending from the head down the back of the neck and along the spine. In summer, there is usually a uniform row of light-coloured spots along either side of the dorsal stripe from the shoulders to the rump. The tail is fairly short and brown but tipped with white. The underside of the tail is white and the deer can fan the white hairs out in a distinctive alarm display.
Indian hog deer have preorbital glands on the face just below the eyes and metatarsal glands located high on the side of the rear legs. Pedal glands are located between the cleaves or toes of the hind hooves.
The antler of a mature hog deer stag is typically three tined-brow tine with solid main beam terminating in inner and outer top tines. However, antlers with more points are not uncommon. The distinctive features of typical hog deer antlers are the acute angle between the brow tine and main beam and the fact that the inner tops tend to be short and angle back from the main beam and across towards the opposite antler.
Behaviour
This species of deer are gregarious only when conditions are favorable and do not form a "unit" at these times, fleeing in different directions rather than in a herd. When alarmed, hog deer make a whistling vocalization or a warning bark. Home ranges vary widely in size, but average about 0.70 km². Males are aggressive, and may become territorial at low population densities, marking the boundaries with glandular secretions. During the rut, males gather in open meadows, pawing the ground during antagonistic encounters. Harems are not created, with males courting and defending a single female at any given time. Unlike many other deer species, hog deer do not have a rutting call. Population densities may be as low as 0.1 animals per square kilometer in riverine valleys, rising to over 19 individuals per square kilometer in grassy flood plains.
Predators
Predators include tigers, leopards, dholes and sometimes the Burmese python.
Relatives
There are two separate but similar island hog deer species: The Bawean deer (H. kuhlii) of Bawean Island in Indonesia, and the Calamian deer (H. calamianensis) of the Calamian Islands in the Philippines that inhabit moist or dry tropical deciduous forest environments. Unlike the best known western populations of the hog deer (A. porcinus), their fawns are not spotted at birth. However, the eastern populations (perhaps equalling the subspecies A. p. annamiticus) of the hog deer also have unspotted fawn. The two island hog deer may be remnants of a widespread population of hog deer that at one time were connected to the hog deer populations of mainland Southeast Asia and inhabited vast areas of the Sunda Shelf during times of lower ocean levels.
Traditionally there have been two classified subspecies of hog deer: Indian hog deer (Hyelaphus porcinus porcinus) and the Indochinese hog deer (Hyelaphus porcinus annamiticus). However recent morphological studies indicate they are better off as two separate species.

6 Nehru's Controversial Decisions
Nehru's Controversial Decisions. Assessing Jawaharlal Nehru's impact as Prime Minister is subject to varied perspectives.
Accusations against Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, often center around six controversial decisions or actions. While interpretations vary, critics commonly point to the following aspects 6 Nehru's Controversial Decisions:
1. Kashmir Issue:
Nehru's handling of the Kashmir issue, especially his decision to seek the intervention of the United Nations, is criticized. Some argue that it led to a prolonged and complex dispute. Jawaharlal Nehru faced a highly controversial situation with the accession of Kashmir to India in 1947, amidst an invasion by Pakistani-backed tribal raiders. Despite a personal attachment to Kashmir, following Lord Mountbatten's suggestion, Nehru opted to involve the United Nations rather than take immediate military action. He pledged a plebiscite for Kashmir's people, a promise that was never fulfilled. This decision led to the division of Kashmir between India and Pakistan, sparking a long-standing conflict with significant human and diplomatic costs. Critics argue for a more decisive stance to secure the entire region, while supporters maintain that Nehru prioritized peace and democracy.
2. The Socialist Path:
Socialist ideals and a fondness for the Soviet model shaped Nehru's economic strategies. He prioritized state control and planning, imposing strict regulations on the private sector, and neglecting agriculture and social sectors. His import-substitution policy hindered foreign trade. These measures resulted in low growth, high inflation, persistent poverty, and corruption. Critics argue he stifled entrepreneurial spirit, while supporters maintain he aimed for a self-reliant and egalitarian society.
3. China Policy:
The border dispute with China and the war of 1962 are seen by critics as a failure of Nehru's foreign policy. Accusations range from diplomatic miscalculations to inadequate military preparedness. Nehru's foreign policy centered on non-alignment, fostering friendly ties, especially with newly independent nations in Asia and Africa. He aimed for a special bond with China, as seen in the slogan "Hindi-Chini bhai bhai" (Indians and Chinese are brothers). Despite warnings about China's expansionist agenda, he did not respond effectively to their actions, leading to the 1962 war and India's defeat. Critics argue he was naive, while supporters view him as a visionary peacemaker.
4. Political Approach:
Nehru's political approach, including his management of political dissent and handling of internal conflicts, has been questioned. The declaration of Emergency in 1975 during the tenure of his daughter, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, is also linked to the political legacy of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Nehru faces accusations of fostering dynastic politics and nepotism in India. He prepared his daughter, Indira Gandhi, as his successor, appointing her as the president of the Congress party in 1959. He prioritized loyalists and relatives over merit in key positions, sidelining figures like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, C. Rajagopalachari, Rajendra Prasad, and Subhas Chandra Bose. The absence of a robust second line of leadership in both party and government is also noted. Critics argue that this undermined democratic and meritocratic values, while supporters assert it was a matter of trust and empowerment within his circle.
Nehru faces criticism for his policy of prioritizing minorities, especially Muslims, potentially at the expense of the Hindu majority. He backed separate electorates and reservations for Muslims pre-independence, contributing to India's partition. His opposition to a uniform civil code, aimed at ensuring equal rights for all citizens, irrespective of religion, and his support for the Muslim Personal Law, perceived as discriminatory against Muslim women, are notable points of contention. Critics argue bias against Hindus, while supporters maintain his stance was rooted in secularism and tolerance.
5. Defense Policy:
The perception that Nehru's defense policies were inadequate, especially during the Indo-China war, has been criticized. Some claim that stronger military preparedness could have averted the conflict. Nehru is criticized for neglecting the defense and security of the nation. His lack of emphasis on modernizing and expanding the armed forces, insufficient investment in nuclear and missile technology, and inadequate attention to security threats from neighboring countries, particularly China and Pakistan, are pointed out. The absence of a robust intelligence network and a clear security doctrine, coupled with neglecting separatist and extremist movements, like the Naga insurgency, Dravidian movement, and Naxalite uprising, is also cited. Critics argue he was weak in protecting the country, while supporters maintain his approach was progressive and peace-oriented.
6. Language Policy:
The decision on the choice of Hindi as the sole official language faced strong opposition, particularly in the southern states, leading to tensions and protests. Eventually, a more inclusive language policy was adopted. 6 Nehru's Controversial Decisions

Food Extrusion Market to Record Steady Growth by 2026
The global food extrusion market is estimated to be valued at USD 73.1 billion in 2021. It is projected to reach USD 99.7 billion by 2026, recording a CAGR of 6.4% during the forecast period. The demand for ready-to-Eat (RTE) snack foods is growing due to their convenience, nutrition value, attractive appearance, taste, and texture. Cereal-based extruded snacks are the most commonly consumed snacks. Extruders blend diverse ingredients to develop novel snack foods. The quality of the final product depends on the processing conditions used during extrusion, which include the composition of the raw materials, feed moisture, barrel temperature, screw speed, and screw configuration.

Drivers: Increase in demand for processed product types
The food extrusion market is primarily driven by the growth of the processed food industry. The changing lifestyles and high disposable incomes of the population have led to an increased demand for ready-to-eat product types as they help save time and effort. Additionally, the demand for processed product types from the urban population of developing economies is expected to subsequently drive the demand for food extrusion equipment. The rising per capita income and the increasing trend of snacking between meals are also fueling the demand for extruded product types. Consumer preferences in emerging economies such as China, India, Brazil, and the Middle East have gradually transitioned from traditional homemade breakfasts and snacking meals to ready-to-eat products over the last couple of decades.
Restraints: Volatility of raw material prices
Changes in climatic conditions across the globe have reduced the production of raw materials, such as potatoes, corn, and tapioca. Snack pellet manufacturers suffer a shortage of raw material supply and are unable to meet the rising demand. Due to the volatility factor, the prices of other raw materials, such as wheat and vegetable oil, vary by more than 40%, along with the fluctuation of natural gas by more than 25%. In addition to this, the high price of snack pellet ingredients, such as binding agents and savory flavors, also act as a restraint. Due to a hike in the pricing of raw materials used for snack pellets, manufacturers are experiencing a declining trend in their profit margins.

Single screw extruder has uniform expansion of raw materials
A single screw extruder consists of a live bin, feeding screw, preconditioning cylinder, extruder barrel, die, and knife. It uses one single screw in the barrel of the extruder to transport and shape multiple ingredients into a uniform product type by forcing the ingredient mix through a shaped die to produce a uniform shape. Single screw extruders typically consist of three zones: feeding zone, kneading zone, and the cooling zone. In contrast to twin screw extruders, single screw extruders have poor mixing ability, owing to which the materials are required to be pre-mixed or preconditioned.
The European region dominated the food extrusion market.
The presence of a developed snack food market offers the European food extrusion market a prominent consumer base with opportunistic growth prospects. The growth of the food industry in this region is estimated to be driven by increasing consumption of processed product types in the Eastern & Southeastern European countries. Increasing consumption of snack product types in this region has also compelled manufacturers to source extruded snack products from other parts of the world for an uninterrupted supply of raw materials, as domestic production is not sufficient to meet the demand from the food industry of Europe.
