Custom Kanto Dex Collection
Page #6 ~ #046 - 54
#1 Card of the Page
Persian ~ Burning Shadows 102/147 ~ Sekio
Sekio is one of my favorite artists (I have a complete artist's collection for them, and will do a series of posts on their cards eventually). They are great at drawing all the standard creatures, and this cat is an excellent example. This framing feels very nature documentary-y. It's either stalking something, or mid attack bounce. It's hard to tell with this swift friend. Overall... nice kitty.
BEST QUALITY: The precision curves and sleek moves of this beast. Perfectly proportioned for maximum catness. See diagram below.
About This Series of Posts:
This collection started when I wanted to have a set of the original 151 Pokemon. However, getting the cards with their first appearances would cost a lot of money. I decided to make a set of the original 151, made out of my favorites of the cheaper options available (though I did allow myself to splurge a few times on ones I really wanted).
Each post features photos of one page of the collection, an impulsively chosen favorite card of the page, a detail on that card, and general writing on the contents of the photos.

Pokemon Card of the Day #2562: Guzma (Burning Shadows)
Forcing a switch to whatever Pokemon you wanted the opponent to be stuck with was very strong. When it showed up in Item (or, in the old days, Trainer) form, such as with Gust of Wind or the pre-errata Pokemon Catcher, it was arguably too strong. Attaching that to a Supporter was a way to balance that a bit, as Supporters were strong and using this prevented access to another good effect on that turn.
And yet, Guzma was still very good. It let you switch 1 of the opponent’s Benched Pokemon with their Active Pokemon, but with another catch: you also had to switch your Active Pokemon with 1 of your own Benched Pokemon. You got to choose which Pokemon each player used, and that meant that having any Pokemon that could retreat for free on the Bench, whether it was with help from Abilities, Pokemon Tools, or just naturally, could let you pick the match-up you wanted. This was not hard to pull off, and Guzma could even be used in a desperate spot for that switching effect. While using a turn’s Supporter meant that you needed to time it well, Guzma was one of the most important cards in its time and was found in the majority of decks until just before it rotated out. It was only after the release of Custom Catcher in Lost Thunder that Guzma finally faced the kind of competition that made it less common, and even then it was still good.

Burning Shadows: the Devils of London
Courteous, rapacious, merciless, beguiling. The emissaries of Hell are here for one purpose: souls. Well, and also perhaps the company, the sights and a little chamber-music.
→ Attend a lecture at the Brass Embassy
Hell sponsors public events to educate Londoners on the advantages of soullessness...
"Souls, they say, exalt the body upwards..."
"...but there are other buoyant substances, also. Swamp gas, for instance. The breath of the Wax-Wind. When we see the soul in its proper company, is it so very enviable?"
Afterwards, there is sherry. An amber-eyed devil pumps your hand and avidly praises your open-mindedness.
→ Accept a gift from an Overly Eager Admirer
If you leave your admirer's invitation unanswered, you're guaranteed to have one at the exact same time tomorrow.
→ Take lunch at Dante's Grill
They don't find a table for just anyone. But it's a good place to pick up snippets of infernal knowledge.
A working lunch
Dante's Grill serves a suspiciously excellent devilled kidney. Just keep telling yourself that it came from a pig, and keep your ears open as you eat. Secret knowledge surrounds you.
→ Learn a letter in one of Hell's alphabets
The devils assure you that this alphabet is one of the sorts that isn't immediately fatal.
A man of letters
The devils say that one could divine the nature of creation from these symbols. But then, devils say a lot of things.
→ Buy a Brass Embassy Guest Room from your Infernal friends
If you're very friendly with a certain sort of devil, and you're not afraid to show it, you might be able to purchase a Brass Embassy Guest Room for less than the Bazaar price.
→ A quiet chat over sherry and souls
The Infernal Sommelier has a request for you.
→ Choose Trickster as your Profession
"You're trouble. No, no, sit down, don't worry, we like that. We wanted you to meet someone. Hubert, step forward."
→ An offering
Hell is only interested in one thing. They'll buy from anyone, but if you want to forge a lasting relationship they'll need to see you as an investment.
→ Rescue a certain soul from the Brass Embassy
Not this one. They can't have it.
→ Begin 'A Trade in Souls' – a substantial story
Uncover the wicked toils of the soul trade as you pursue one of London's most notorious spirifers! Will you become a shepherd of souls, or use what you learn to turn a profit?
→ Solving a case: seek knowledge from your infernal contacts
Risky, unpredictable, sometimes effective.
"Come closer – "
" – and I will speak to you. Of this picaresque quest of yours, certainly. But of the Snarled Roads, too, of the Mint of Souls, of the Three Kings and their lenses, of the Exiles. Come closer..."
"Is that all?"
"Then let us speak of the place the cobblestones are damp without rain, and the One who watches there. Listen – "

The beasts, sealed away, punching the air while Y/N cookie accepts Elder Faerie’s proposal and the wedding after.
Today is not a good day for the Beasts
You tell him that you do. That you wished to be married to him, now and forever.
The faerie priest asks if Elder Faerie Cookie will do the same.
“I do. Truly, I want nothing more then to be by your side, through the darkest of hours and the brightest of peaks. You, the wonderful cookie who helped saved the Silver Kingdom. And me, the guardian of the silver tree. Together, we may watch over this land as King and King/Queen.”
Shadow Milk Cookie is seething. Hell, all of the Beasts were as they watched from their prisons.
“HOW?! MY PLAN WAS PERFECT! HE…ALL OF THEM WERE SUPPOSED TO LOSE!”
Red Spice Cookie, from within their prison, is trying with all his might to break free. Rage is all he could feel, it feels like his own dough is burning from the sight…
Mystic Flour Cookie sighed solemnly. It looked like Shadow Milk Cookie had failed to convert you fully, a shame that you saw significance in these lesser cookies. Why settle for less? It was beneath a cookie like you.
Cut them all down. That was the plan Silent Salt could conjure up in their head. Destroy every single cookie in their way, reduce them to bits. Remind them why there can only be few cookies that could protect you and it would certainly not be Elder Faerie Cookie…
The other Beasts should be lucky they don’t share a prison with Eternal Sugar Cookie, who’s currently in emotional agony as she struggles to brute force her way out of her prison. She has to watch the brightest light she’s seen getting married right before her eyes. It made her want nothing more then to BURN THE WHOLE KINGDOM DOWN weep into her hands, unable to think of anything else but to MUTILATE ALL OF THEM think of you and what could’ve been…
