Watching someone stream the new Dead by Daylight chapter and everyone is saying how they love the new goth character, Sable Ward’s, look. The streamer decides to put on goth music and chooses Spellbound by Siouxsie and the Banshees:
He said how it sounds “country” and “doesn’t sound very gothy to me.” AND PEOPLE WERE AGREEING WITH HIM! Needless to say, I was fucking fuming. (/lh)
It hurt a lot. I know my bio says I’m scemo, but I’m also goth (if you couldn’t tell by all the posts I've reblogged and made; I’m in a lot of alt groups in general, but mainly identify with scene and emo :P). I was crying. Shaking, even, from the blatant DISRESPECT people had for actual goth stuff 😡 (/lh, again… honestly, this tone indicator applies to everything I’ve said prior 😂)
(But srsly: it's pretty annoying when people say how they like goth stuff and then… don’t like goth stuff. You’d think the fucking horror community would understand, but no, they were expecting MCR 🤦 I even explained the music was trad goth. Hell, one of this character’s few alt outfits IS BASED ON TRAD GOTH OUTFITS FROM THE 70s AND 80s 😂)
Any-whose… respect the bats! 🦇
Tumblr media
This is the alt outfit I’m talking about btw… AND THE STREAMER EVEN HAD THE HAIR AND A RECOLOR OF THE TOP 😭😂

Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to...
Random Headcannons about Specfic Character's Heartless Stemming from an AU I have Never Posted About!
(This is under the notion that, for some inexplicable reason, a special Heartless is capable of amplifying any darkness found within someone's heart, so that those with even a little bit of darkness would still create a strong Heartless. Also none of them are explicitly darklings because I like myself some symbolic, abstract monster designs.)
*taps mic*
Sora (who is here and alive btw) has those eldritch horror tentacles he had in that one section of Xehanort's boss fight sprouting out of his back. I just think they're neat.
Roxas is very nobody-like, surprisingly. It makes sense once you consider the fact that replica bodies can't create nobodies. Xion is in the same boat, their bodies are kinda just layin there.
Aqua is constantly melting and dissolving into puddles on the floor, appearing as a large spot of black-blue. She can also move incredibly fast like this. However, it also seems to cause her Heartless... pain.
Lea is really spiky. And on fire, but that was obvious. One noticeable thing is the tear tracks constantly running down his face, which never seem to stop.
Riku is a large bat-dragon-thing. He also has shackles and broken chains on his ankles and wrists. The chains have been mending themselves, however. Whenever he notices, he attacked them relentlessly until they appear beyond repair. The cycle begins anew afterward.
Terra obviously has some elements of the Guardian in his design, but just making him the Guardian again sounds boring to me so obviously I need to give him more trauma.
Kairi evades becomign a hearless due to her heart having no darkness, but she just can’t get what she did for Sora at the end of KH1 work for any of them, and this just makes her feel even more useless.
Xion is a puppet, literally. Her final boss form from the end of Days gets a darker recolor while being held up by strings connected to one of those wooden-puppet-control-thingies. Roxas doesn't like to look at her.
Riku is technically a Heartless and a Nightmare? None of them are Emblem Heartless but he's got the Nightmare symbol between his wings.
Lea is the second largest of the bunch, and has two chakram-looking things circling him at all times. Xion and Roxas fit neatly under him, and like to hide under there.
Aqua gets as much trauma as Terra because the Wayfinder Trio is my favorite so I put them through pain. Her color scheme is very Anti-Aqua :)
Sora is very fast, and he skitters around like a cat. He is also very spiky.
Ven may not of had his heart dragged out of him by the weird heartless, but he is definitely not having a good time. He didn't even recognize Terra and Aqua.... at first. (I swear I love the Wayfinder Trio with all of my heart)
Roxas resembles a... weasel? Ferret? Something like that; no one can put a finger on it. He also has samurai swords, because yes.
Terra is seemingly made up of rock and soil, and it is primarily held together by the bandages left behind from his Guardian form. He is also the largest out of all of them, a little over half the size of that one really big KH2 Heartless boss in the Pridelands. (I can't remember it's name.)
All of the Seasalt Trio Heartless have their number somewhere on their bodies (XIII, XIV, etc.), the Wayfinder Trio Heartless have thier armor represented in some fashion, and the Destiny Trio all have a paupo fruit inscribed on themselves somewhere.
And Isa (who dodged the entire encounter by not being a keyboard wielder) is just trying to keep Ven and Kairi safe after all of this shit goes down. He doesn't have the time or the energy to get into how he is feeling right now (and boy howdy, is it nothing good). After all, the three of them were...
...Those that Remain.

Me: Oh yeah, aliens are also a thing in the Sims...eh, well, that’s not really my cup of tea; I probably won’t do anything with them
Sims: Oh hey btw when you make an alien Sim you can make both their alien form as well as a human disguise form
Me: ...
...
...
...OK FINE TIME TO MAKE AJA AND KREL LET’S GOOOOO
So their human forms turned out to be pretty straightforward. I think they came out pretty decent nearly right off the bat! :)
Tumblr media
Their Akiridion forms, on the other hand...those were tricky, as they involved a lot of custom content. And when I say custom content I mean literally MADE BY ME. ^^” I hand-altered pretty much every part of their Akiridion forms in some way or other.
Their hair is still a default EA mesh, but I wasn’t satisfied with the default color swatches so I had to go in and custom-recolor them.
I do have some CC I downloaded a while ago for Akiridion eyes, but for some reason custom eye colors don’t show up as selectable swatches in my game despite being in my mods folder, so I had to make some of my own...in the “face paint” category rather than the “eye color” category. But hey it worked! So fyi for anyone interested, you CAN override eye colors with face paint; I’d recommend that route if you wanna make some custom eyes o3o
(theoretically you could also use this technique to have your Sim change eye color with each outfit, if you want!)
The clothes were the trickiest part. EA does have a glowing “alien suit” that’s pretty cool, but it only comes with green glow. At first I tried to just use that suit with a custom swatch for blue glow, which did actually work (looked a little rougher than the official swatch but was still functional, glow and all):
Tumblr media
(screenshot taken before fixing the eyes, obviously ^^”)
...but I still wasn’t quite satisfied with the overall aesthetic. It would be ok for an oc but didn’t really look enough like Aja and Krel to me. But what else could I do? I’m not good enough at modeling in Blender to create my own custom mesh for the outfits, and I couldn’t think of any EA full-body outfits that had the right shape I could recolor....
...UNLESS....
...what if I just painted it directly onto their skin as a “tattoo” like I do for custom fur patterns on the furry mod?!
This was a good start, but of course under normal circumstances Sims aren’t allowed to be “naked”; even if you remove all the clothes you can in CAS it’ll still give them non-removable underwear in its place. In order for the tattoo idea to work properly, I had to find a way around that as the game wouldn’t recognize the “tattoo” as clothes and try to make me put a different outfit on top of it.
So what I did was grab some skintight swimsuits and just...deleted the diffuse texture (as well as specular/shadow/etc maps), effectively rendering the swimsuit invisible in-game. So as far as the code is concerned, they are technically clothed...it’s just invisible so you can see under it without triggering the default underwear...and IT WORKED!!
Tumblr media
They’re not perfect, you can definitely see where I didn’t quite line up the UVs right, but I think it’s a pretty darn good start!
At the moment they’re using the exact same texture, based on Aja; I know Krel’s outfit design in the show is slightly different than his sister’s BUT I wasn’t sure if the technique would work and didn’t want to waste time making two separate nonfunctional textures, so I just used Aja’s as the test. Now that I know it works, though, I’ll go back and make a proper one for Krel later. For now they’ll just have to match haha.
Aja is also sporting @zaneida-and-sims4’s Angor Rot style legs, cuz I thought it was a bit closer to the show, even if it caused some more issues with the texture lining up. I tried to give them to Krel as well, but for some reason it wouldn’t show up as an option for him. Sorry Krel, you’ll have to stick with regular human legs. ^^; If it makes you feel better, they don’t work on Blinky either (I would be tempted to wonder if maybe they only work on females were it not for the fact that they DID work on NotEnrique...oh well).
I did also experiment with a mod that allowed for extra arms, HOWEVER the arms were basically just an accessory and didn’t actually have any animation on them. While they would cool in screenshots, in-game it just looked really distractingly stiff and awkward, so I ultimately opted for just two arms.
Varvatos Vex is not currently in the game; I MIGHT add him in later but if I do he’ll be a dog like Aarrrggh. We’ll see though.
So that’s that! I probably won’t play much from the perspective of this house directly, but I look forward to finding them out and about in the world... 👀

WILD ARMS 2 - Aguel Mine Shaft
MINES!  I know it’s got that good desolate American Wild West thing going on, but man are there are lot of stupid mines and caves in this early game run around.  We’re sent off the find two power crystal things to fuel some mystery macguffin (it’s a flying ship) and to get one of them we go, somewhat predictably, to the place where they mine the stuff.
The entire town is actually built around the mine, with the giant entrance at the center of a stripmine style hole in the ground and just a few houses and an inn built into the incline.  The usual item store, arms mechanic, magic shop, and Personal Skill station are all just one open air market tucked into a corner.  On the one hand it’s clearly an easy way to save time and effort on a small town, but it’s a neat bit of flavour that I really appreciate in the design.  Also, even if it’s just another pile of rocks, I do like that this is a strip mine to at least try and differentiate it from the Empathite mines, which were dug out of a mountain side, even though the end result is still the same basic look and feel.
It’s a really straight forward dungeon.  We fight a bunch of weird stuff...
Tumblr media
So here’s this Giant [Enemy] Crab.  (yeah, I know, that’s an old meme...) The Giant Crab is exactly what it says on the tin: It’s a crab, and it’s big, and for some reason it lives in this cave with no water in it.  It might have made more sense back in the Under Traffic, with it’s little underground lake area, but not here.  I have no idea what it is about JRPGs and cave crabs where there’s no water.  Heck, the island this mine is on is even specifically built with an elevated region at the center, so we know the mine is far from the coasts, and above sea level.
The Japanese name is actually Raid Scissors, which is kind of odd.  It doesn’t appear to be any taken from anything I can really find.  Searches on レイドシザース(re-i-do-shi-za-su) also return primarily Wild Arms related sites.  They use an attack called Crab Brains, where they spit a yellow cloud at the party.
I haven’t had the chance to check the original Japanese on the attack, but I wonder if this wasn’t a slight drift in translation from something like “crab innards” or “crab organs” or “crab guts.”  I only wonder because I know tomalley, aka Crab Fat (but it’s not actually fat*) is actually referred to as “Crab Mustard” back in my home town and the surrounding Delmarva area, due to the yellow coloration.  If so, the fact that the attack is yellow would actually be kind of a clever subtle detail to get right.
Tumblr media
*Fun Fact: Tomalley is an organ in shellfish like crab and lobster that processes impurities in their diet, effectively doing the job of a liver and a pancreas all in one.  For this reason, when eating whole shell crab, while they may be positioned relatively close to the body meat, please do not eat the crab mustard, as it retains many of the toxins that are responsible for shellfish poisoning, and in general it’s just made up of exclusively bad things.
Tumblr media
With them we also bump into Water Leaper, a recolor of the Gomorrah Toad.  Not gonna repeat myself too much, but again, water sources...
Despite the generic sounding name these guys are actually both another loan from Dungeons & Dragons, as has really just gotten to be my default guess for anything this game throws at me, but also taken from old Welsh folklore.   Llamhigyn Y Dwr are malevolent creatures said to menace fishermen out on the swamps of Wales; bat wings on a frog body with long stinger tipped tails.
That’s all.  It’s pretty straight forward, but again makes very little sense given the lack of any and all water in this man-made mine.
Tumblr media
Then we get Galeion...  They’re kinda creepy, all black and red-eyed recolors of the Gohm, from Lilka’s Millennium Puzzle prologue dungeon, and like the Gohm, I have no idea what I’m looking at...  The Japanese name reads ガルイオン(ga-re-i-o-n’) so the transliteration is about as accurate as one can expect, yet there were no leads on the name that I could find searching Galeion or Gareion; even searching in Japanese just lead to a bunch of Wild Arms specific results.  They couldn’t have just slapped syllables together with no basis though... right?  Like it name has to mean something, even if it’s not directly taken from an existing creature, yeah?
Weirder yet, it has an unusually large amount of HP and has a singular battle strategy where it attacks once and then uses the move Suicide.  If you’re curious enough to find a way to kill one of these quickly enough, you’ll be rewarded with a huge amount of exp.  (2500exp, compared to the Giant Crab and Water Leaper’s 90exp each)  Knowing it, like most bugs in Wild Arms, is weak to ice helps here.
Tumblr media
In Japanese the attack is actually called 蔭腹を詰める “Kagehara o tsumeru,” meaning “Stuff [full] Kagebara”... (btw this particular phrase ALSO returns nothing but Wild Arms results in search engines)  But the kanji for Kagehara are peculiar, because as far as I can tell that’s not a word???  I see it translated as “belly” by most translation engines, but as far as I can see that’s just the kanji 腹 and the engines are skipping over 蔭 all together.  Individually the two mean 蔭:Shadow and 腹:Belly respectively.  蔭腹 seems to produce more results in Chinese than in Japanese, but the results are varied and seemingly unrelated, and I don’t know enough Chinese to really parse the content of those searches into anything meaningful.
So, yeah... a mystery...
Tumblr media
We also get Leprechauns!  I don’t think I have to explain the basic idea but there are a few things of note.
Classically the “pot of gold” that looks like a cauldron is actually a corruption of a “treasure-crock” which were customarily buried for safe keeping in times of war.  When a territory was captured in the war, families’ wealth might be kept safe where a looting occupying force couldn’t find it, hence a Leprechaun’s unique ability to find them; else a returning soldier might find that his treasure-crock was no so well hidden and blame the loss on a Leprechaun.  Maybe it’s digging up the treasure crocks that places them here in the underground.  Appropriately they do give out some hefty pay upon defeat.
Tumblr media
They also have a special ability that passively locks arms so long as there’s a Leprechaun on the battle field.  It’s an odd thing to put in as I can’t find much reason for it, save that the Leprechaun both here and in the original Wild Arms (seen on the far left, above) are recolors of the Gremlin monster, which is classically known to meddle with machinery.  The previous model also carried around a giant wrench, making the machine jamming ability a little more sensible; here we just have the lightning bolt, and it does use electric magic, as well as an ability that targets the whole party with Confusion.  But I don’t have any theories on the blue, spikey headed, tentacle armed unicorn look...
As far as any unifying features of the dungeon as a whole... Clearly the mines aren’t exactly hospitable, but I like the idea that the presence of the Leprechauns is an active hindrance to the miners, as it would disallow them from using any kind of more advanced equipment.  Also, it’s a bit of a stretch, but the Galeion’s only move apparently being to “stuff [their] belly” at face value would mean they’re eating (the implication of death might be accidental, as most fleeing enemies also do so with an animation similar to death) so in the context of the mines, they might be eating the Aguelite mineral?  The two together make for a reasonable justification as to why we’ve been sent to collect a mineral that apparently has a regular working mining economy built around it, instead of just having it bought and shipped to us by more mundane means.
