She’d neglected to close out the file she’d been looking through, however - the first thing that had popped up when she’d searched ‘Doctor’ was a file on a neurologist and her cardiologist husband. Possibly, not the right universe. Not quite yet. 

“You’re probably wonderin’ what I’m doing at your computer.” Hands rose into the air and she sighed, unaware of the beautiful irony of what she said next, given the Buy More store directly above her head. “S’pose you wouldn’t believe I’m IT?“

Chuck exchanged a stiff wave with Casey and the new agent... if one could say that a wave was exchanged when it was entirely one sided. Forrest leaned over to whisper something in Casey’s ear and nodded him into his apartment. They disappeared inside and Chuck, fumbling with his keys, did the same. One final glance was cast over his shoulder, back at the now closed door, to ensure they were gone, but he’d been involved with spies for long enough to know that, if they wanted to watch him unnoticed, they were probably already doing so already. 

Dropping his keys into the bowl by the door, and heading through the apartment, plastic Large Mart bag crinkling in his hand, Chuck found Sarah in their room. “So,” he said, setting the bag on the desk and leaning over for a quick kiss, “funny -” he quickly shut the door, “- funny thing happened at work today. Casey has a girlfriend. Well... technically she’s not his girlfriend, that’s her cover - she’s my new handler. Although, they did seem to hit it off. Oh, uh, and I picked you up a little present but - but that’s a whole different story.” It was chocolate, and the story was only that Agent Forrest had insisted on accompanying him - protocol, due to the intense density of people in your average Large Mart (and she hadn’t appreciated his joke about the government wasting resources on drafting Large Mart related protocols) - and then criticized his chocolate selection. Repeatedly.

Claire normally dealt with her night terrors on her own - she’d stare up at the ceiling in silence until she finally dozed back off to sleep.  In the beginning of her career she tried calming herself down, but she later learned that she would never stop being caught in life threatening experiences.  They got easier to handle, in the moment, but that didn’t change her sleepless nights.  So, she saw the opportunity and crawled in beside Sarah, and she sighed.  “Not even if I tried.”

Mary vs the Bracelet

Mary stood in the hallway, waiting. You learned to be good at that, as a spy. Waiting for your target to slip up, waiting for a mark to make an appearance, waiting for your son to come out of surgery. The smell of disinfectants, of blood and pain, filled the air. Hospitals always smelled like bases, she thought - recycled air and cleansers covering up the stench of something vulgar. 

The clock clicked.

A pair of doors opened, a metal barred bed rolled through them, and Mary felt a bit of dread fade from her heart at the sight of her son’s face, though unconscious, with some color in it. His bandaged chest rose and fell gently. Falling into step behind his nurses, she followed him to a side room... and came to a stop. 

Sarah was still here. She was pregnant. And Mary had been away too long.

“Sarah,“ she said quietly, staying by the doorway and watching as the nurses hooked Chuck up to monitors. They’d not been able to give her much information about what had happened to him - she had an alert set up for his name, and it had been tripped when he was admitted - and digging into it had felt more like being a spy than a mother. From the look of Sarah, however, she’d been part of whatever had happened. “Are you alright?“
