Sorry if this blog has been super quiet as of late. It's the only time the queue has dried up since I made it.
I've kinda struggled watching Stardom as of late, with everything going on, so I'm not looking to jump properly back in until the contract stuff is sorted out.
It's a shame when your main fuel of serotonin turns into something that Does Not Spark Joy, but hopefully after this break I'll be able to come back to it afresh and enjoy it as much as I used to.
Or maybe I'll take more time. Trying to stay up to date during this recent Bad Period was kind of a chore, and I hated the thing I loved becoming that.
So don't worry, this blog isn't dead. There'll be some reposts now and again to tide me over until I come back in full force :)
Believe today, shine tomorrow, you lovely people :)

I think Goncharov posting is gonna die out quickly not becuz it doesnt have staying power, but because as more people get involved its gonna get to messy. So far weve all sort of agreed on basic facts and have avoided getting detailed enough that no popular posts have blatantly contradicted each other.
But that cant last forever, and I think itll kill the vibe fast, unfortunately.
However, we can avoid this! Some brave soul just has to write up The definitive outline, and save the meme.
I mean, not me, because thst would be insane. But someone.

by the way, for anyone curious the original Goncharov shoe seems to be a corruption of this poster for the Scorsese produced, Matteo Garrone directed movie Gomorrah (2008)

If I may break kayfabe for a moment: someone should write a long post red-pilling Goncharov. Because if it is a real Scorsese movie, then there will certainly be regressive men-children who are mad that us Tumblrinas took all the perfectly platonic same-sex friendships in the movie and made them into woke lesbian shit.
I started one myself but then my Mom walked in and now I'm not allowed to use the computer for anything but submitting resumes.

figured id put this out there because ive seen a few people mention inaccuracies in goncharov articles but. if you see an error in an article, you can literally just email the author. especially if they're a professional journalist, they'll probably appreciate it and correct it. and if you find a good article, you can also let the author know!

[Haruno Higashikata anon]
Addcfgvshgvddsfbjd sorry, that might have been you playing along with the joke but Haruno Higashikata is not Haruno Shiobana (aka Giorno), it's a separate entity that the Jojolion fans on twitter made up and they basically had their own "um Haruno carried part 8 on his shoulders and if you don't remember him, clearly you're a speedreader, smh smh" jokes, like tumblr with Goncharov right now
Though I do love your impromptu comparison of Vento Aureo to Goncharov. This is certainly an angle I've overlooked while watching the movie 👀
[[No worries anon!!! I knew Haruno Higashikata was a jojolion meme, and while I didn't know all his fanonical lore as I haven't read p8 yet, I definitely figured he was another of those Part 7-8 characters who is a remix/reimagining of a previous character, a-la johnny : jonathan and gappy : part 4 josuke! I'm riffing on that idea <3 thank you for the info tho, I appreciate the context and the clarification!]]

I’m not usually one to include tags on tumblr because I use the fast reblog option on mobile, but I’ve tried to be pretty diligent about goncharov-posting as unreality for accessibility reasons to those who might live with delusional thinking. I think there’s nothing wrong about breaking kayfabe to be accessible.

Vince McMahon is one of the architects — perhaps the architect — of modern professional wrestling. The longtime owner and chief creative authority of World Wrestling Entertainment, he began his career as a commentator for his father's company — then known as World Wide Wrestling Foundation — in the late 60s before purchasing it in the early 1980s. From there, he turned the business into a virtual monopoly, becoming a billionaire.
To the uninitiated, McMahon might seem like a niche figure. But under his tenure, the WWE survived the revelation that matches were scripted — not legitimate sporting competitions, but "sports entertainment" — and became a cultural juggernaut in the 1990s and early 2000s, glorying in racial and sexual stereotypes and aggressive hypermasculinity. Not content to manage his empire from behind the scenes, McMahon placed himself front and center in televised shows, generally playing a villainous caricature of himself — his rubber face contorting into pop-eyed stares, imperious sneers, and savage snarls.
As journalist Abraham Josephine Riesman argues in her upcoming book Ringmaster: Vince McMahon and the Unmaking of America, McMahon is a quintessentially American hustler — one whose machinations have contributed to the injection of a particular flavor of carnival unreality into American life, sped along by the election of his longtime friend, Donald Trump. McMahon, Riesman argues, found in the rough and tumble hypocrisy of professional wrestling a kind of pop-culture gnosis that has expanded to take over the discourse. In doing so, he opened the portal to our modern post-truth age — the doorway that has sucked in people of all political stripes and savviness.
Riesman is a journalist and the author of True Believer, a biography of Stan Lee, and several years' worth of articles on comics and pop culture for New York Magazine. This week on Heat Death, we caught up with Riesman for a wide-ranging conversation about the corrosive effects of knowing unreality, camp masculinity, wrestling slang, the fascist embrace of "kayfabe," and more.

But this isn't a house by writing bumper stickers
It's somethin' you stick it and bump, like a heroin needle
See the shit in the trunk is apparently lethal
That y'all live to distrupt like American leaders
I'm gonna pull quick from the category
I run bullshit like a matador, see?

Rest in Peace Bray Wyatt. Gosh, what a terrible tragedy. Only earlier this month there was talk of him being cleared. Fucking heck I just
Bray Wyatt was one of the most creative minds in wrestling, if not THE most creative mind. I remember when the Firefly Funhouse came out, I was enthralled. I remember forcing all my non wrestling friends to watch it like "See! Look how interesting and innovative and creative this thing I love can be!"
And yeah, as with all things in wrestling, the character of The Fiend had some booking missteps. But GOSH, that debut. Insane.
And the Firefly Funhouse match with John Cena might be one of the best matches of the modern era. Certainly the most creative (and meta). Maybe that was the ONLY good thing during pandemic crowdless wrestling.
And his cult leader gimmick was brilliant, it had so much potential, because Bray Wyatt was a creative force of nature. Yeah, that gimmick had its legs cut out from under it too, but don't let that take anything away from his incredible Bray's character with was across all of his gimmicks.
Constantly reinventing himself to keep things fresh, constantly pushing the boundaries of what wrestling can be as a storytelling artform, and constantly amazing both in and out of the ring - Bray Wyatt will never be forgotten.
God rest your soul, Bray. Give Brodie a hug from all of us.

not to post like it’s still 2022 but how did nobody notice that goncharov was a Macbeth adaptation???
like. we’ve got our troubled protag (macbeth/goncharov) whose ambitious wife (lady mac/katya) pressures him into clawing his way to the top of a violent power structure (scotland’s monarchy/the italian mafia). he ends up ordering the death of a former friend because said friend realizes what he’s done (sending assassins after banquo/sending ice pick joe after mario, but the latter has more emotional depth since joe and mario were friends). valery takes on the role of the witches by supplying goncharov with ominous warnings and hinting that all is preordained as he tries to bring goncharov to justice. in reaction, goncharov attempts to destroy potential threats (sending ice pick after andrey and sofia, who survive because of joe’s failure to go through with it and subsequent death in the church scene), paralleling the assassination of the macduff family. it’s also when we get that sweet gunfight amid the historical ruins, but that’s not important rn. when katya learns that goncharov tried to have sofia killed, she breaks down and tries to shoot him on the bridge scene (“if you loved me you wouldn’t have missed” etc etc) before almost throwing herself over the edge, bringing to mind lady macbeth’s mental collapse and subsequent suicide. instead of birnam wood coming to dunsinane, we get the boat scene. when goncharov asked valery why he was so determined to bring him back to russia to be prosecuted instead of just killing him, valery told goncharov “you’re untouchable so long as you’re on Italian soil” and the boat isn’t technically on Italian soil. andrey and goncharov have their stand-off at the ship’s wheel, symbolizing their fight for control over the system. meanwhile, sofia and katya make their escape, getting the chance to survive and leave the system of violence that killed their shakespearean counterparts. goncharov doesn’t know that katya is still alive, so his speech winding up his pocketwatch when he’s talking about how her time ran out and how nothing could stop the clocks? that was his “tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow” moment! when andrey shoots goncharov and DOESN’T MISS, it’s not just gay, it’s his “man of no woman born” parallel. he managed to do what nobody else could. but this movie has no malcolm character to bring the system back to normal and take the throne/lead the mafia. it’s just andrey at the wheel. and the deafening ticking of goncharov’s pocketwatch, laying face-open in the pool of blood, before it runs out of time and winds down for good.
