Am I the only person in the Rope (1948) fandom whose headcanon is that Brandon actually treats Phillip well? I don’t mean during the movie, but I’d like to think on the average day when they’re not plotting, committing, and hiding a murder, that Brandon and Phillip don’t act in such extremes all the time.

I feel like we get some glimpses of their everyday relationship. Nobody talks about the fact that Brandon had arranged a piano debut for Phillip and is driving him to his mother’s house to stay there and practice. Or how he offers to take Phillip on a trip wherever he’d like to go after Phillip has started to snap on him.

I just get the sense in their dynamic that Phillip is totally devoted to Brandon and obviously the submissive one, but Brandon absolutely adores Phillip and would do and probably does do quite a lot for him. He can’t say enough how superior they both are. Brandon also seems so easily affected by what Phillip says and thinks about him. When Phillip says he’s always been frightened of Brandon, Brandon looks like he could cry, until Phillip says it’s part of his charm, and then Brandon totally melts. Brandon then brings it up again later and looks elated when Phillip says Brandon astounds him.

I just like to think that their dynamic maybe isn’t as fucked up on a normal day and that they really do love each other 🤷🏻‍♀️

Phillip is an alcoholic and an absolute wet cat of a man and Brandon is a pretentious asshole with a god complex. They're a disaster gay couple from the 1940s who hosted a dinner party over the corpse of a friend they killed, and invited his whole family to the party. They planned to go on a vacation together after they'd finished doing their murder. They're in love, they're divorced, they're married, they hate each other and most importantly they killed a man by strangling him while staring homoerotically into each other's eyes. 

For Mick Rory and Leonard Snart:

The only supervillains on that show that understood the assignment. Thieves with a flare and loyal only to eachother. Eventually become anti heroes on legends of tomorrow but I liked them best as villains. The best part of both shows. Over the top and committed to the theme for the vibes. Puns and crime.

This question is, is it ever justified to torture an individual to save the lives of many? And if the answer is yes, how far can you go? This issue is indeed a very sensitive subject and I think it takes guts for any filmmaker to put it out there in the open like Gregor Jordan did. Add to that the clever fact that he doesn’t actually make a choice, but rather lets the audience decide on whatever they want to think and feel, and you have a pretty gutsy and controversial concept. In a nutshell, this film is about a man of American descent who has become a Muslim and has now, as an act of terrorism, planted 3 nuclear bombs in 3 major American cities which will go off in four days. Screenwriter Peter Woodward made some very tactical decisions considering the characters in the story. They are all somewhat stereotypical, but this is no bother because they’re all there for a reason. Carrie-Anne Moss, as an FBI investigator, represents the conscience, the sensitivity and the struggle to make the right decision. Samuel L. Jackson is her polar opposite; the brutal, rational, stone cold “interrogator” who does what he does because he’s the only one who can and willing to do it.
