Thomas Harrington III’s life was what he always expected it to be. Since his father’s father’s father’s father was in the Navy, so too would Tom be. He went through training with his two best friends by his side and though they were occasionally parted by duty, when John became captain of the Relentless, they were reunited once more. For good this time.
The sea is where Tom is happiest, but he has nothing to complain about on land either. His wife is beautiful, charming, and talented. She keeps a beautiful house for them, which Tom is always eager to return to after long weeks at sea.
While many tease him for being simple, Tom doesn’t mind.
What more could he ask for?

For Shock, life has always been about taking what you can get. As a young girl, she stole from bakeries with her wide eyes to split loaves of bread with her brothers. As a teenager, she learned to use more than just her wide eyes to barter for a safe place to sleep and a hot meal in her belly. It was not a beautiful life, but why would a girl like Shock ever deserve beauty?
The day her father was arrested was the most terrifying of Shock’s life. Not because she wondered about where to stay or where to go, but because she saw a fate that could very well be her own: destined for the hangman’s noose.
If that was to be her path, then Shock knew she wanted to be more than a common scoundrel. So, she became a tavern wench. Then, a woman of the night. Eventually, she bought her way aboard a pirate ship headed out to sea.
It was freedom she sought. And a world that was exciting. Where every day was one worth living...
After all, you never know which one is going to be your last.

NAME: John Napoleon Darling  AFFILIATION: Pirate aboard the The Lost Wench WEAPON OF CHOICE: Rapier  OCCUPATION: Student, son of a merchant  MAGIC STATUS: Mundus  BIOGRAPHY:
John Darling’s earliest memories are of the sea.
He was only four years old when he boarded a ship bound for Swynlake Port, his mother pregnant and his older sister leaning over the bow of the ship, tasting sea spittle before they ever left the dock. By the end of the trip, his sister would be lost-- taken by the waves, though John swears it was the mermaids who beckoned to her-- and John would never see England again.
But he always dreamed of the ocean and that siren’s song, as well as the wide and miraculous world beyond the shore. By day, he obeyed his father, studying so he might one day become a successful merchant in his father’s stead. But when the sun set, John devoted himself to other trades: sword fighting with the local blacksmith, sailing in the harbor, fishing in the port, and learning the ways of the mermaids. He only ever expressed such dreams in letters to his cousin across the ocean in England. And that’s all they were-- dreams.
That is, until wayward, long-lost Jane Darling showed up not a moment too soon and offered him a place on her ship.
It means turning his back on his family. It means becoming a pirate. But it also means freedom from the life he never wanted.
Freedom is a treasure too precious to waste.

Name:  Dodger Jones Affiliation: Prisoner upon Queen Clarion’s Revenge. Weapon of Choice: Small-Jaw Knives for easier concealment. Occupation: Previously rogue pick-pocket, Magic Status: Mundus
Biography:
Dodger grew up on the streets of Swynlake Port. From a young age, all he had was his rag-tag family of those who stole and cheated in order to survive. Together, they stole their way through the port, always an inch from trouble and the cold blade of execution. But still, they survived. They flourished. His ‘father’, a previous pirate who used to tell him the tails of what it was like to sail the seas, the adventures, and the sense of danger. Every night, Dodger would beg his father for another story - to hear how he found lost and buried treasures or commandeered other ships and took them as his own. The bravery and the adventure that his father had experienced.
What Dodger never knew was that it was all simply smoke and mirrors. His father had never actually been a part of the web of piracy that sailed across the seas and spread mischief and trouble - it was all just entertainment for his youngest boy, and what Dodger didn’t know, wouldn’t hurt him. Because of this though, it was always his dream to be a pirate too. Even just to get to sail with them. As a deckhand, or maybe even to be a captain of his own ship one day. That’s why he spent most of his time learning the ‘skills’ his father told him he’d need to survive at the top. To be smart, read a map and compass, to know the skills of reading the sky and water for weather changes. To wield weapons and duel... but not honorably, of course.
There was no honor in pirate code, his father used to tell him. An honorable pirate was a dead one. To survive and be respected...to hold power? One had to be tough. Dishonorable, but.. loyal to a point. Eager...and an opportunist.
Perhaps those were Dodger’s biggest faults. Much too eager to find his path to his dreams.
And well.... technically he was achieving them. Dodger Jones could finally say he was getting to sail the seas on a massive and beautiful pirate ship.... The only problem is, they just might kill him for it.

NAME: Olaf!  AFFILIATION: Queen Clarion’s Revenge WEAPON OF CHOICE: Um, a sword, I guess... OCCUPATION: Sailor MAGIC STATUS: Fairy
BIOGRAPHY:
Olaf is not supposed to be aboard this ship.
Actually, Olaf isn’t supposed to be in this...world. He doesn’t know what happened. One second, Olaf was safe in his flat with his roommate Sindri, and the next, he woke up in the cabin of a flying ship, captained by the Queen of Pixie Hollow! Only now Queen Clarion is a ruthless pirate bent on revenge?! And there’s a competition to see who will be crowned the next Pirate King? And also, he’s apparently one of the few remaining survivors of their old Hollow before it was destroyed by a despicable human army?!
Huh. Interesting.
Of course, Olaf figures this is...just a dream, probably, a very very lucid dream. He’s not gonna rock the boat (haha, pun intended!) if he can help it, just do his best to help where he’s needed. Surely, everything will be sorted out eventually.

Name: Thomas O’Malley
Affiliation: Master Gunner, HMS Relentless
Weapon of Choice: Broadsword
Occupation: MasterGunner
Magic Status: Mundus
Biography: Thomas was a man of free passion, so how did one end up working in the Navy? Family and a whole lot of resentment. Thomas had come from a long proud line of Navy men, and when his Father was killed in action, Thomas was expected to carry on the tradition.
He had been the man of the house since he was 10 and he had subsequently followed all the rules. He had gotten engaged and married, he had had a child and rose up the ranks until he helped lead men himself.
Thomas left his wife at home without an argument because at least out at sea he could say this future was one that he had control over. That it was his decision even if really, it hadn’t. Thomas’ whole life had been chosen for him but at least here he could feel like he had some control.

Joining the Navy had been a move of opportunity, as all things were in his life. Knowing that the position of surgeon was a hard one to master and that among a crew it may have been less desirable than a high ranking officer it was the easiest for him to secure for himself. He learned medicine with ease and was able to get aboard a ship from an early age. Ratigan didn’t care about the Navy’s main missions and held no fierce loyalty to the state. He was there for the opportunities of travel and exploration of the other lands the world surely had to offer. With a steady hand, even while the ship rocked against the waves, he spent several years gaining the trust of his ship’s Captain and was able to persuade the man every now and again to disobey orders to allow them to explore islands or shores. It was only a day’s delay, there was never any harm in such things.
It was because of one of these detours that the ship had fallen into the sights of Queen Clarion’s Revenge. Unable to outrun the pirate ship, they thought they could out man them. A mistake Ratigan had understood as soon as the Captain had given his orders. He did what he was told, but in the end most of the crew was dead and the ship was on her way to the bottom of the sea. Before the Queen’s crew could decide his fate, he offered his services as a surgeon to them. There had been obvious doubt in their eyes but the hesitation gave him the room he needed to persuade them to spare his life. Having been aboard the ship now for a while, he’s hoping to have gained some level of trust among the crew but holds no false faith at having seen the damage they reaped.

NAME: Wendy Corduroy  AFFILIATION: Pirate on the The Black Opal WEAPON OF CHOICE: Boarding Axe OCCUPATION: Master Gunner of the Black Opal MAGIC STATUS: Mundus BIOGRAPHY:
Wendy was no stranger to piracy, she was born into a pirate family. If you’d ever heard of the great pirate, “Manly Dan,” that was her dear old dad. He’d groomed her brothers to set sail along with him since they were young. Manly Dan had always had a soft spot for his oldest though and after a few tries she convinced him to help her learn a few things to “keep the boys in line.” Not that being a 6ft tall woman who spoke her mind would have them knocking down her door or anything. On the contrary, the only boy she regularly saw was Mason Pines, her best friend. Her mother had been supportive though, only wanting her daughter to be happy. After all, she’d married a pirate.
Her mother had disappeared about ten years ago, some say she took off with a merchant vessel and others say it was part of a revenge plot against Manly Dan by a rival crew. Whatever the case, the only person she had left with her was Mason.
Her dad had always told her it would be better for her to stay ashore (but he knew deep down that she wasn’t much for land). Knowing that she’d be a distraction for her father and brothers while they searched for her mother and that they;d most likely never let her join their crew for fear of her meeting the same fate as her mother, she decided to tell them that she was staying on land and hatched a plan
Luckily, she’d met her dad’s friends once or twice and with Mason wanting to set sail for adventure, it wasn’t too hard to talk her way onto a ship and show off her skill set.
They jumped from ship to ship, whatever port called to them. (Only she didn’t know that something was literally calling Mason). They soon landed aboard the Black Opal and have remained there for the last few years. Wendy even ascending in the ranks as Master Gunner and aiding in the victories they’ve won.
Now coming into the competition and things in the Black Opal starting to all come to a head, what lies beyond the horizon for the two of them?

NAME: Jake Rogers AFFILIATION: Pirate on the The Lost Wench WEAPON OF CHOICE: Daggers and lots of rope OCCUPATION: Master Gunner of The Lost Wench MAGIC STATUS: Mundus BIOGRAPHY:
Jake Rogers hadn’t been born into luxury in Port Swynlake. His father was some drunk who was out of the picture and he was raised by his single mother who worked in a tavern to support the two of them.
When Jake became old enough to work, he set off to do just that. He’d provide for the mother who’d given him everything even if it was just spare change at the odd jobs he did. He managed to make the right connections though, because he somehow landed a job as a stableboy at one of the Port’s better establishments where governors and all kinds of people belonged..
Being a stable boy meant that he’d run into the more wealthy crowd from time to time and because of that, he’d laid eyes on the girl he knew he wanted to marry.
Alana Triton, the governors daughter, beautiful and smart as a whip. They’d spend their days walking around the stables and enjoying each other’s company. He’d fallen hard, but he knew JEFF Triton wouldn’t allow him to marry his daughter unless he had money to his name and was prepared to afford the life that Alana deserved.
Three years ago, Jake Rogers had to say goodbye to Port Swynlake and Alana Triton. She swore she’d wait for him and he swore he’d make his way and make something of himself.
In those three years, Jake had tried to make his way up the ladder but found himself stuck. No one would give him a second look to become anything more than a deckhand and a servant. He worked on fishing boats, he worked for merchants, he unloaded and loaded on cargo, anything he could do. Then one day, the merchant ship he was on came under attack by pirates.
It was the luckiest day of his life.
He jumped ship, the merchant ship having given him nothing to stay for and wanting to live another day to make it back to Port Swynlake, over to The Lost Wench.
This time, his hard work paid off and he was Master Gunner before long. Their haul wasn’t going to make him wealthy beyond his wildest dreams, but he’d saved up a lot. And he could only hope that Alana had waited like she’d promised (although, he wouldn’t blame her if she hadn’t).
Jake has devised a plan to talk to JEFF after the competition and claim he’d found his fortune on a merchant ship. He’d robbed plenty of men in the last voyage of their more presentable and less tattered looking clothing and would put on the performance he had to to be with the girl he loved. He’d hopefully make a ton of money off of this competition as well and they’d be able to spend their lives together.
Unfortunately, JEFF Triton’s been dead for a year and something awaits on the dock in Port Swynlake that he hadn’t quite planned for...

Name: Milori Sinclair
Affilation: Pirates
Occupation: Pirate
Magick Status: Fairy
Milori Sinclair was many things. A fairy without his wings. A royal without a hollow. A captain without a ship. The first two were shameful and problems of his own making but the third. The third was nothing more than betrayal of the highest order. A mutiny.
After turning his back on his calling as a royal, he’d set out to sail the seas, earning his ship and building his crew from the ground up. After many years of adventure and treasure hunting, he heard rumor of the ultimate treasure hidden deep within a cave on an island rumored to be cursed. Milori, not believing such nonsense, set course for the island immediately.
Little did he know, his trusted first mate had been planning a mutiny and one night staged his attack, injuring Milori and leaving him for dead on a desert island. It was up to Milori to find a way back to civilization. No one knows for sure exactly how he managed to make his way back to Swynlake Port, though the rumors range from the wild to the impossible.
Tucking his desire for revenge away for the opportune moment, Milori has since joined the crew of the Queen’s Revenge and awaits the day when he’ll be able strike back at the one who took everything from him.

NAME: Jun Moon  AFFILIATION: Swynlake Port WEAPON OF CHOICE: His fishing rod! Bad temper >) OCCUPATION: Fisherman  MAGIC STATUS: Mundus
BIOGRAPHY:
Moon Yeong-jun was born to a humble fisherman and he will die a humble fisherman in his father’s stead. What more is there to say?
Eh, well, fine, suppose there is a bit more. When Jun was but a child, he did, once, dream of more. He was naturally academic and hoped that in learning to read, he might move up in the world and see more of it. But times were hard...and as the oldest of a large family, Jun never got to pursue his dreams. Once his father died in a fishing accident, it was up to Jun to take over and keep the Floating Moon, the family’s boat, well...afloat. Such responsibility has never been more important since his younger brother, Tae, ran away from home to be a pirate or whatever!
Fine! Good riddance! As if Jun needed your help anyway!
Still, sometimes when it’s quiet, he looks out at the horizon and imagines his brother, sailing home...

Name: Nyx Quillsword
Affiliation: Pirate, Queen Clarion’s Revenge
Weapon of Choice: A Cutlass with the scabbard and hilt made of Porcupine Quills
Occupation: Quartermaster of Queen Clarion’s Revenge
Magic Status: Magick, Fairy
Biography:
Nyx Quillsword had one of the most ruthless reputations on these Caribbean Seas. No one wanted to get into a bar fight with Nyx, because you’d find yourself waking up hours later without a thought to how you landed yourself in the gutter. There would be no pity taken upon your soul and no coin left to your pockets. You’d be lucky to leave with all your limbs.
Nyx had not always been so cruel to her opponents, but she had lost her true love: her Hollow. Left to the ruins of her home, she soured towards the outside world. There was no more diplomacy. This was war.
Nyx had devoted her entire life to protecting the Hollow and her Queen. If there was one person who felt the need for revenge as deeply as the Queen herself, it was Nyx. Now the Queen was her Captain and it made no difference to Nyx. She’d protect her Captain with her life still as she would any member aboard the QCR. There was no greater swordsman or swordswoman than Nyx Quillsword. Not so far as they had seen. Nyx would train day and night between shouting orders from the Captain to the crew.
Nyx used to be a fairy of duty and honor. Now all she felt was the duty to her Captain and to honor those she lost with the slaughter of every naval officer and Mundus who dare stand in their way.

Commodore Lyons was not always the serious, accomplished naval officer that he is today.
Once, he was just a young lad with a dream to sail the ocean like his father, an accomplished officer himself. He thought the sea called specifically to him. He thought pirates were exciting. As soon as he was old enough, he signed up to follow in his father’s footsteps. While he was successful at tactical training and an expert in sword-play, he was often reprimanded for not following orders. Despite this, his father quickly made him First Mate of the the HMS Pride.
With a thirst for adventure and a courageous heart, Simba was the center of many sordid stories that circulated through Swynlake. About a brave young solider rescuing a damsel (or damoiseau) in distress. A reckless young solider diving into a stormy ocean to rescue a crew member.
Simba loved the attention, however, he had trouble holding down an engagement. While his family gently prodded him towards that lady or this lord, Simba never said yes and the options slowly moved on to more interested parties. Simba wasn’t bothered, he didn’t want to be tied down. Not yet. Not while he was having fun.
And then, Simba’s father was killed by pirates.
In a moment, Simba’s whole world changed. He was immediately given the ranking of Captain after his father’s death and given the Pride. Over night, he became more serious. Dedicated to the safety of his crew and ship.
Once he buckled down, he climbed the ranks quickly, despite himself.
In the whirlwind of all of this, Simba finally accepted a proposal: a betrothal to Berlioz Bonfamille, the middle child of a respected family that had been in Swynlake for years. Simba had known of the Bonfamilles, of course, but he did not know his fiance on any sort of intimate level. He tried his best to get to know him before their wedding day, but he was often gone at sea and letter writing is precarious at best.
However, once they were married, Simba was almost immediately offered the ranking of Commodore. He accepted: not for the prestige that it would bring, necessarily, but because it meant he would be home more. To get to know his husband. (Though, honestly, he hadn’t accounted for the mountains of paperwork that it would mean...)
Although they’ve only been married a few months, Simba loves his quiet, shy husband. He is absolutely devoted to him and has done his best to prove it at any available moment. Now, his real opportunity to prove himself to his husband has arrived: in the dead of night, a surprise attack on the Lyons manor by the Black Opal resulted in the kidnapping of not only Berlioz but his brother as well.
Will Simba be able to rescue his husband? Or will he be too late?

“We have met the enemy and they are ours…”
NAME: Willis Tibbs AFFILIATION: Navy, HMS Victory WEAPON OF CHOICE: Spadroon OCCUPATION: Naval Captain MAGIC STATUS: Mundus
When the ship that Willis Tibbs, a junior doctor and a navy man in training, was attacked by the Spanish, he assumed it would be the death of him.
Tibbs men had been fighting wars since there was a war to fight, and they had always fought on the winning side. Some had lost their lives for crown and country, but that didn’t seem to matter to the rest. When Willis had joined the navy, he didn’t think he’d see active combat. And then, all of a sudden, his Captain was dead, the First Mate, the Sailing Master, the Boatswain, the Gunner, even the surgeon under whom he was learning his trade, they were all gone. Willis, just seventeen years old, was the only man left aboard with enough fight to take control. He rallied the men, got them to man the cannons and ready the lifeboats, and though their own ship sunk, they sunk that Spanish galleon as well, and watched as it disappeared beneath the Mediterranean.
When what was left of the crew made it to Gibraltar, they hailed Tibbs as a hero, and for his bravery, he was given his own ship — the HMS Victory was christened in the Port of Gibraltar and went straight into her first battle. She spent ten years with Tibbs as her Captain, sailing the Mediterranean, engaging the French and the Spanish, and every battle they entered, they won. Their success was known within the British Navy, and when, upon his return to England, Tibbs was asked if he should like to retire, he politely rejected. He wanted a new challenge, with the Spanish war over. And with that, he was sent to the West Indies, and to Swynlake Port.
Swynlake Port was a funny place, but he found it a decent one. The waters in the Caribbean could be far more treacherous than those of the Mediterranean, but even then, the Victory seemed to come out of every battle alive and kicking. It was only recently, in a skirmish with some pirate vessel, that the Victory suffered some heavy losses. She was forced to return to the Port for repairs, and Tibbs was forced to look for new crewmates. And now, with news of the competition to crown the new Pirate King, the Victory’s focus, and that of her Captain, has been redirected solely to this new cause. Perhaps Captain Tibbs is cocky, after years of triumph, but he’s realistic; he knows the danger this race may bring, and he hopes those pirates are ready for a fight.

To die would be an awfully big adventure.
If you’ve heard about Tink Bell, chances are it’s an embellished tale born from a lie uttered from the lips of a person who had only heard a story of a story from someone who only caught a vague glimpse of the hurricane that is the charismatic captain.
All stories, however, stem from a place of truth.
Born in a Hollow in Britain, Tink constantly searched for a place to belong. Her talent never manifested the way it should have. Her mind too active to stick to one for long and her skill at all mediocre at best. She was a fairy that was too loud, too brass, too crass. Not meant to fit into the mold that was designed for her, it came as no surprise that in the dead of the night she disappeared.
Hiding her identity completely, Tink found work where she could. Odd jobs here and there kept food in her belly and her resourcefulness kept her somewhat warm at night. It was that same resourcefulness that caught the eye of a young pirate looking to start a crew of his own. His charisma and way with words easily swayed the wayward fairy and soon the two had set sail to make a name for themselves.
Peter’s way with words and those younger than him and Tink’s general taste for mischief made it easy for the duo to become the center of many ghost stories told to misbehaving children. Tales told of a twinkling light that always accompanied a dark shadow that took children from their bed to never be seen again.
Those kids? All part of a new family that Tink and Peter have created in the form of a formidable crew that takes no prisoners. Only those that want freedom and the chance to chase the farthest stars.
