You're pretty damn cool
I have a ton of untouched games in my steam library, yet I'm currently playing through my old copy of Fossil Fighters Champions, and it's fucking bonkers. This game has the most ridiculous plot points. In one scene a digging robot is breaking through a rock, but it starts running out of battery, so the main character starts trying to help (to no effect), and the robot is like "You are attempting to assist me? Thank you sir or madam. I now know why it is that humans smile. Battery at 100%, diggingdiggingdiggingdigging-" and that's just A THING that happens with no explanation. That robot wasn't even hinted to be sapient at all until that moment, and no one is like "holy fuck the digging robot has emotions" or anything, it just happens. And those kinds of moments are all over the game. This game does the most absurd things ever, I love it so much.

What are good monster collecting games with fun beastiaries? You're my beastiary mutual so I think you would know good ones
now you are asking the good questions!
first thing that comes to mind is easily yokai watch. there’s a fantastic mix of goofy and badass yokai you can inevitably recruit. of course if you like mythology some of the yokai are based on, well, actual yokai.
i also recommend fossil fighters! (not frontier though so not play it.) the combat for both the og and champions are super unique but the stand out here are first the vivosaurs. there’s a wide range of them all with neat designs, plus with the games encouraging strategy and team building, you can make some really fun combos. finding the fossils is also really really relaxing in my opinion. you get to clean them too! and hey the plot for the first game gets fucjing insane so if you care for storytelling you got that (the dialogue writing for both is top notch too).
ik i’m a monster hunter fanboy so this is no surprise but stories is great :D combat’s unique and if the monster side of monster hunter interests you and not the hunting part this might be what you’re looking for!
dragon quest has a spin off based on just the monsters. some of the main games have a monster battling thing you can do and with how goofy the designs are for most, it’s not surprising. haven’t given monsters a shot myself but hey goofy monsters are something some people want more than anything.
and if you want a focus on the raising, i HEAVILY recommend monster rancher. the games have a unique mechanic of allowing discs of all kinds to be inserted into whatever system you’re playing on (not counting the 1+2 port (you can still enter the names of cds and it acts as the insertion of one) or any of the portable entries) and you can and will get. uh. interesting monsters.
seriously the designs on some of these guys are. really something. i mean the mascot is a suezo and those guys are living eyes and one of the races is just living blob guys but you do get attached to them since y’know you’re raising them :)
