It’s Friday!! And you know what that means, fellow bookworms. It’s another haul post! These are three beautiful hardbacks that I had been waiting to arrive for some time then Waterstones had those warehouse problems 😒 I’ve become obsessed with Greek mythology retellings so jumped at the chance to preorder Ithaca. It’s also by Claire North who wrote one of my favourite books - The First Fifteen Lives Of Harry August. Ithaca follows the story of Penelope, Odysseus’ wife who is barely into womanhood when Odysseus leaves her for war in Troy. Years later, speculation is mounting that he is dead and suitors are clambering around her, desperate to be King of Ithaca. Penelope could be one choice away from a bloody civil war. I preordered Trust as it was longlisted for the Booker in 2022. It’s set in the roar and effervescence of New York in the 1920’s where everyone has heard of Benjamin and Helen Rask. He is a legendary Wall St tycoon and she is the brilliant daughter of eccentric aristocrats. Together, they have risen to the very top of a world of seemingly endless wealth. However the secrets around their affluence and grandeur incites gossip. At what cost have they acquired their immense fortune? Finally, I’m back on the Greek mythology train with the wonderful Natalie Haynes and her retelling of the gorgon Medusa. I’ve often wondered if Medusa was slightly misunderstood and after having loved A Thousand Ships, I can’t wait to read Haynes take on this story which was always a favourite of mine. This is the story of how a young woman became a monster. And how she was never really a monster at all. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! #bookstagramuk #uhohmorebooks #bookhaulofawesomeness #ithaca #clairenorth #greekmythologyretold #trust #hernandiaz #stoneblind #nataliehaynes #booksimexcitedabout #booksineedmorebooks #insatiablebookworm #cantstopbuyingbooks #hardbackbooksarethebest https://www.instagram.com/p/CmPS69nIRrJ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Hello everyone! I’m away in a gorgeous village in the Cotswolds on a reading retreat with @chrissireads but I thought I’d share another paperback haul with you all. I was intrigued by Rose Nicolson as it’s a Scottish historical fiction novel set in the 16th century where Queen Mary has fled Scotland to raise an army from the French. Described as a vivid, passionate and unforgettable novel about this dramatic period of Scottish history featuring a conspiracy over who will take Scotland’s crown. Sahota’s new novel China Room follows characters across generations and continents (from Punjab to rural England. It’s a transfixing novel about two characters desperate to free themselves - one from the expectations of women in early 20th century Punjab and the other from the weight of life in the contemporary Indian diaspora. Lear Wife is inspired by Shakespeare’s King Lear and tells the story of the most famous woman ever written out of literary history. Lear’s wife was exiled to a nunnery years ago written out of history, her name forgotten. Now she has a chance to tell her story. Though her grief and rage may threaten to crack the earth open, she knows she must seek answers. I’d love to know if you’ve read any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments and have a great week everyone! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #scottishbookstagrammer #bookhaul #perfectpaperbacks #ineededthesebooks #rosenicolson #andrewgreig #chinaroom #sunjeevsahota #learwife #jrthorp #booksimexcitedabout #booksonthetbr #booksineedmorebooks https://www.instagram.com/p/ChAqf0FLGvA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
