Fed up with the isolation and microaggressions, she’s thrilled when Harlem-born and bred Hazel starts working in the cubicle beside hers. They’ve only just started comparing natural hair care regimens, though, when a string of uncomfortable events elevates Hazel to Office Darling, and Nella is left in the dust. Then the notes begin to appear on Nella’s desk: LEAVE WAGNER. NOW. It’s hard to believe Hazel is behind these hostile messages. But as Nella starts to spiral and obsess over the sinister forces at play, she soon realizes that there’s a lot more at stake than just her career. 𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 ℝ𝕖𝕧𝕚𝕖𝕨- What are you reading this beautiful Sunday morning? Today on the blog I'm wrapping up my three post series featuring @tifmarcelo with a full, spoiler-free review. From my review: In A Book Club Far Away reminded me why I love reading contemporary fiction and that I should do it more often. Overall, I gave this one 5🌟 and would recommend it to anyone who loves books about friendship, book clubs, and military life. Thank you @gallerybooks and @netgalley for the early copy. Thanks to @bookofthemonth for the beautiful hardcover edition. Head on over to the blog to see all my thoughts and check out the synopsis of In A Book Club Far Away below! SYNOPSIS Regina Castro, Adelaide Wilson-Chang, and Sophie Walden used to be best friends. As Army wives at Fort East, they bonded during their book club and soon became inseparable. But when an unimaginable betrayal happened amongst the group, the friendship abruptly ended, and they haven’t spoken since. That’s why, eight years later, Regina and Sophie are shocked when they get a call for help from Adelaide. Adelaide’s husband is stationed abroad, and without any friends or family near her new home of Alexandria, Virginia, she has no one to help take care of her young daughter when she has to undergo emergency surgery. For the sake of an innocent child, Regina and Sophie reluctantly put their differences aside to help an old friend. As the three women reunite, they must overcome past hurts and see if there’s any future for their friendship. Featuring Tif Marcelo’s signature “enchanting prose” (Amy E. Reichert, author of The Coincidence of Coconut Cake) and the books that brought them together in the first place, In a Book Club Far Away honors the immense power of female friendship and how love can defy time, distance, and all old wounds. #inabookclubfaraway #tifmarcelo #bookoftheminthclub #bookofthemonth #authorqanda #authorinterview #authorspotlight https://www.instagram.com/p/CO80TWULXKr/?igshid=xbk4k499iuh3

𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕄𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕙- What May/June releases are you excited about? One of the reasons I love @bookofthemonth is because they frequently offer selections that force me out of my comfort zone. Arsenic and Adobo by @mpmthewriter is the first cozy mystery that I have picked up and I have really enjoyed what I've read of it. Here's to hoping that May's selection is just as wonderful and diverse. While you are waiting, check out my guesses for May by going to my blog (link in bio) and check out the synopsis of Arsenic and Adobo below! SYNOPSIS When Lila Macapagal moves back home to recover from a horrible breakup, her life seems to be following all the typical rom-com tropes. She's tasked with saving her Tita Rosie's failing restaurant, and she has to deal with a group of matchmaking aunties who shower her with love and judgment. But when a notoriously nasty food critic (who happens to be her ex-boyfriend) drops dead moments after a confrontation with Lila, her life quickly swerves from a Nora Ephron romp to an Agatha Christie case. With the cops treating her like she's the one and only suspect, and the shady landlord looking to finally kick the Macapagal family out and resell the storefront, Lila's left with no choice but to conduct her own investigation. Armed with the nosy auntie network, her barista best bud, and her trusted Dachshund, Longanisa, Lila takes on this tasty, twisted case and soon finds her own neck on the chopping block… #bookoftheminthclub #bookofthemonthpicks #bookofthemonthspoilers #bookofthemonth https://www.instagram.com/p/CN9M4FELfJR/?igshid=1juqyc1gv343f

𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕄𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕙-- What are you reading this fine Saturday morning? Today on the blog I'm sharing my break down of the April @bookofthemonth picks. I really enjoyed this month's selection and think across the main picks and add ons, there is some thing for everyone. What did you add to your box? Were there any picks you were hoping to see that didn't make the cut? Let me know! A noticeable theme through the picks was that of literary mysteries which I would compare to books like Girl A by @abigailsdean which was a pick a few months back. #bookoftheminthclub #bookofthemonthpicks #bookofthemonth #botm #botmpicks #subscriptionbox #booksubscriptionbox https://www.instagram.com/p/CNNn0krLKve/?igshid=1891jwvz9xmkl

𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕄𝕠𝕟𝕥𝕙 If you were a thief, what would you steal? White Ivy by @susieyyang was one of my @bookofthemonth picks and it sounds so good! Also, head on over to the blog to see our predictions for December! SYNOPSIS Ivy Lin is a thief and a liar—but you’d never know it by looking at her. Raised outside of Boston, Ivy’s immigrant grandmother relies on Ivy’s mild appearance for cover as she teaches her granddaughter how to pilfer items from yard sales and second-hand shops. Thieving allows Ivy to accumulate the trappings of a suburban teen—and, most importantly, to attract the attention of Gideon Speyer, the golden boy of a wealthy political family. But when Ivy’s mother discovers her trespasses, punishment is swift and Ivy is sent to China, and her dream instantly evaporates. Years later, Ivy has grown into a poised yet restless young woman, haunted by her conflicting feelings about her upbringing and her family. Back in Boston, when Ivy bumps into Sylvia Speyer, Gideon’s sister, a reconnection with Gideon seems not only inevitable—it feels like fate. Slowly, Ivy sinks her claws into Gideon and the entire Speyer clan by attending fancy dinners, and weekend getaways to the cape. But just as Ivy is about to have everything she’s ever wanted, a ghost from her past resurfaces, threatening the nearly perfect life she’s worked so hard to build. Filled with surprising twists and a nuanced exploration of class and race, White Ivy is a glimpse into the dark side of a woman who yearns for success at any cost. #bookoftheminthclub #bookofthemonthpicks #bookofthemonth #subscriptionbox #bookbox https://www.instagram.com/p/CHwnSi_ghgp/?igshid=1e2hjhogbirx
