4t2 Book Nook Kit
Tumblr media
Here's the conversion I wanted to make for so long but was too afraid of all the modular items. Until I felt I had enough knowledge and was ready.
This set includes all objects from the kit, a set of wallpapers (panels), two default replacement files (optional) for Maxis book sculptures - Stack Of Books and Strength Of Humanity Book Ends and a collection file. @lordcrumps' shadow file is necessary for the shadows to work correctly, it's included but you can delete it if you have it already. Recolors are merged with meshes.
All book sculptures function as bookcases (like in this set), the rug is one tile only but with auto expanded footprint (so only one obj). The coffee table has slots on the surface and on the ends, near deco books. Stacked books are a bookcase too but also have one slot to put anything on it or stack the same object over to create a book tower. Standard bookcases and book shelves all have slots, bookcase shelves go on walls only (otherwise use moveobjects cheat) and are shiftable to create a modular look. Seams were smoothed where necessary and as always with my objects, no shine or very reasonable (like on glass surfaces). Because all parts are meant to be modular and take up the whole wall when combined, they will clip into ceilings, so be aware of that when taking pics ;)

If you decide to keep the default replacement files for the two book sculptures, i highly recommend also getting this mod ("functional book sculptures") by @midgethetree to make them functional.
Compressed, clearly labelled, picture included.

TS4 Book Nook Kit Lights - 4t3 conversion
They're quite simple and similar to already released CC - but they're lowpoly (both less than 500 polys each) and I liked the wooden accents work on these ones.
BGC, two recolorable channels - the wooden pattern is an EA pattern and won't appear if you choose a different one!
Thank you @jamiesplayhouse for sending me the meshes!

The light works! I was a bit worried the assembly wouldn't be functional. Both because I'm unreasonably nervous about even low volt like this, and because himbo cat ate half the cables x'p
Not much left to do, now :'3

Second post, this video has the ceiling on properly, and the frame for the dust cover in place. Of course me having my big brain, I put glue at the top of the frame...For reference, the dust cover slides between the frame, and the walls, it's meant to slide up and down, meaning no need for glue at the top. 🤦‍♀️ I thought I had waited long enough, and wiped enough of the top glue off, when I slid the dust cover into place. I had not. 🥴 The result was streaked glue on the plexiglass dust cover, and me almost crying. A few alcohol swabs, and some glass cleaner later, the plexiglass was clean. 😅
This is with the dust cover frame in place, before the dust cover disaster. Note how nice the light looks when it's where it belongs, behind that hanging light fixture. 🥴

Video of the book nook after adding the frame, and fixing the ceiling.
And finally, the book nook with dust cover.

So for the past few days I've been trying to build a new house (AGAIN) for The Harrisons to move in. I feel like their house/manor in H-O-B (or scotland in-lore) doesn't really fit them much (IT DOES IN-LORE but I couldn't be bothered building intricate mansions OR castles for scotland so *shrugs*), so I'm currently trying to build an art deco (my favorite architecture).
Tumblr media
At the first time, I tried using the rounded rooms, but we all know it's gonna be a bitch to decorate it with in the long run (and some visual glitches and stuff, when you're on tab mode and look up at the ceiling, the ceiling of the rounded room is more noticable or proturding compared to normal ceilings and it's a bother to me especially when trying to takes screenies).
When I was decorating the backyard, I made the mistake of using the shift button to redo the tiles I placed there, and in the result of doing that, the tiles was place/snapped under the rounded room, which caused another visual glitch and it was annoying moving the room and fitting it back to its place.
Tumblr media
So anyways, I removed the rounded rooms in the first floor (except in the entryway) and here it is. I've only completed that room on the right, which is a mini-library/living room/mini-ballroom.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ignore the misplaced decor from the book nook kit on the second pic, I have plans for that LMAO
Anyways, I might add more little stuff. Some furniture there are actually the art deco style the game had tagged. The others are just what I think fits best. The bar and some lightings are from a CC pack!
Tumblr media
And here's their garage. The black car is Priscilla's while the red one is Tony's. The motorbike is Priscilla's too. There's a Ford pickup outside that I forgot to take a screenshot of but that's his. I got these along with the WW animations installed....LMAO
And if you've read this far, thanks! <3

I’m completely overwhelmed trying to build a new house for science guy Colin in my Lepacy so today I instead decided to lower the bar as far as possible and build a 3x3 room with the freshly released Book Nook kit.
The swatches are a bit lackluster but I really, really love the modular book case! It’s going to be used in most of my sims homes from now on! 😊
Big thanks to the EA Creator Program for giving me the code 💛

Thank you to the EA Creator network for the code to check out the Book Nook Kit. I haven't had the time I want lately to play and build in ts4 that I would like but I really wanted to take some time to do a quick little cc-free set-type build cc-free with this new Kit since I uh very much love building libraries.
Further review of my quick look at the pack under the cut if you're interested - but my main takeaway is that I'm underwhelmed with the color swatches for the bookshelves and I should, as such, note that the colors in my screenshot above have been adjusted.
I really really wanted to like this Kit so much. The initial promo images didn't inspire me (at all) libraries are one of my favorite things to build in ts4, and I was really hoping the items in this pack could replace some of the CC that I use. That will almost definitely not be the case, however.
My main gripe is with the bookshelves. I enjoyed some of the clutter items and will never turn down a good stack of books, though I do have to admit i didn't look too closely at the other large furniture items because they simply don't fit the style in which I tend to build. The shelves, however, came kind of close to being what I had hoped, but ultimately there's just too many small things that bug me about them that I don't see them being worth the cost of the pack.
Those issues with the shelves were: 1) The snapping - I'm really not into this trend of wall items snapping. If you're someone who really likes to finesse positioning I think you'll probably understand how difficult this becomes with snapped items. TOOL alleviates some of these issues but TOOL should not be a necessity for paid packs (and also bugged out when i was trying to move a piece not on the wall, so maybe a moot point, altogether ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). I've also only just noticed that I kept the book swatches all the same because I kept having to replace them to fix placement issues and obviously forgot to adjust that. Oops! :')
2) No base - The shelves just look, to me, so awkward and off without a base for them to sit on the floor. If you look at most shelves of this type, like Ikea's billy bookcases which these have a very similar vibe to, the bottom shelf does not sit directly on the floor, but is instead slightly elevated off of it:
Tumblr media
Like, I understand that removing that element from the equation makes the stacking/snapping effect easier to pull off, but :///
3) The Color Swatches - I didn't check 100%, but I think the swatches do match up to The Immaculate base game display shelf which is nice. But just ughhhhhhhh. I really hated the wood colors on these. They all felt cold and institutional. I really wanted there to be a warm mahogany-esque swatch for good dark academia vibes but, alas. For full transparency this is my image before I photoshopped the colors to be closer to the vibe that I wanted:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before-> After. It wasn't the absolute worst and got some of the vibes I wanted, but also like. meh.
All in all, this kit was a bit of a disappointment to me. I can see some of my issues being fixed with recolors - but at that point I might as well just be using other CC items?? I'll also recommend some of my current favorite bookshelf items I have in my game > These bookshelves by MLys - these basically never ever leave my game even when I'm going super CC-light. > and this modular library set by SSTS (which admittedly has some of my same issues with snapping items in ts4 - but it's free and has seriously BEAUTIFUL swatches and details and so. I cannot complain even the smallest single bit. It's gorgeous and I can only hope to one day build a library worthy of the set, lol)

Welcome to the Monkey-face Grecko!
The little guy that @rabdoidal made during a crafternoon from an accidently included sheet in the giraffe stag beetle model kit I brought along
He can also been seen terrorising a tram which terrorised us with making it (that tram is 1/3 of the instructions for the entire book nook and yes it may kill me)

Phew. It's been a couple days, my head wouldn't let me work on it, pressure headaches are horrible. 😭
About another 2 hours and change, so 9.5 hours all together, I think? The missing book pile is still missing, but it's coming along. The next time I work on it, will probably when I finish, and I'm so sad about that. 😭
Now for tonight's pictures! 🩵 It's getting dark in there as I close it in, so flash has been turned on. When it's done, it will light up. 🩵
