It is similar to the blue-spotted stingray (Neotrygon kuhlii), but this species (Taeniura lymma) has more vibrant colours and more blue spots! They’re nocturnal predators, coming out from hiding in the night to seek prey hiding in the sand during high tide.
my first time diving when i jumped into the sea everything to my left was dark as and i was like wtf scary and my instructor told me i should dive to see what it was and i found myself in the middle of a massive school of fish. who needs pictures some memories will stick with you forever
A Bluespotted Ribbontail Stingray which is a species of Whiptail Stingrays!
Now hold your horses, these are also known as Bluespotted rays, Bluespotted fantail rays, Bluespotted lagoon rays, Bluespotted stingrays, Fantail rays, Lesser fantail rays, Lagoon rays, and Reef rays!
The Blue Spotted Ribbontail Ray is one of the most abundant stingrays inhabiting Indo-Pacific reefs, the bluespotted ribbontail ray generally spends the day hidden alone inside caves or under coral ledges or other debris, often with only its tail showing. At night, small groups assemble and swim onto shallow sandy flats with the rising tide to feed.
Another one I wanted to have fun with. No lineart, just went to town. This is the bluespotted ribbontail ray, Taeniura lymma! Sadly couldn't draw one of my iconic smiles on this bad boy as her mouth is on the bottom of her body, but just so you know she is smiling!
Earlier this year, I went snorkeling on Fitzroy Island, off of Queensland, Australia and right by the Great Barrier Reef.
I saw so many cool marine species, and the highlight of that day was the bluespotted ribbontail ray chilling on the oceanfloor. I didn’t think they got this close to the beach!
I’m so annoyed that my iPhone camera quality is garbage, because this video nor the stills do the stingray any justice.
WOOHOO!! My birthday gifts from @timebird84 arrived yesterday!!! 😆🎉
It always amazes me how many interesting snacks y’all have in Germany 🤯 I love how marzipan can come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. I almost don’t want to eat the lobster because it looks so nicely made 😅 And it’s pretty neat that they make the marzipan apples look more realistic by putting fake injuries on them 😂
I’ve already started eating the Joghurties and Raffaelo. Mmm...the coconut works really well in this instance 😋 Can’t wait to sample the others!
I LOVE my new bluespotted ribbontail ray, crab keychain, and shrimp ornament! 🦀🥰🦐 They’re meeting some friends you gave me in past years 😁
The seal pin is so cute! 🦭 And I’m curious to read about German recipes and see if there are any I’d like to tackle 🍽️
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS WONDERFUL BOUNTY SONJA!!! I feel blessed right now 😇💖🥲
