I know about real sports but how does fake sport work?
fake sports really depends and it has a Tiny sample size of two whole known (by me) things that apply for the genre which are; blaseball, and 17776
blaseball is like fantasy football and other fantasy games but with the added bonus of the players sometimes being murdered, swapped mid season, put in a peanut shell by a vengeful god, shit like that. you participate in the cultural event known as blaseball mainly by watching the simulated matches on the site and by making intricate and intimate lore for the players who we other than name and "soulscream" barely know anything about
17776 and its sequel is a web narrative rather than an event like blaseball is, its about three sentient space probes who watch the evolved form of college american football which the world has fully embraced
the fake sports genre is exemplified, to me, by absurd changes to or added rules/mechanics to an already well known game (baseball/college american football) that lets the consumer experience an enjoyment of the sport without having to actually watch the sport (for example i love blaseball but would rather die than watch an actual game of baseball), fake sports also has an intended or otherwise focus on the players of its game and their stories
mcc would be a fake sport if it wasnt also Kinda a sport, if mcc had fictional people in it then i may had called it a fake sport
if there were more fake sports id love to engage with them and update the definition but thus far ive only gotten one thing that may apply that ill have to watch in the future (its dnd of a make up sport)
