So I got to see Hadestown yesterday and I wanted to share some highlights.
It's obvious even when listening to the album that Orpheus is extremely innocent, but seeing his face and mannerisms makes it even more obvious and more tragic.
When Hades comes for Persephone he and Eurydice exchange looks and Orpheus jumps in front of her to block Hades view.
The woman who played Persephone faked a lisp to seem drunker for most of the play but whenever she said something serious she dropped the lisp which just added to the effect that her words had.
When Orpheus says "to the world we dream about and the one we live in now" everything goes dead quiet. No music, no movement just those words.
When Eurydice is looking for food the fates rip off her jacket and her coat.
The entrance to the train station is a bay door that opens to reveal a bright panel of lights and smoke.
When Orpheus takes the back entrance to Hadestown the set separates to let him through just like the rocks split in the original myth.
When Hades says "I conduct the electric city" the lights get so bright that it is blinding.
When Orpheus sings for Hades there are three spot lights; one for him, one for Eurydice and one for Persephone.
Hades and Persephone dancing. Also the way Orpheus holds Eurydice.
The works all wear caps that make them look almost identical. When Orpheus makes them remember their lives they take the hats off.
The stage is so dark and smoky when Orpheus is walking that even the audience does not know if Eurydice is there.
They light up a set of stairs and a doorway to represent the end of the journey back to the surface. When Orpheus turns around there are audible gasps from the audience and the bay doors slowly close on Eurydice.
At the very end, they reset the entire stage to make it look exactly like it did when they started emphasizing that they will never stop telling the story.
That got a bit long, but there is so much to say. I honestly barely covered half of it. It's an incredible show and if you ever get the chance to see it you should.

be warned, there be pics of my face (and sappy cheesiness) under the cut….
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i went to so much for 2ourdust dressed as the magic 8 ball if the magic 8 ball served cunt ✨
when i was 12, i was in a bad place, i was depressed and not happy with my life. my friend's older, cooler sister showed us the youngblood chronicles randomly one night, and thus, i found my favorite band and album. fall out boy's music has helped me through some of the worst parts of my life, and knowing that i wasn't alone in my struggles, knowing that someone else has felt the same way and has come out the other side was empowering to me. i was supposed to see fall out boy on the boys of zummer tour, but that fell through, and, because of where i live, i never had any hope of seeing them in person. when so much for tourdust (the first leg) was announced, i watched the videos of it and found myself wishing that i could find a way to get there, but it never worked out for me. it was too expensive, too far away, i couldn't get time off work or school, and it became a fleeting thought of "oh, that would be neat, but it's never gonna happen ." and then, so much for 2ourdust. birmingham alabama, it's the closest they've ever been to me and will EVER be to me. the tour was announced on september 7th, and i bought my tickets on the 13th (i had to wait for my paycheck to come lmao). i didn't care what seats i got, i just needed to be there. my tickets were $30, in just about the furthest back, most nosebleed seats in the arena, but i didn't care. we get there yesterday, go to our section, and one of the workers (i wish i had caught her name, but shout out to you, random worker at the legacy arena at the bjcc!!) offered me and my mom a free upgrade to club seats, because (ticketmaster hadn't bothered to tell me, so thanks ticketmaster) our section had an obstructed view. so we go to our club seats, and then began the greatest night ever. daisy grenade was KILLER, the maine blew the ROOF off the arena, it was an HONOR to see jimmy eat world perform, and then it became time for the main ticket. one wrecking ball and we didn't start the fire later, and the moment i hear the piano intro for love from the other side, i swear i passed out, and blacked back in when i saw them onstage. my saviors, the reason i am alive today and the person i am today, i was in the same room. i cried the whole time, even when i was dancing and screaming. i knew all the words and sang the whole time, and my soul ascended when dance dance started— the first song i learned on my bass, which i only decided to learn because of pete wentz. i had kept the entire tour a secret from myself, i hadn't watched any videos or knew what the setlist was, all i knew was the magic 8 ball/surprise song section. so imagine my surprise when the phoenix starts, and then just one yesterday, AND THEN young volcanoes, then my songs know what you did in the dark. and imagine my UTTER SHOCK when i figured out that THAT MANY sr&r songs are NOT on the classic setlist, and was special for my show. it felt like a divine message. whoever is controlling us knew that i needed to hear those songs live, and i thank them.
anyway. gonna go cry forever and maybe get a volcano tattoo.

now that ive done all the ultimates i wanted to do a tier list of ultimate phases. tiers aren't ordered within the tier. discussion under the cut
S tier
Perfect Alexander - an extremely hype phase. the enigma codex stuff is really cool thematically, and a fun and unique mechanic to do. probably the best ultimate final phase
Beetle (looper/pantokrator) - this is probably gonna be one of the most controversial here but hear me out. the mech is fun to execute even deep into prog, and remains challenging enough to keep players on their toes even for players who've spent tons of time in the fight. the music is trash tier but if you mute it and listen to something else this phase is aces.
BJCC - nisis own
not on the list but honorable s-tier mention to uwu lahabrea transition (lb3 spam). more on this later.
A tier
Thordan I - a lot of DSR is gonna make it into this tier, and this is part of it. Thordan 1 is really good as a first phase of the fight (more on the actual first phase of this fight later). Meteors is a challenging mechanic for party coordination, but it's possible for a group to develop that consistency, and that sort of challenge feels right for ultimates.
Nidhogg - another solid phase from DSR. The rhythm of the dives is fun, and makes for a nice spectacle.
DK Thordan - a really good final phase, but not quite S tier for me. The exaflares feel a bit gimicky, but the other mechanics are nice. Ultimate final phases are an interesting challenge from a design perspective because they're ultimately a nerves check, and typically are fairly easy compared to the rest of the fight, with the challenge being to get there consistently and keep your cool. DK Thordan is good as an ultimate final phase, but lacks the spark that pushes Perfect Alexander into top tier for me.
Twintania - TWISTERS TWISTERS TWISTERS AAAAAAAAAA
Nael - This is the quintessential ultimate phase to me. The way that it feels chaotic at first, but a disciplined and consistent group can turn into routine is just perfect.
Garuda/Titan - These two get to be a bit higher than ifrit because I think they're more fun to execute and also doing the mechanic skips make ifrit feel weird.
Ultima - Honestly it feels weird putting all of the ultima mechanics in one thing but that's how the tier list maker did it and i was too lazy to make my own. This is the one that is the least memorable to me because uwu was the first ultimate I did and therefore it's been the longest. I don't think that ultima is super special and memorable but there's also no complaints I have about it. So, solid A tier overall.
B tier
Omega M/F I - honestly just kind of dull compared to everything around it.
Final Omega I (hello world) - a fairly satisfying dance, but marred by the early issues with debuff caps, and again just kind of dull sometimes. looks pretty though (and the spinning red/blue fish emojis everyone did were funny)
Thordan II - It's Fine. but not as exciting as thordan 1, so it goes in a lower category.
DSR Adds/double dragons - maybe a bit of personal bias here since my prog through this phase was pretty rough. The vow enrage mechanics are cool, but the actual stuff that you do in the phase isnt as fun as the rest of the fight
Living Liquid - pepsiman is a really cool opening phase. ive penalized it a bit because of how jank jagd dolls can be, but honestly thats more the fault of the increased damage output brought on by the fight getting out-leveled (since its now so much easier to accidentally kill a doll if you just crit midare too big or something)
Bahamut - like Ultima, probably should be broken up. At the end of the day though, the trios are fun but arent as memorable as twin/nael. even golden (which is probably the most outdated ultimate phase at this point) has the hype factor going for it in a way that this doesnt
UCoB Adds - it's twintania and nael but now you have to do them both at once! somehow this makes both of them less fun/interesting
Ifrit - a tier lower than titan/garuda just because i dont like either doing or skipping dashes. whatever
C tier
Eyes/Rewind - just kinda there to make the narrative work. DSR suffers from having to show us the entire story twice. just skip some of that stuff (this is some of the stuff that shouldve been skipped or a cutscene or something)
Alexander Prime - I'm probably rating this lower than it deserves because the mystery was already solved by the time I did the fight. This is probably more interesting if you have to figure out the cat/heart stuff on your own. But with all that already well-known, it's just something of a filler phase. Wormhole is fine. J-waves are cool.
Golden Bahamut - the most outdated ultimate phase. At the time it was a cool new mech that nobody had seen before but now there are exaflares in normal mode dungeons so it's whatever.
Omega M/F II (Run Dynamis) - automarker is the controversy du jour right now i guess. i rated this phase lower because i think it sucks that they designed a phase that is so much easier with AM than without it. The other places people use AM are either just not necessary at all (DSR) or only a minor help (UWU). But this phase is so hard to do without it and so easy to do with it that it's really night and day. I hope that the devs learn a lesson from this and design phases more like DSR and less like this in the future.
D tier (the hot take zone)
vault knights - literally only exists so that rewind will make sense. not a bad fight on its own but when they realized they had to put in a checkpoint that shouldve been their indication that this was ok to cut. make rewind a cutscene its fine.
final omega II (blue screen) - what if there was a dps check
alpha omega - do you know how when in stb they took the coolest most fun button to press in the game and said "what if you pressed this button more. like a lot more" and then ruined warrior and fell cleave forever? this phase is like that, but for lb3. sometimes a button is cool precisely because you don't get to press it a lot. uwu lb3spam transition is S-tier by comparison, since that's doing a cool lb3 thing without overdoing it to the degree that this phase does. also ill never forgive it for killing double-caster compositions. (i know its technically possible but its so much tighter without that extra melee lb3 that people arent going to want to do it until new expansions make the dps checks all jokes)

Ok hear me out: a fallout story based on Alabama.
The main story could be some convoluted vault story, but it could be related to the idea that the local communities are all working in harmony with each other, until the enclave comes along trying to either A. Reform a higher governmental power, or B. To take over most if not all of the communities. You as a character, either vault dweller or just a random citizen of the alabama wilderness can choose a side, to either help rebuild the old America, or help the new world’s communities. A hotspot could be Birmingham, with a town being inside or around the steel mill, with the mill still producing steel in mass quantities for the local settlements. The story could take a turn where you end up as the marshal of a certain town, or the entire state, etc. I can see the music consisting of old timey bluegrass and folk music, like bill monroe, earl scruggs, etc. and the “Magnolia” of this story could be Poor man’s Poison, with there own music being featured as the main attraction for whatever major cities exist. The train lines could also be either a plot point or a means of travel. There could also be a General Atomics plant that produces a large quantity of robots with seemingly no human input, and that could be another side(or main) plot. A chryslus plant could house a band of raiders, and that could offer a new type of armor, and raider power armor. The BJCC could act as a forward operating base for the Brotherhood.
If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know!

GROUPLOVE Releasing New Album + Tour Dates
Tumblr media
Indie rock luminaries GROUPLOVE have exciting news for fans: their recent album, ‘I Want It All Right Now,’ will be released in a deluxe edition on May 10, enriched with six additional tracks. Among these, a standout is today’s release of a live version of the titular track “All,” recorded at Madison Square Garden. This rendition becomes particularly special with Jake Clemons of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band joining on the saxophone, transforming the song into an epic musical experience that transcends its original boundaries. In an interview with FLOOD Magazine last year, GROUPLOVE’s Christian Zucconi reflected on the significance of the track “All,” sharing, “From the start, we felt it was destined to open the album and give it its name. It represents our introspective journey during the album’s creation, posing the existential question, ‘Why do we always crave more than what we possess?’” Checkout “I Want It All Right Now” below: Hannah Hooper, known for her versatile artistic talent, has once again contributed her skills to the visual side of GROUPLOVE’s music, crafting the artwork for the album. Over the years, Hooper’s distinctive art has become as emblematic of the band as their music, embodying the band’s exploration and resolution of life’s complexities through every form of art they engage with. Over the last month, GROUPLOVE has been joined by Bully for the North American Rock And Roll You Won’t Save Me Tour. Fans who missed the tour or simply want more need not despair as the band has upcoming festival performances this summer at Wildflower! Festival, Bonnaroo and Oceans Calling. And by popular demand, GROUPLOVE has been added to 9 new dates this fall supporting P!nk. See all upcoming tour dates here and below. UPCOMING TOUR DATES May 17 - Richardson, TX - Wildflower!
