ms marvel is a project that's not only featuring a largely south asian cast, but it also has many poc behind the scenes. the head writer of the show is bisha k. ali, who is british-pakistani. directed by adil el arbi, billal fallah, meera menon, and sharbeen obaid-chinoy, all people of color. it is completely immersed in south asian culture, from the music to the clothing to even the bits of urdu casually thrown into their daily conversation. so by not watching it, you are letting marvel and the rest of hollywood know that you are not interested in media that is largely created by poc and depicting real, accurate poc experiences and culture. this is the very excuse marvel needs to go back to largely white casts with white writers and directors. i'm begging you to please please watch ms marvel and show it some love because this show means a lot to so many of us and its success opens up the gate to more representation in the mcu, not even just on screen, but also behind the screen

I'm unironcally glad that people on Tumblr are able to see the hilarity in the whole Bisha kerfuffle (I refuse to put gate on it cus I'm SO sick of everything being a something-gate lol). If I hadn't received a shitton of awfulness over the whole thing on twitter, I'd probably find it funny too. It's an objectively absurd situation.

But like... people tried to gaslight me over that shit every step of the way. First it was "he didn't actually say he was bi, stop putting words in his mouth," and then after The Tweet(tm) it was "how dare you be hurt over being lied to and having your sexuality used as a punchline! Stop hating him for being straight!" Which is truly a wild fucking take in a supposedly queer-friendly space, but okay. And there are probably STILL Misha stans who think I "hate him for being straight." Which is absurd. I don't like him because he's a genocide denialist. If you're going to hate me because of your parasocial daddy figure, at least be accurate about it.

Anyway, I didn't get to heal from the initial hurt of "wow, Misha thinks using my sexuality as a punchline is okay. wtf." Seeing it mentioned still makes me feel... whatever a step below triggered is. Like, there's the initial knee-jerk reaction of anger and going into defense over my own sexuality, but it doesn't *stay* that way. Maybe that will change now that I'm in a less hostile environment.
