Mixing digital tools with analogue games isn't for everyone. Many of us in the modern hobby games community prefer to switch off our smartphones, get away from our computer monitors or otherwise "disconnect" and instead spend some quality time with people face-to-face, playing together. Some of us are happy to compromise and allow apps or other digital tools to take part in game nights, at least to some extent. In this article, I want to look at some of this new technology and what it can add to the playing experience.

Board Game Stats è innanzitutto una applicazione a pagamento. Sì, lo so che molti di voi inorridiscono di fronte a questo scempio, capisco che per voi i programmatori di App sono come Miss Othmar per Linus ma anche loro sono, in parte, umani. Quanto costa? Il prezzo può variare e può arrivare a ben 2,99€, in pratica la commissione di tre ricariche della postepay per pagare tre Kickstarter (la tazza di caffè come unità di misura è ormai superata). Si trova sia per Android che per iOS. Per tutto quello che scriverò farò riferimento ad Android, perché quello ho (e su quello programmo).

L’App vi darà la possibilità di collegarvi al vostro account di BoardGameGeek, in tal modo vi ritroverete già tutta la vostra collezione indicizzata, in più vi è la possibilità di importare le partite già registrate sul portale, in modo da non perdere nulla. Fatto questo poi avrete la possibilità di inserire giochi autonomamente, sempre ricercandoli da BGG, inserire i vostri compagni di gioco (potete anche mettere la possibilità di inserire giocatori anonimi, sia mai che il/la vostr* partner di gioco non sia gelos*; amo/odio la distinzione dei sessi nello scrivere) e ovviamente registrare ogni singola giocata che farete.

Per la singola partita avrete la possibilità di inserire il punteggio, la data, la durata, il primo giocatore, commenti vari, immagini, il luogo e perfino selezionare la partita come incompleta o non valida per le statistiche, cosa che fa regolarmente Canopus quando perde. Un po’ alla volta, partita dopo partita, potrete analizzare le vostre sessioni di gioco, vedere il vostro rank, i giochi più giocati, eccetera eccetera. Volendo è possibile esportare i dati attraverso file CSV.

L’App mette a disposizione altri servizi a pagamento (il programmatore deve essere uno tosto e sicuro di sé), in particolare cito la modalità cloud, per sincronizzare le partite in modo che siano visibili anche su altri dispositivi collegati, una sezione detta Insights, dove vedere tanti bei grafici e tabelle, e una forma di gamification interna dove impostare una serie di obiettivi da raggiungere (quest’ultima ancora mi manca).
