PPT2 x PHIGHTING AU. Paper Gears Take 2?? Paper Phighters Take 2? Blocky Demons Take 2???

Explanation for gears and other details below the cut

Knight Helmet + Wooden Sword: In the show, Knight Helmet is often seen wielding a wooden blade. Which sometimes breaks. Its been said on a stream that Phighters STILL have to maintain their gears. Its also been said many times that the demons can dye their horns like hair, hence why the horns are a different color from the gear. So I figured that was a great opportunity to implement those details here.

Gamebot Berry + Gamaboi: There are a LOT of old handheld gaming device gears, but I chose the one closest to GBB's name. Its kind of self explanatory otherwise.

Post-It Note + Regen Coil: Post-It Note's face isn't tied to a particular note. And he isn't the most fortunate character. In the first season alone this guy was a massive punching bag. So a gear to quickly shrug off damage was the best pick. Regen Coil is the most convenient of the old healing gears I've seen since you can heal by just wearing it.

Brick + Trowel: Trowel gear makes brick wall. Self explanatory.

Malachite + Emerald Scatterblaster 2000: Self explanatory.

Journal + Wormhole Tunneler: Journal is well versed in science. If PPT2 1 and 3 is anything to go by, knowledge of portals and dimensions in particular. Wormhole Tunneler is pretty much a discount Portal Gun.

Brick(the PPT2 one) Object Head gijinka

I think it's funny that the lowest ranking contestant in season 1 is the one who's gijinka I revamped last...

NOW ALL OF MY TEAM ? GIJINKAS DESIGNS HAVE BEEN FULLY REVAMPED!! That also means the massive overhaul part of the PPT2 gijinka project is FINALLY done. Okay... I have to tweak and redraw some of the other designs to be more up to date... But those are relatively minor changes in the grand scheme of things. This also means I can FINALLY get to the rejects now that I know more about them.

Design notes and transparent image under the cut

I switched from a lumberjack look to a construction worker one because I felt it was more appropriate. Bricks are often used in construction work after all. That and I think it gives a bit of irony that this guy who gets easily irritated is dressed in a profession that involves sounds people find irritating. The fact that Brick canonically enjoys watching paint dry only made the idea even more perfect.

He still has his horns, they are just hidden in the hat and a proper part of the asset now. The thing on his face is NOT actual facial hair…. He just put cement on his face and called it a day. The fun part about doing object head gijinkas is finding out ways to make certain things resemble things humans have… I think I might have made him look more older than he's implied to be... Whoops.

Alternate versions and notes under the cut

When Post-It Note said that line, I was debating as to whether it was meant to be up to interpretation, or directed at either Bottle, Journal, or Post-It's own efforts throughout the season. Here, its directed towards Bottle because I only really realized that when I was ALMOST done with the whole thing. Uhhh... Oops??? I made Post-It's specs purple to at least get across the mixture of anger and sadness the guy had at the moment.

Happy 1st Anniversary to "Living on the Edge!".

Given that I have since finalized some of my gijinka designs such as Bottle and Ukulele, I felt this occasion was a good time to revisit it. I wanted to try a different approach to doing silhouette drawings while still keeping it relatively simple. Some characters like Bottle I had to take some liberties with the shading given how the designs would look as a silhouette. I also wanted to make sure the negative space made the drawings look more easier to read this time around. A lot of the poses had to change as a result of this.

As for Journal, I wanted to try out a new perspective to further contrast between him and the above contestants. It kind of fit given the background looked like a cartoon void from a worm's eye view. I still wanted to make the face symbolism apparent, so I didn't make the perspective too drastic.

FUNNY FACT: In the previous version, I drew Journal holding a wrench-like tool because I figured he would probably be off finding tools during his time in LotE. It should be noted that Journal was completely absent in the episode, which was a first for the season. Naturally this was a really really big deal given that the whole narrative pre-merge was pretty much built around trying to progress his story(why else do you think Team 47 won so many times?). When he finally made another physical appearance in the next episode, guess what he was wielding? A crowbar!! So to keep the drawing up to date, I replaced the device with a crowbar. How did I come up with the idea for the wrench looking thing? I just winged it. Not all of my design choices, gijinka or otherwise, have any big reason to be there.

Also speaking a year from the episode's release, I guess it's safe to say that the song the drawing is based on really does fit this show in it's current state. Heh...
