One fun detail I missed in Beowulf is that Beowulf and Grendel's mother are wearing little pool floaties in the Underwater Battle, and it's just kinda cute

ok so apparantly there are a lot of malloysical enjoyers that dont know how to listen to his hows that arent on spotify ! so here are all the steps spelled out for ya :)
first things first, you want to do this ON A COMPUTER!!! this does not work on a phone unfortunately. (to clarify, you can still listen on your phone, but you need to do the downloading and uploading on a computer)
ok so now that youre on a computer, what youre gonna want to do is go to davemalloy.com and click on the thing that says lindsay listens
some of them will have each individual song available for download and some of them will have one big zip file for the whole show. for example, clown bible has each individual song for download, and boewulf has a zip file.
for the individual download ones, you want to download each song (it helps to do it in order) and then go to your files, make sure you can find them and they're all organized.
for the zip file ones, you want to download the zip file, then go into the file and download each song from inside the zip file
now, you want to go to your settings on spotify and turn on the slider that says "show local files"
next, go to your library and click on the folder titled "local files" you should see the songs you downloaded earlier here.
now, you are going to put the songs you want in a playlist. i like to just make a playlist of the show in order so i can listen to it like an album
now you want to download the playlist on your computer.
if you want to be able to listen on your phone, make sure your phone and computer are on the same wifi. now, find the playlist that you made on your phone and download it. like magic, the songs will appear and you will be able to listen to your malloysical on spotify!
enjoy your listening!
(also, dont stop me doesnt have all the song on his website, but if you want to listen to it i might be able to help you wink wink)

If I had a pound for every Beowulf musical adaptation which had themes of Beowulf living forever through the stories told and also forcing Beowulf to confront the similarities between him and Grendel I'd have two quid which isn't a lot but it's odd it's happened twice

There's beauty in sitting you know.
1 note · View note
“you could just sit for a while, just sit and think” “one day I will finally stop running, there will be sunlight in the trees” “I will try to forgive myself for being absent in public and bored before stars” “we will lie down in the grass, let the morning hours pass” maybe slow down and appreciate life sometime

MALLOY CHARACTER DEATH BATTLE BEGINS!
We are currently in the preliminary rounds! Characters with only one submission are going head-to-head to whittle down the contestants before the proper battle begins.
Rules:
All characters must be from a musical associated with Dave Malloy
Matchups are decided based on number of submissions & a random number generator
Play nice! No harassment/bullying/etc
Please read the propaganda when voting, it's no fun if people only vote characters they've heard of :(
Think of each fight as a one-on-one duel, any skills and weapons are fair game, but no calling for backup!
Ties will result in the formation of teams
You may send extra propaganda in asks while a poll is still running
Preliminary Bracket:
Tumblr media
We are going to be posting each round of the preliminaries a day at a time (so, four polls a day), as soon as they're up we'll link them all here! If you asked to be tagged, we'll tag people as soon as all the preliminaries are up.

KaF3Countdown - Magic/Folklore
When Feels came back from the shops to see Kane sitting on the floor, candles and loose bits of paper spread out in a ring around him, he didn’t pay it much mind.
“Afternoon, Luce,” he said, trying not to step on anything that looked too important as he made his way to the kitchen and dumped his bags on the table.
“Got us more milk.”
Kane made a distracted sound that probably meant thank you.
“You’re not going to burn more sigils into our carpet are you?”
At that, Kane did look up.
“That was one time!” he protested, in the way of someone who, from plenty of past experience, knows exactly how the conversation is about to go. “And I got rid of them.”
“You moved the desk over them,” Feels pointed out.
“I moved the desk over to the window so we could both get some more sunlight whilst working.”
“It doesn’t even fully cover the damage.”
“You suggested I needed more vitamin D, I might add.”
“Look at those scorch marks near the front corner.”
Kane threw a pencil at him, which missed by a good few centimetres. The worst part was that Feels was entirely in the right.
“That’s why I’m writing everything on paper this time. If they ignite again, they’ll burn themselves out before the fire has a chance to spread.”
That…
That wasn’t the worst idea Kane had ever had, Feels was forced to admit.
“What’re you doing with it?” he asked, rather than say that thought aloud. He was only half-listening for Kane’s answer as he put the milk in the fridge, then went back to the bags to fetch the cheese.
“Summoning a dragon.”
A thud as Feels dropped his cheese.
A pause.
“Luce,” he said slowly. “Do you remember the bit about not setting fire to our flat?”
“It won’t! Really, Brutus, you could have some more trust in me.”
There was no chance of Feels winning this particular argument. And, maybe, if he was really being honest, he didn’t want to win. The thought of seeing an actual dragon was one hell of an incentive, even given the fiery risks.
He sighed, picked up the cheese.
“Well, don’t let me stop you.”
Kane grinned at him, an infectious smile Feels was compelled to return.
“Þa se wyrm onwoc-”
Wait-
“That’s Beowulf,” Feels interrupted. “Why are you reciting Beowulf to summon a dragon? Don’t you need something a little more… magical-spell?”
Kane looked less-than-impressed at the break in his focus.
“If someone started chanting a story about you, that’d probably attract your interest, right? How do you even know that?”
“Some guy did a musical about it once.”
Kane made another sound, one that translated to that explains it. Turning back to the ring of paper, he cleared his throat and began reciting again.
“Þa se wyrm onwoc,
Wroht wæs geniwad,
Stonc ða æfter stane,
Stearcheort onfand
Feondes-”
He stopped.
Something was happening.
A shiver went down Feels’ back. He felt uncomfortably aware of his own teeth, and the air had started to smell purple.
Reality compressed in on itself, then, just as quickly, sprang back into place with a sproing which wasn’t heard so much as felt.
Feels blinked.
“Oh my god,” he breathed.
The amazed laugh that came from Kane meant he wasn’t imagining it either.
There was a dragon in the centre of the paper ring. A tiny thing, barely half a metre tall at its shoulder, with a squat body, thick neck, and wings that looked more vestigial than actually useful for flying. Two horns curled out from the top of its head.
Feels blinked again.
“Is it weird to call it cute?”
Kane was already kneeling down to get a better look. The dragon watched his movements with bright amber eyes, but let Kane run a hand down its ridged scales with no complaint.
“It is cute, isn’t it?”
“What’re you going to do with it?”
Kane’s hand was too close to the dragon’s mouth now for Feels’ comfort. He wondered how you’d explain fingers being bitten off by a dragon to A&E.
“Do you need a permit to keep one in your house?”
“Probably not, but only due to a lack of imagination on the government’s part. I expect the RSPCA wouldn’t be impressed.”
His sentence trailed off.
Kane shuffled backwards quickly, motioning for Feels to do the same.
A clicking sound, not unlike a lighter, came from the dragon’s throat. It hiccupped, then coughed a small, fizzing, spark onto the floor.
They watched in silence as the carpet began to smoulder.
