I apologize if there's something already on your blog about this and I didn't find it, but I was watching tailgate party and realized that Shiv had spent the entire episode pacing around one apartment complex 6000 steps over and that the Roys do this a lot.
My memory of the last few seasons is fuzzy (<- binged it before and now doesn't remember shit) but I feel like the Roys spend a lot of time in very large, usually open spaces, with wide walls and tall ceilings, and usually ones we've seen before or are expected to see again and that a lot of important scenes happen *outside* of these spaces. Important meaning either big moments or iconic ones or sometimes just transitonary. Kendall had his Next-Jesus moment out in the ocean, Tom started throwing water bottles in that cramped ass escape room or talked about his marriage out on the beach, the entirety of Kill List happens outside of ATN offices, Logan meets Mattson for the first time on a personal island, Roman went to a random one story office environment for a fucking business school and was never the same character (well. compared to S1 Roman) again, they have that reverse Jesus thing over cruises on a cruise ship, etc. I feel like plane scenes could both fit into this or break it depending on the season but at least for other scenes I feel like there's a pattern here.
Outdoor spaces or parts where they actually put their shoes outside onto sidewalk always feel semi important to me but it doesn't even have to be outdoors specifically. Like, even just the honeymoon suite was different enough from every other building we'd seen the show have, and that's when Shiv admitted to cheating!
Do you think there's something to this, or do you have your own thoughts? I'd be interested to hear more if only to appeal to my ego ;-). There's other things that could connect to this like the grey-white-brown-dark blue color palette damn near every scene is in vs. scenes with real color inside of them and Kendall's asking why Sophie was "on the street" being indicative of how he thinks she should be raised (based on how he was raised and also how he can recognize the manipulation and abusive inherent to his father's parenting but not the more subtle isolation and neglect) and the fact the Roys are literally running an actual rat race while trapped inside Waystair Rocyo 1/2 the time but I have to stay focused on one thing when I write shit down even if I'm connecting dots in my head or else this ask won't even be remotely legible.
[If you already wrote about this - sorry! I hope this makes sense. Either way, have a good night, and fingers crossed something fun happens at Logan's funeral. I still want Tom to fight someone. It won't happen but it'd be funny as hell lol]
yeah i haven't really written anything comprehensive on this, but i do think there are a few interesting points with regards to how the show uses the characters' environments. forgive me for bullet-pointing lol, maybe you can help string these things together into something more cohesive. but:
yes, the characters often spend most of an episode trapped in one location, even one building. in part i think this is a function of the presence of playwrights on the writing staff, and the way many episodes flirt with the three classical unities of tragedy writing (time / place / action). so, lots of episodes are 1 day only, or 2 or 3 max, and often a character will be mostly confined to one location during that span. in part this helps make each individual episode really tight internally, but it also contributes to that persistent sense that the characters are trapped (within their circumstances, company, family, etc)
indoor vs outdoor is an interesting thread. one thing that has always stood out to me is that the show has a tendency to use natural sunlight not as refreshing, enlightening, etc, but as blinding, overwhelming, and even dangerous. the sun almost kills logan in s3, there are those shots in 2x10 and 3x09 where everyone's squinting in the bright light, there's a similar effect in 'austerlitz', etc. this contributed to the overall sense of discomfort that the roys experience, despite all their material luxuries; it also contributes to the sense that nature and the natural world is an alien, external force that appears threatening—this sense also comes out in all of the animal metaphors they use, which emphasise the brutality they see in the animal kingdom and in nature generally
if we're talking places, i also must bring up the presence of bathrooms on the show. these are quotidian rooms, but also dangerous ones, in the sense that they exist to purge a civilised society of its filth, and the whole process tends to be marginalised and wilfuly ignored. so, i've always liked that succession has a lot of scenes set in bathrooms, and often characters are able to speak differently in the bathroom—sometimes more intimate (kendall and stewy, tom and logan in 3x05), or more direct (greg and logan in 2x08), or they're allowed to say things they couldn't elsewhere (roman and mencken). bathrooms are also sheltered personal spaces, where the characters can retreat and hide (kendall using them to do coke, shiv practicing a smile in 1x02, greg rehearsing his congressional testimony)
the waystar offices obviously have that very 21st-century glass-and-steel aesthetic that telegraphs new money, a certain neoliberal attempt at severance from systems of social and cultural meaning-making, etc. so, moving the characters to other locations is effective because, in contrast to the kind of soullessness of the waystar building, it makes the other places stand out and emphasises the meaning we can glean from the sets alone (like, the gut-punch of dodds's house in contrast to the sort of corporate default)
in regards to the idea of control and confinement within luxe spaces—yes, this is clearly something we see many of the environments convey (the ultimate expression of this being the anti-suicide wall that logan puts up to pen kendall in). this is really a discrete material expression of how waystar operates in a broader sense, constraining people whilst appearing to create more options and more freedom (also a basic characteristic of neoliberal modes of production, lol)
again i'm not sure i have a thesis statement here unifying all of these observations lol. but i do think the show does well at using its environments and settings to tell us a lot about the characters, the company, and the broader world they inhabit.

in an alternate universe leon and baby rat become public brcause matthew sets them as him as his homescreen and accidentally gets papped during arrival with his phone open. there's only one app on the page
skdhfhskfhfhf anon how does it feel to be deeply deeply correct. i think in every universe that is his homescreen background (it's leon and baby asleep on the couch) but in the canon (hashtag canon) universe he has enough presence of mind to at least cover that shit up in icons and have his lock screen be some generic tasteful sunset beach pic or team logo

100 of my favorite non hip hop releases from 2022. I made a seperate list for hip hop already which you can find here if you’re interested. 2022 will go down as a memorable year for me not just for the sheer quantity of great releases, but also because i feel that all my of my favorite genres had a chance to shine. I started returning to my hardcore/punk/metal roots within the last couple years and 2022 was the first time in recent memory where I really felt like I was fully tapped in. There were so many highly anticipated releases from a ton of different artists last year, and the majority lived up to the hype for me. Grindcore, Mathcore, and Post-Hardcore seems to have been making a huge comeback with some incredible new efforts from modern genre staples like Wormrot, Callous Daoboys, Brutus, Greyhaven, Birds in row, Knoll, and Cloud Rat. Not to mention the much welcome return of some legendary acts including Gospel, Sawtooth Grin, and City of Caterpillar. I’m sure there’s plenty of stuff I missed out on too, so feel free to hit me with any recommendations you might have or just let me know what projects you enjoyed the most last year. Whats your fav jjba episode?
mAN.. thats really a hard one to awnser??
OK OK,,, if you will allow me i can probably pick a fav or two per part
i think my all time fav episode IS the rat hunting episode, its a DiU ep, its got rats, and its a cute silly ep with jotaro and josuke and jotaro almost dies in the funniest way he coulda so it kinda hits a lot of fav elements for me
BUT
Phantom Blood: honestly? its hard to say because i think the manga is better and the anime was weirdly segmented for eps. it kinda slumps in the middle for me
so i think I like the Youth with Dio ep, something about it is very fun to me...
Battle Tendency: OUGH so this ones hard because i think p solidly i loVE the first ep
i think Joseph at the start of Battle Tendecy carried the strongest best traits of Joseph that Araki kinda left behind, like being really nice and passionate about things that mattered even if it put himself in danger, as well as having a hair trigger fight response when it cames to ppl bothering him, or more importantly bothering the people he cares about.. they cut out a bit of him and erinas bestie stuff from the manga which is sO sad
but i think "New Yorks JoJo" captures my favirote snap shot of silly fun bastard joseph that i love that he lost, with so many funny antics and such and his FUCKIGN SIGHT WITH STRAIZO IS SOO GOOD
BUT if i didnt go with that, id had to go with the chariot fight ep, so kinda two eps as this spans over both with the "a True Warrior" and "A Warrior Returns to the Wind" WHICH THE LATER EP TITLE MAKES ME SOOO WEEPY GOOD LURD ILY WHAM
Stardust Crusaders: SO THIS ONE IS HARD BECAUSE ITS SO FUCKING LONG AND SO MANY CHUNKS OF STUFF SPAN 2 AND 3 PARTERS
but mmm probably one of the D'arby fights,,, its hard to pick my fav? they both are really iconic and their the ones i remember the best/most fondly out of all Stardust tbh
Diamond is Unbreakable: LIKE I SAID THIS IS PROBABLY THE RAT HUNTING EP ITS SO GOOD I LOVE IT SO MUCH LOL
i really think nearly every ep in DiU is really great, i think their all classic and i really dont have many i find a drag like i tend to in other parts. the yukako eps are really fun, LETS GO EAT ITALIAN FOOD IS A CLASSIC, THE INVISIBLE BABY EP, the intro ep for rohan are great just for the ending where josuke kills him <3, MIKITAKA EP!!! UGH a lot of good ones
but the rat hunting ep wins for me, for having a rat in it
Golden Wind:.. im so sorry this ones kinda easy only because.. i dont... really like golden wind as a whole
But its Spice Girl vs. Notorious B.I.G. i think its the best fight in the whole part and its a big reason i wish trish gotten to do more. i would KILL for a trish and bruno team up fight....
dont get me wrong i loVE a lot of other fights, Narancia and formaggio fight is fun, the secco fight is sO fun, i also love the greatful dead and Beach Boy fight
but 100% its the spice girl ep for me, i think its really fucking excellent
Stone Ocean: AGAIN A TOUGHY BECAUSE I REALLY DO LIKE ALL OF STONE OCEAN VERY MUCH
but fuck dude, i think just based off the top of my head, its either the gwess fight or the mcqueen fight. i think i just love how silly they are, the gwess and mcqueen are my poor little meow meows
BUT UGHHH the Limp Biskit episode really is a good one to man... i rEALLY loved watching that one with no prior knowledge
AND THE DRAGON DREAM EP, but tbh while i LOVE FF and Dragon Dream in there, the ep and fight itself are fine. the concept fine just a lil boring
and ofc i love the brando bro eps, and rikiels was probably my favirote.
sdjkghjkd i think i just really liked the sILLY ones

The world of rock music has lost one of its brightest stars. Steve Harwell, the lead singer and co-founder of Smash Mouth, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at his home in Boise, Idaho. He was 56 years old. His manager confirmed that he died of liver failure, a condition that he had been battling for a long time. Harwell was not only a talented singer, but also a pop culture icon. He was famous for his distinctive voice and charismatic personality, as well as his hit songs such as "All Star" and "I'm a Believer". He had an amazing career in the music industry, spanning over three decades and selling over 10 million albums worldwide with his band. He also had a colorful life, marked by his passion for music.
He was born on January 9, 1967, in Santa Clara, California. He grew up in San Jose, where he developed an interest in rap music and joined a group called F.O.S. (Freedom of Speech). He later switched to rock music and formed Smash Mouth with his friend Kevin Coleman, along with Greg Camp and Paul De Lisle. Harwell was influenced by various artists, such as Elvis Presley, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and The Clash.
Harwell and his bandmates started their career in 1994, playing at local venues and festivals. They caught the attention of a radio station that played their demo songs, which led to a record deal with Interscope Records. Their debut album, Fush Yu Mang , was released in 1997 and featured their first hit single, "Walkin' on the Sun", which reached number one on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart and number two on the Hot 100 chart.
Their second album, Astro Lounge , was released in 1999 and became their most successful album to date. It contained their signature song, "All Star", which topped the charts in several countries and became a pop culture phenomenon. The song was featured in the soundtrack of the animated film Shrek , as well as other movies and TV shows. It also earned them a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group. Another popular song from the album was "I'm a Believer", a cover of The Monkees' classic song, which also appeared in Shrek .
Smash Mouth continued to release more albums in the 2000s and 2010s, such as Get the Picture? , The Gift of Rock , Summer Girl , Magic , and Rise and Shine . They experimented with different genres and styles, such as ska punk, reggae, country, and disco. They also collaborated with other artists, such as Baha Men, Eddie Money, J.D. McPherson, and Caravan Palace. Harwell also pursued a solo career, releasing two songs for the animated film Pororo: The Racing Adventure in 2013.
Harwell received many accolades and achievements for his music career. He won several awards from MTV, Billboard , Teen Choice , ASCAP , BMI , and others. He also performed at various events and venues around the world, such as the Super Bowl XXXVII halftime show, the World Series , the Olympic Games , Disneyland , and Carnegie Hall . He also appeared on several TV shows and movies, such as The Surreal Life , Rat Race , American Idol , Dancing with the Stars , Family Guy , Kim Possible , Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated , and SpongeBob SquarePants .
He died on September 4, 2023, after being in hospice care for final stage chronic liver failure. He is survived by his wife Michelle Laroque Harwell.
Harwell will be remembered as one of the most influential singers of his generation.

Kind of a simple post for today, been arguing with my art program lately so I made the icons for my clangen clans.
Tumblr media
Fallen Clan resides deep in the forest below the shadow of the mountain territory. They make their camp in a hidden grotto, safe from most predatory animals and Twolegs. Currently lead by Froststar, Fallenclan is a friendly clan, taking in cats from all walks of life as they believe everyone deserves at least one chance. The clan works together to hunt large rodents such as squirrel and rats. These cats are a robust, stocky breed who use their physical power to overpower their opponents.
Tumblr media
Out on the open plains, Wren Clan hunt for wild rabbit, young grouse and grassland dwelling birds. Their leader, Heronstar, leads them with gentle paws, forming alliances with their neighbors whenever possible. They believe cooperation with the other clans is the key to the survival of their own. However, when they must fight, the cats of Wren Clan use their agility and stealth to gain an advantage. Outsiders are often tolerated, but kittypets are not allowed with in the clan.
Tumblr media
The fierce Vision Clan resides just beyond the plain along the beach, nesting away from Twolegs amongst the tide pools. They feast on sea life, from fish to octopus and the occasional sea bird. Their leader, Shiverstar, is untrusting of outsiders and rarely ever accepts outsiders into the clan (there have been a few exceptions in recent days however.) The cats of Vision Clan have slick, water resistant pelts due to living on the coast for many generations. They also believe the tidal pools grant them a closeness to Starclan no other clan can claim.
Tumblr media
Sitting high in the mountains, Whispering Clan silently stalks. These cats rarely ever face the lowland clans outside the Gathering but often have to face off with rogues and loners. In these conflicts, Whispering Clan's warriors almost never have to unsheath their claws, using their intimate knowledge of the mountains to win any battle they are forced to fight. Being in the mountains, Whispering Clan feels closest to Starclan, their camp practically touching Starclan itself. Their current leader, Whisperingstar, tries to lead his clan through Starclan's wisdom.

What would be your dream vacation?
I'd love to go on a trip around japan... visit Hokkaido to see the snow, visit Tokyo for Akihabara and Kabuki-Cho, down to Osaka to visit Dotenbori, Wakayama to see Tama-chan's shrine at Kishi Station.
That or visit the US. There's a couple states I'm interested in. Oregon, Portland, might as well visit Cali while I'm on that side. Visit Venice Beach, visit famous GTA V locations. I wanna see my ingame apartment IRL. It actually exists. I'd wanna go to Wisconsin, I need a cheese hat among other lovely things in the cheese state, also go to NYC. Skip the Empire State Building. I need to see two things; a bodega cat and a pizza rat. Visit iconic locations from Stuart Little 1+2.
Also wanna see hamsters and squirrels while I'm there. And try the infamouse cheese spray stuff I've heard so much about.

I saw a tweet trying to claim Timothee isn’t the closest thing we have to a big movie star but I disagree. I think Wonka and Dune opened the doors for him to be a huge box office draw which is what was lacking for him before. He already has a versatile filmography with big directors and has builded solid relationships with them. He had Scorsese directing one of his fashion campaigns. And he has people like Leo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise giving him career advice. I think his career will only get better once he turns 30. Anya Taylor Joy is for sure rising as a big movie star and she has done quiet a few good things as well before. I think Furiosa is what will give her the big box office numbers as a leading lady. Florence Pugh is a critical acclaim darling and she has crafted a name for herself - she just isn’t a box office draw actress yet. I think Austin Butler is building himself out there… he is making his way with interesting choices. There’s a few names that I think aren’t making waves yet but will be soon enough such as Cailee Spaeny.
Zendaya is a very interesting topic to me because she’s a great actress but I think her hype doesn’t match up with her portafolio. She doesn’t have a diverse filmography or enough accolades in the movie industry. She has yet to prove that she’s someone that can be versatile and live up to her hype. She’s been in many franchises but never as the lead role or main character being targeted for the audience. I think Challengers is a big one for her because it will challenge her status as a movie star/critically acclaimed actress and if she really can pull off numbers on the box office as a titular character.
I think there will never be someone like Jlaw that was able to make huge numbers with original content and not just IPs or franchises but the truth is that the movie industry is way different than before - there’s way more content to consume than it was before. But I feel like her era of dominating both fields was iconic.
I’m so late replying but in the meantime Timothee has signed an ongoing first look deal with Warner Bros Discovery to star and produce so um. Yeah. That person is fuckin wrong and you’re bang on the money. I agree!! 2021 on things have truly shifted in his career. He went from indie acclaimed darling/rising teen heartthrob star/Oscar nominee to proven box office draw. Okay, I do see the argument, he’s been in existing franchises. He needs to lead an original romcom (a la Anyone But You) or original action movie (a la Tenet) or original crime drama (a la… nothing in ages sadly lmao, if we’re talking successes since everything’s a remake or sequel or based on a book or video game now, but anyway). EVEN STILL. He’s pretty A list now and there are v v few Gen Z actors who can say the same. I agree. He’ll def have to keep up the momentum + not make too many mistakes, like the ppl giving him advice is v promising. I agree about ATJ and I too think Furiosa will be HUGE for making her a star in her own right. I agree about Florence too. She’s known but not like. By everyone idk. Agreeeed about Austin and Cailee, sooo many are on the cusp !
I would also add that Harris Dickinson and Joe Alwyn are potentialllyyyy on the cusp but they’re both more of indie boys who are slowly getting more mainstream, like years behind where Timmy was in like. 2018. Ya feel? But for Harris, The Iron Claw is a biggie (loved him in Beach Rats myself) and for Joe I think this new Yorgos movie (Kinds of Kindness) could help him bc of the Poor Things momentum/acclaim for Yorgos in theaters. Not just bc I’m a stan but also Paul Mescal. He’s definitely an indie darling but has risen pretty fucking fast (Normal People breakthrough, Aftersun with that Oscar nom, All of Us Strangers, etc) but he’s leading Gladiator 2. That is HUGE. Big make or break moment for him but genuinely he has the look + talent for movie star. So we shall see.
I think you’re exactly right about Zendaya. And like having the pressure of leading a Luca Guadagnino movie that’s been delayed a ton is not an easy task. I really hope it does well lol I’m in her corner for sure. But yeah I think people definitely do bank on her star power and like her producing and stuff but I could see it being like either she stays in prestige TV and non-risky movies like she has been so far, or she becomes a full blown movie star. And who knows which yet! She’s so young.
Oooh it really was and it was right when everyone was online but streaming wasn’t ubiquitous yet. A very particular and interesting time. I agree.

Barry Keoghan That Little Freak Shirt - Shibtee Clothing
Barry Keoghan That Little Freak Shirt from Shibtee Clothing pays homage to the Irish actor's breakout role in Christopher Nolan's 2017 war epic Dunkirk. In the film, Keoghan delivers a haunting performance as a troubled British soldier who joins the evacuation efforts from the beaches of Dunkirk.
Though only on screen briefly, Keoghan's character leaves an indelible impression with his unnerving demeanor and penchant for disturbing antics like catching and releasing rats 🐀. His intense line delivery of "I'm that little freak" as he introduces himself has since become one of the most memorable moments from Dunkirk.
Released in 2019 to coincide with Keoghan's rising fame after acclaimed roles in The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Eternals, Shibtee Clothing's That Little Freak Tee celebrates this iconic scene. Printed on a soft black cotton t-shirt, the front features Keoghan's face in muted shades of gre - vhh1v5mqt7

Burj Khalifa
When it comes to tall buildings, the Burj Khalifa is hard to miss. At 829.8 metres (2,722 feet), the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world. Located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates built and owned by one of the top developers in Dubai, Emaar Developers. Designed by Adrian Smith and engineered by Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill (SOM) in 2009, the Burj Khalifa has held the title of the tallest building ever since.
The Burj Khalifa has 154 floors graced with offices, residential property for sale in Dubai in the form of apartments, and the Armani Hotel inside. The exterior of the building is covered in glass and metal panels, giving it a modern look where the architecture is identified as Neo-futurism. Visitors can take an elevator to the top of the building at Level 148 to get a bird’s eye view of Dubai from the observation deck.
If you’re looking for a breathtaking view and some interesting architecture, be sure to add the Burj Khalifa to your list of places to see in Dubai!

Visitors can walk through a glass tunnel that runs through the centre of the aquarium, providing an up-close look at the underwater world. The aquarium also has a shark tank, where visitors can scuba dive with sharks. While an Underwater Zoo brings visitors up close with penguins, piranhas, crabs, water rats, sea horses, jellyfish, and other aquatic lifeforms. The latest addition to the mix is the King Croc, regarded as a rare phenomenon of nature and one of the world’s largest reptiles weighing over 750 kg.
He shares the space with his partner of 20 years in the Underwater Zoo. So make sure to visit them when you are in the area.
