in my mind there’s a sort of sequel show to The Fall in which Olivia is the main character and it’s like 2027. she’s working for a politician that’s known for supporting Irish unification and that politician (a woman) has been getting death threats that the police aren’t taking as seriously as Olivia believes they should. so in a last ditch attempt to get the situation resolved, she finds Stella all the way in London. but gasp! Reed answers the door. Olivia asks for Stella and then they talk and Olivia tries to convince Stella to come back because they’d listen to you, they remember you and she says that she’s read some of the files from Stella’s investigation into her father and that she’s talked to some of the officers and they remember how unapologetic she was about her sexuality and her antisexism. Olivia is sure that with Stella’s support and intervention, the death threats will get more attention. initially, Stella refuses to go back to Belfast, but after talking it over with Reed, she agrees to go, and Reed comes with her. this time, she’s just made a consultant, but she and Reed reconnect with some old faces—Ferrington, for one—who’s made SIO of the investigation. a few times, Olivia visits her mother, and her brother Liam’s brought in at some point as a lawyer. the point is really to get closure for the both of them—for Olivia by having someone to truly talk to about it that she remembers from that awful time in her life, and for Stella by seeing the aftermath of the investigation & being reconnected with Katie to see how she’s turned her life around and become a music teacher.

Please tell me more about RTC Lemonade Mouth this is everything I need
ahhh glad to!!!
disclaimer: since the characters in lemonade mouth have such distinct personalities, as well as rtc. a character may have more than one rtc character that fits for them because of something specific that happens in their storyline, if that makes sense?
olivia- mischa & ocean okay so if ocean was never a choir kid I can imagine her just focusing on academics, and at the beginning of the movie the rest of the characters hear olivia sing and they're like "damnnn" so I feel like that gives very ocean vibes. also, she's the lead singer and that's right up ocean's alley. now, I also put mischa because this character also has a heartbreaking scene where she confesses to the band that her father is in prison and it's basically tearing her apart. I don't want to change mischa's story at all, so there would be a part in this au where he confides to them about missing his mom and being scared. which is when they sing more than a band in the movie
wen- noel I picked noel for wen because wen's story with his dad getting a new wife, and him not knowing how to handle it.. reminds me of noel. (if you weren't aware, it's canon that noel's father left him and his mother) so, I can imagine noel's mother and him not knowing how to handle this new life because all of these changes. he definitely strikes me as a person who says they handle change well.. but really don't. then his mother meets a guy and they make plans to be married which turns his whole life upside down. also, olivia (half of mischa) has a fight with wen about not appreciating the family that he has— I feel like I can translate that as nischa very well. also olivia and wen have a lot of cute moments where they bond anddd yes this is an excuse for me to have more nischa
stella- penny okay yes I'm including penny in this au I love her with my whole heart. I chose stella to be penny bc from what I understand (disclaimer: I've actually never read legoland) she's a bit on the chaotic side when it comes to her actions. which is exactly what stella is, she's 100% spontaneous from the beginning to the end. also stella gets the rest of the band arrested and I think that would be on brand for the dynamic they would have if penny was in rtc lol
mo- constance so the quick answer to this is that mo has trouble with her family because they want her to do one thing and she wants to do the other. which reminds me of how constance feels tied to her town and her parents don't seem bothered by it at all. also, she's so gone sung by constance?? perfection
charlie- ricky honestly charlie's almost shy nature, and oblivious to his own sarcasm honestly just reminds me of ricky. I'd have to refresh on what charlie's story is to better fit him..I remember that he had a crush on mo but I'm not gonna have him have a crush on constance so idk lol
I think for karnak he's either going to be the music teacher who's running low cause of budget cuts or have mel's lemonade be changed to karnak; an alternative to that is have father marcus be the teacher and have karnak be the name of the lemonade stand. hm.. I'm leaning towards the second option tbh

Spoiler warning
TL;DR horrible adaptation, but very enjoyable on it’s own
(Also just wanted to say I was so sure I was going to hate this bc of what’s different but they changed so much the cartoon and the live action are barely connected in my head)
Okay my review will be split up into two parts: fate: the winx saga as an adaptation and as a standalone work
As an adaptation:
0/10. Maybe 0.5 if I’m being generous.
The things that were unchanged from winx club:
There are characters named Bloom, Stella, Musa, Aisha, Sky and Riven
Aisha, Bloom, Stella and Sky resemble their cartoon counterparts
Riven is an asshole
Bloom is a dumbass
Magic exists
The specialists exist
Main characters go to schools for magic and specialists respectively
The dragon flame is a thing
Witches exist
Other than that it’s a completely different show. The plot vaguely resembles season 1 of winx club only in that Bloom is trying to discover her true heritage. Musa, who is supposed to of East Asian descent is not, Flora was not included and in her place is a different character with similar powers, Tecna was excluded entirely ( I believe this was to distance the show from the futuristic elements of winx club and focus only on fantasy, which doesn’t make sense since they changed Musa’s powers ).
The magic system was changed. Fairies don’t on the regular transform since in the show the know-how to do so was lost, though Bloom does unlock the ability in the finale. Instead of each being a fairy of an individual concept, everyone’s powers ale element based, with Musa’s powers being changed to her being an empath. While this does feel more generic, it makes more sense from a world building perspective and I can see why they changed it.
The fashion is horrible. You will never be able to convince me teenagers dress like that. One of the reasons the original cartoon was enjoyable was all the colourful, fun clothing. The clothes feel dated and too mature for the characters, like I can see a twenty-something person in 2013 wear some of those outfits. It especially feels like a missed opportunity since 2000’s fashion is coming back into style.
The characterization of some of the characters compared to winx club was hit and miss. Riven was an ass and Bloom was impulsive and naive, which is accurate, but Stella, oh Stella was a disappointment. Stella was a jealous, manipulative bitch, which in context of her character backstory makes sense, but is so far from her original portrayal. Cartoon Stella was spoiled and at times self centered, but she was also genuinely kind, helpful and bubbly. To see her character take a 180 and become the all too familiar jealous ex archetype was upsetting.
Now, aaaaall that being said, I don’t believe we should judge this as an adaptation. They changed so much that it is quite literally a new story. So let’s see how it stands up on it’s own.
Summary, taken from the wiki
The series tells the story of Alfea, a fictional boarding school where teenagers study. The world inside this universe is not only magical and full of monsters, but it is also a world of real teenagers who do the most common things: make friends and enemies, go out and of course... fall in love. They are eager to find their place in this world. This universe is different from the one we have all known for a long time.
The attention is focused on a group of proud teens, also well-designed female characters. Sometimes they are heroines, sometimes weak girls. Sometimes they are friends, sometimes rivals. Of course, they are not perfect, but they are real. A group of girls who did not know each other until they are included in the same team inside a school that is strange to them. They will meet forces that are beyond their control and things they do not understand. But, throughout the series, they will find themselves, form an indestructible bond, and transform into powerful and strong girls, ready to change not only the supernatural world, but also ours.
Character summary:
Bloom is a newly discovered fairy from the human world who is attending Alfea college in the otherworld. There she meets her new roommates: chatty Terra, athletic Aisha, uptight Stella and stand-offish Musa. She also meets Sky, Stella’s ex, who is training as a specialist.Shortly before coming to Alfea, Bloom discovers she has magic powers by almost burning her house down and killing her parents. She is distraught over this and it is why she is eager to gain control of her powers. It is discovered that Bloom is a changeling, a barbaric practice where a fairy baby is exchanged with a human one. This leads Bloom on a quest to discover her true heritage.
Musa is an empath, she can feel the feelings of everyone around her. To shut them out and escape she listens to music through her headphones. This leads to her initially coming off as uncaring when Terra tries to get to know her better.
Terra is an earth fairy with a particular talent for making plants grow. She is very nice and chatty, eager to make friends, but not afraid to stand up for herself. She struggles with finding someone to like her and compares herself to “cool girl” Beatrix who has boys following after her.
Aisha is a water fairy who swims twice a day every day. She comes off a a good person who wants to make friends and do the right thing. She also tries to do everything in her power to protect her friends.
Stella is a light fairy and princess of Solaria, the realm in which Alfea resides. She is repeating her first year due to an event prior to season one where she lost control of her powers and blinded her best friend. She is very uptight due to her perfectionist mother and tries to exert control in every other area of her life, when this doesn’t work, e.g. when someone flirts with her on-again-off-again boyfriend she gets jealous and causes trouble. She is also generally rude to the people around her.
Sky is a specialist legacy and Stella’s on-again-off-again boyfriend who has an interest in Bloom. His father was a famous specialist and he was raised by his father’s best friend.
Riven is Sky’s roommate, best friend and a genuine asshole. He insults and antagonizes everyone around him and gets involved with Beatrix. He seems dissatisfied with the life of a specialist.
Beatrix is an air fairy with a lightning powers. She seems mysterious and looks to be the villain of the season. She has enlisted the help of Riven and Dane.
Dane is a first year specialist who first seems to be friendly with Terra but gets sidetracked after spending time with Riven and Beatrix.
What I didn’t like:
The world building is sparse and the magic system is generic. I feel like things could have been better expanded upon. Throughout the show they bring up archaic fairy magic but it’s never really explained how that’s different from current fairy magic.
The interactions between Riven and Dane come off as a bit queerbait-y although they could be setting things up for a second season.
Everyone is constantly so rude towards Terra. Even her supposed friends are mean to her. What gives?
Stella was constantly rude to everyone but by the end they are all the best of friends when she really hasn’t changed much. Also Stella being the jealous controlling ex archetype and not enough people calling her out on her bullshit.
What I did like:
For a Netflix teen drama there is surprisingly little sex between the teenagers. This might be subjective but it was refreshing for me.
Again subjective but I could definitely relate to Bloom’s antisocial teen flashbacks
Beatrix was a fun villain
Though the story might be a little generic, I felt it was compelling throughout. I genuinely wanted to know what happened next.
The story was well paced. It never felt like anything was dragging along
Overall:
The show was definitely enjoyable to watch. There is a lot of room for improvement. It sometimes felt like different plot lines were unconnected and the costume choices leave a lot to be desired. Aside from that they set up a solid story and likable characters (some of whom I love love and love to hate) which I very much want to see further developed in the future. As a stand-alone work 6/10

Alya salt Alya married Nino at 19 after high school and had a kid but after a year they divorce bc of Lila. 18 years later Alya (time hasn't been too kind to her) is walking around Paris looking for a good story, sees Nino in a red carpet event and beside him is a 36 year old Marinette who looks no older than 26 with a 19/20 year old girl who turns out to be her daughter who was adopted by Mari once she married Nino a year after he divorced Alya and her daughter calls her out in front of paps.
I love me some Ninette
---
"Alya-"
"No, Nino, I'm done!" Alya snapped slapping her husband's hands away, a snarl clear in place. "You cheated on me, so you don't get to talk!"
"I didn't cheat on you!" In the next room, their newborn daughter was crying from the screaming. "Alya, Stella is a girl I work with! She's a fellow DJ, but she's ace! She has no interest in me whatsoever!"
"Like ace is an actual thing." Alya snorted scornfully, crossing her arms, her eyes narrowed. "Lila told me she saw you two kissing. I am your WIFE! I should be your first priority, not some hussy!"
"Lila?! You are still listening to Lila?! Did you learn nothing in collège?! Lycée?!" Nino thundered out, the crying in the other room getting worse. He tried to get himself to calm down by breathing out through his nose. "Get the hell out."
"What?" Alya sounded scandalized, before poking him hard in the chest. "You can't give me out of our apartment-"
"MY apartment!" Nino snapped back, pushing her hand away, before grabbing her arm and dragging her towards the door. "You don't pay for a single thing here, you can't keep a single job because of the tarnished reputation you caused yourself from believing in Lila!"
Nino shoved his wife out of the apartment and shut the door after her, locking it swiftly. He ignored the banging and screaming from the other side, instead running into the bedroom, scooping his wailing daughter into his arms.
"It's okay, starlight, it's fine.." He whispered as he rocked her, holding her close to his chest. "No one will hurt you, you'll be safe."
---
It had been a rough divorce. Alya had tried to get half of everything he owned, but her relentless screaming and cursing made the judge rule in his favour.
But what really egged him was that she never asked for custody of their daughter. Nino had known Alya hadn't been exactly thrilled at being a mother at nineteen, but no one was! No one was ready for that kind of responsibility, but he had vowed to stay with her, that he'd love both of them, he'd provide the best that he could. And he had, he was taking off as D J, his music was already getting huge hits and he was even getting revenue from his songs.
But that never seemed to be enough for Alya. She was blacklisted from most major news agencies, but never held any job she got for long. It was all because she was jealous of the grand things Lila said she had.
Lila. Fuck, Nino hated that woman. She had been the source of all of this. He remembered when Lila had first met his daughter. She had not so subtly said that now Alya's life was over with a baby, and it was a pity she hadn't aborted their daughter when she'd had the chance. Nino had screamed at her and had banned her from the apartment. But Alya kept going out and meeting her, eating up her bullshit.
Perhaps he was better off without Alya. Nino sighed and he walked through the city park, carrying little Daphné in her stroller. He had wanted out of that apartment, out of the place where he and Alya had planned their life together.
He was nineteen and already divorced. How sad was that?
"Nino? Nino Lahiffe?" The voice broke Nino out of his thoughts and his gaze settled on a young woman not standing far from him. Her large blue eyes met his, and he felt a tug of familiarity. "I can't believe it! Nino, it's so good to see you!"
Marinette. It was Marinette. The sight of her brought a smile to his face. She rushed over to hug him, but stopped sort when she saw Daphné.
"Oh! Is she yours?" Marinette cooed, looking so amazing with her dark hair pinned up and a pale rose pantsuit. She looked to well out together, the complete opposite of how he was feeling.
"Yeah. This is Daphné. Daphné, meet Marinette. I've known her since I was a kid." Nino smiled down at his daughter. He knew she couldn't quite understand him yet, but he liked to be polite afterall.
"Oh Nino, she's precious! Where's Alya at?" He saw the hesitation in her eyes when she asked that question, but she too had been raised to be polite.
"She..." Nino's voice trailed off before he cleared his throat. "She left me. She's not in our lives anymore."
"Oh, I'm so sorry." Marinette instantly took his hand in her own and squeezed it. "If you ever need anything, I'm here, Nino! Don't hesitate to call me."
And he knew by looking at her, she meant it.
---
In the three weeks, Marinette came by every day to help the best she could. And she was the best Nino has ever seen work with kids.
It took a few months before Nino could get up the courage to ask Marinette out on a date. He took her to a nice restaurant. He learned that she was about to launch her own brand, thanks to the help of Audrey Bourgeois.
He soon gained traction with his music. He even managed to film a few short films, when Marinette could baby sit for it.
It took him a year to finally kiss Marinette. She tasted so sweet.
It took him a month after that for them both to say 'I love you'.
It took him two years to ask her to marry him. She, of course, said yes.
Marinette's brand took off, Nino's music and directing was a hit. They were content, with their beautiful daughter, Daphné.
---
Alya scowled as she checked her phone. Why the hell wasn't Lila texting her back? She had promised Alya tickets to this premiere.
At the age of thirty eight-thirty, Alya still had little to no patience. And very little in ways of reining in her temper. Not that she really had to for anyone; her family wouldn't talk to her, neither would any of her old friends. All of the jobs she got were so jealous of her, they always found faults in her and fired her.
Whatever. She'd make it big. When she heard about this new upcoming director, she knew she had to try and score an interview for the blog she still kept. Then people would be begging to hire her.
But Lila never replied.
With a huff of frustration, Alya adjusted the tight black dress she wore. It was from when she was nineteen, but she was blind to it being far too small, it hugging her body in a very unflattering light.
She pushed her way through the crowd lining one side of the red carpet before the theatre. She glared at one of the security guards keeping her behind the velvet rope, before taking out her phone. She just had to get an interview!
She watched as the actors in the movie strode by. She called out their names, but didn't get a response.
Then the director stepped out from a stretch limousine. And Alya felt her heart skip a beat.
Nino looked so handsome. So tall and professional in his suit. With a stunning woman on his arm, dressed in a floor length, body hugging gown. She looked perfect, and it made Alya's jaw clench in jealousy.
She recognized the woman. It was Marinette. Of course it was Marinette, it was always Marinette, the liar...
Her heart stop at the next person to leave the limo. A young woman with long, dark wavy hair and golden eyes. She looked to be in her late teens, and beamed at her parents with obvious joy.
"D- Daphné!" The name was out of Alya's mouth before she realized. Her daughter's golden eyes landed on her birth mother and her brows drew together in confusion, no recognition flashing in them.
"Daphné, hurry up, we can't be late!" Marinette had stopped with Nino, and was smiling brightly at her daughter.
"Coming Maman!" Daphné rushed over to catch up, and the family of three posed for a few pictures, before heading inside.
And Alya stood there, shellshocked. And she stood there, even when everyone left. Even when the movie started inside. Even when it began to rain. And she began to cry.

honestly I don’t even think the problem with the new winx show is that it’s darker(TM). People keep saying: Why does it have to be dark, Winx was a fun show and this is just a stereotypical treatment! And in a way, yes, it has become very repetitive but we also shouldn’t forget that especially the first few seasons of Winx could be pretty dark - think about the finale of the first season. Those were really dark themes.
But even the other gritty themes, I can forgive. That’s like...the smallest problem there is. The problem is what they do with it. They could have easily gone a little darker and more mature simply by challenging some of the pre-conceived notions of the Winx-universe a little bit; dug a little deeper into some aspects of the original-series (world-building, gender roles, monarchy, poverty, the standing of witches in the magical society, how to use magical powers in general, canonically ambigious characters) - that were difficult to explore in a show for kids and young teenagers. All that might have provided interesting insights and plot-points for a more mature audience and I feel like they tried that by being a little more morally ambiguous. But considering that they have pretty much remodelled the entire Winx-universe and the magical dimension, an audience who knows the original series does not get the sense that this is in any way a smart commentary on it (because it isn’t) and anyone who hasn’t seen Winx isn’t really drawn into complex, innovative magical world - it’s just somewhere between Hunger Games and Harry Potter with very little energy put into creating a world. In fact, I feel like the first few episodes of the original show, with all its limitations - did more to create a complex world than Fate.
Also, instead of making the characters more complex and actually mature, they just slapped random adult-y themes onto each character.
And a) This just...fails to be authentic and b) makes it really hard to like the characters or be invested in them. That is not to say I dislike characters who smoke week and have threesomes and while I do find it a bit ...out-of-touch and cringy to do this with Winx Club of all shows, it’s not my problem here. My problem is that this seems to be the only concept of maturity they have or rather, it’s an absolutely distorted idea of teenagers projected on them by adult writers and at this point you have to wonder. Who is the target audience here? Because the original audience of the show has no interest in seeing their childhood characters do this stuff, actual 16yo likely don’t feel represented, and older people who didn’t watch the original show will have even less reason to stay invested.
Especially, because you get about 50 different scenes in every episode so it’s hard to really get invested in who’s currently drinking, smoking weed, lying, having a threesome or whatnot. These are not character traits – these are actions and since everyone is kinda doing it to some degree or another, it’s not one that defines any character in particular. In fact, the only one stands out (sad to say bc of the white-washed mess the character is) is Terra - because she’s the one actually struggling with this kind of environment and behaviour. And while she’s sad about struggling, nothing really happens with that. She just accepts it. There is no development in her actions.
But I think it’s Stella who’s the prime example here. Now, to clarify, I haven’t watched the full series yet because I find it really hard to get through but I think she’s a great character to illustrate the problem with:
Stella, in the original series, is bubbly, loving, can be a bit self-oriented but is actually very caring. She is actually very powerful but also doesn’t really like to train. She is passionate about fashion, art and loves to share these hobbies with others. These are things we learn pretty early on in this kids show where each episode has about 20 minutes.
If we look at Fate, we never really get to know her. The first impression we get is that she is very stand-off-ish, bitter, and downright manipulative. And I like villains so that’s not so much my problem beyond the …. “that’s supposed to be Stella????”-weird-off. And the thing is, with the backstory they have given her, it might make sense that this version of Stella might turn out that way - because she internalised that treatment from her mother. But here is the problem: Original-Stella is very, very likable. It’s very easy to get invested in her problems. But that’s not the case with new Stella and they don’t really take any steps to make us invested in her problems beyond telling her story. The scene where her mother insulted her magic and humiliated her was the first one where I felt something close to an emotion for her character – but that was because her mother is objectively horrible to her child, not because of Stella’s character in particular. This scene could have happened with literally any other character and I would have felt the exact same emotion.
As an example, the reason we are shocked by the idea that she might have blinded someone is mostly because we know the original Stella and this is so absolutely out character for her. If you only watch Fate, you might learn this information and be like: “Okay, wow, what an asshole.” - but that’s it. You’re not shocked that Stella of all people would do something like that because you haven’t actually seen the loving, joyful, bubbly Stella we encounter in the orignal series. Her personality is basically non-existent (and she’s one of the more complex characters), the audience hasn’t really shared any moments with her that particular endear her or convinced us that this is shocking for any other reason than a) this is a threat for Bloom and b) wow blinding your best friend is fucked up.
Or take Musa. In the original series, we actually spend a lot of time with Musa before we learn about her backstory. And we get to know her as a happy, cheerful girl who loves music. So finding out that she actually went through a lot of pain and hardship (especially by the standards of a kids show) was actually quite the change of pace – and finding out that her father doesn’t want her to do music and doesn’t encourage her was a development you didn’t see coming. Plus, the show dedicated a lot of screen-time to this instead of giving each and every character that walks through the screen in that episode their own problems. If you look at Fate, I have yet to discover anything that Musa is really passionate about, any particular personality traits – and each and every scene is: We now cut to Musa. Musa struggles with being an empath once more. Next scene. There is no development. No plan. No perspective other than it being useful sometimes. There is no revelation.
And I feel like this is where this show falls flat: The original winx club was a very immersive show on various layers: The characters as well as the world-building. But the characters in Fate barely have any personality whatsoever. The reason the Winx worked as heroes was because you had very distinct personalities and talents (at least in the first few seasons) and while it might seem more mature to have more nuanced characters, they actually continued the same gimmicky cartoon characterisations in many ways without actually adding complexity.

All Is Fair In Love and War
I actually wanted to post this on Valentine’s day. Last year. Whoops.
This is the PJO Au no one asked for. It’s also a mess, generation-wise. It has all gens mixed, bc why the hell not? No, really, I needed more half-siblings (I’m looking at you, Jazmín!)
Have fun reading!!!
Jazmín woke up with the biggest grin possible. But how could she not? Today was the best day of the year! And that included her birthday! While she changed into her knee-length dress with rose print, she checked her calendar. A big heart was drawn on the 14th day of February.
Valentine’s day.
Or the most important day of the year, according to her cabin. Oh, the Aphrodite kids just loved Valentine’s day. All the romance movies were on TV, everything was decorated in their mother’s colours and so many proposals were made and, of course, weddings officiated.
Silence hovered over the cabin, its other inhabitants still asleep. Jazmín had gotten up first since she still had to add a few things for Alexia’s birthday celebration. She was a bit envious of her youngest half-sister. Being born on Valentine’s day, just how awesome was that?
As soon as Jazmín had placed the chocolate cake on the mahogany table, the ground floor of the cabin slowly filled with her half-siblings. “Morning,” Alaia chirped, being in a good mood as always. Her twin sister, however, looked a bit drowsy. “I binge-watched Riverdale,” Amaya revealed without being asked, yawning, “But all the couples were so obvious… I don’t know why I did that.”
Jazmín nodded, totally understanding her. Aphrodite children really did have a sixth sense when it came to relationships. They could always tell who was together with whom and predict with terrifying accuracy who would eventually get together. It made everything on TV sort of boring, Jazmín always knew which characters would end up together. Sadly, this power didn’t work on herself or her half-siblings. The only chance they had was to see if their couple instinct would kick in, showing them if their crush would end up with someone else. It really sucked, Jazmín knew that from experience. She still wasn’t completely over the eldest son of Hephaestus. Oh, she had been so miserable, but she just had known that it would only end in tears, because Simón would eventually get together with Ámbar in the future.
Said daughter of Nemesis, of course, always dismissed this feeling as a “freak love hallucination”, insisting that it would never happen. Yeah, Jazmín had heard that a few times before. And where were they now? Busy being married to the person she had predicted. See? Her couple instinct was never wrong.
“It’s because you’re single,” her younger half-brother, Manuel, joked. “Maybe I should start playing cupid for all of you once the competition is over.” Amaya shot him an annoyed look.
“Oh, please do,” Alaia begged, obviously tired of being single. “I’ll help,” her other, much younger, half-brother Diego yelled, quickly making his way over to the table. Eloísa and Mia walked right behind him. “Where’s the birthday girl?” Mia, the only brunette among the girls asked. Godly DNA was really strong. Only she and Manuel didn’t have the fiery red hair. And all half-siblings shared the same brown eyes, no doubt inherited from Aphrodite.
But Jazmín did find it funny that the only two brunettes both had a name that started with M. Had her mother planned that? Since the two were a few years apart, the oldest child of Aphrodite decided that it was just a coincidence. “I’m here,” Alexia yelled excited, more or less sprinting through the opened door.
Jazmín’s eyes met her half-siblings before they all started to sing Happy Birthday to the youngest member of the cabin, Manuel and Diego dramatically singing off key for entertainment. “Guys, this is serious,” Jazmín nagged the sons of Aphrodite, looking a bit appalled at Manuel, as he was older and should take this much more seriously. It was her last year at Camp Half-Blood and he would definitely be the next counsellor, as that position always went to the oldest member of the cabin.
After Alexia had received a hug and birthday wishes from all of them, they distributed themselves on the various sitting bags across the room, Jazmín taking her place on the red love seat, already having pen and paper in hand.
“It is time. There’s a few though ones here, but don’t worry! I’m sure, we’ll get them together in no time, “Jazmín started, totally in her element. “Maybe Mom can give us some pointers when she visits,” she smiled.
“Oh, she already did,” Alexia said, looking a bit remorseful. “She did?” Jazmín asked, smile fading a little, unable to keep out the disappointment in her voice. Everyone got 10 minutes of Mom time on their birthday, but Jazmín had hoped to get a glimpse, or maybe even a few words, from Aphrodite. “Yeah, that’s why I took a little bit longer,” Alexia said, looking at the ground, “She’s really sorry, but you know how busy she is.”
“Yes, especially today,” Eloísa’s tone was bitter.
“Anyways,” Jazmín continued quickly, not wanting this to ruin the mood, “We’ll form pairs and every pair will get two couples. The more experienced of us will get the, well, more difficult cases.” So, they had a few hours for each couple, that should suffice. And they wouldn’t intervene with each other’s couples. It had happened in the past and really was a waste of time. “Okay, Manuel and Diego form a pair,” she read the parings aloud. “Yes,” the boys high-fived each other. “Mia goes with Alaia, Amaya and Alexia are a pair, and Eloísa is with me,” Jazmín smiled, pleased with her selection.
“No,” Eloísa groaned, her plan had been to somehow disappear during match-making, but now that she was stuck with her oldest sister there was no way she could do that.
Jazmín ignored her, beginning to tell everyone their couples. When she named the second couple for Manuel and Diego, she was met with protest. “They’ll kill us, or at least use as sparring dummies, if they find out what we’re doing before we’ve actually succeeded,” Manuel exclaimed loudly, “Which is a very strong possibility since one of them is literally the child of the goddess of deceit!”
"Good luck with that,” Alaia snorted with laughter.
“Can’t we switch with someone?” Diego asked in a pleading tone, not being thrilled with the prospect of having to play cupid for the daughter of Lyssa and the son of Apate. To be fair, rage and deception was a hellish combo. But Jazmín did have her reasoning for giving them, especially Manuel, this couple. Surely, if they managed to bring Stella and Andrés together, he would gain new self-assurance, which would really help him next year, when she was off to college.
In the end, the couple distribution remained the same, her half-brothers clearly unhappy with it. Jazmín looked down at her list. If everything went according to plan Camp Half-Blood would have six new couples by the end of the day. She not only wanted to beat the Eros cabin, she also break the last couple record, which was five and had been set had three years ago.
If it was something Aphrodite’s children got competitive over it was match-making. It really showed with the competition they had with the Eros’ cabin, much to the dismay of the other campers.
The rules were simple: The cabin who had bought the most couples together by twilight won.
The couples in question were reaped from two bowls from each cabin. Sometimes a couple got drawn twice because the children of the love deities didn’t compare their choices.
All had started many years ago, when children of Eros had tried to play cupid too. Of course, the Aphrodite cabin hadn’t been amused, thinking the Eros kids tried to intervene with what they considered their business. Sadly, neither Chiron or Mr. D had been able to stop them. The read-head really would like to know what her mother thought about that. But if it bothered her Jazmín doubted this competition would have lasted this long. Who knew? Maybe Aphrodite and Eros watched them from above, having a good laugh.
Jazmín finally looked up again, a grin on her face, “Let’s bring these people together!”
~
Their first couple had been easy. Too easy actually. They hadn’t had done too anything drastic. Just spreading a rumour and suddenly those two love fools were finally talking about their feelings for each other. “That’s it?” Eloísa asked wide-eyed, gaze fixed on the two hand holding campers. “Seems so,” Jazmín answered, getting her list out of left pocket. Oh, how she loved this dress! It was already cute but the pockets made it 100 times cuter.
She crossed the first couple off the list, already eyeing the next one. This one was going to be more though. She knew the son of Hermes and daughter of Iris wouldn’t make it easy for them. But then again, she had thought that about Yam and Ramiro too. Maybe they should just try the rumour with Matteo and Luna too. All boys were the same after all. Just let them get wind of another boy liking the girl they’re interested in and all hell breaks loose.
She suggested it to Eloísa, who only shook her head. “Balsano would have a heart attack. And we get less points if we use the same method twice.” Right, Jazmín had totally forgotten that.
“We could lock them in?” she offered, as they searched for their couple. “How unoriginal is that?” Eloísa scoffed. If she had to spend her day doing this, it at least shouldn’t be so predictable. “It’s not,” Jazmín said, crossing her arms. Locking in was a true classic. It had worked on the most famous couples in and outside of camp.
“How long exactly will we waste our time watching them staring at each other?” Eloísa asked annoyed, just minutes after they had found them. “Until I have a plan,” Jazmín admitted. “You don’t have one? Great, just great,” the younger red-head crossed her arms, a disgruntled look on her face.
Well, it would be easier if Luna didn’t wear such a hideous outfit. Jazmín cringed visibly at the too many patterns and colours that didn’t match at all. Normally, children of Iris tended to be good with colour coordination. Just what had gone wrong with Valente? With all the layers she looked like a main character that escaped from one of those new, absolutely horrid, Disney shows her two youngest half-sisters loved to watch. How Mia and Alexia were so invested in those shows was beyond her. They liked to make their couples suffer, which Jazmín was definitely not a fan of. She especially couldn’t handle love triangle after love triangle.
Jazmín sighed loudly, this was giving her a headache. Maybe her style would get better if she dated Matteo. Oh, a girl can dream.
She focused back on Balsano, who had just received a pep talk from his best friend Gastón, a son of Apollo. It gave Jazmín an idea. “I’ll be right back,” she told her half-sister, not even bothering to wait for her reply.
“Hey, guys, how are you?” she greeted them. “I’m good, very good actually. Matteo not so much. It’s the nerves, you know?” The glare Matteo sent Gastón didn’t stop him from talking. He was more cheery than usual. Her brothers must have been successful with Gastina.
“I love giving advice,” Jazmín said. She really did. Just ask other campers. “Especially love advice,” she added with a grin.
“I don’t need you and your freaky love powers. I want to do this on my own,” Balsano said, crossing his arms. “Clearly, or you would have asked her by now,” Gastón pointed out. Jazmín couldn’t quite decipher on which side he was on. “Listen,” Jazmín tried again, “I only need to give you advice and when she say yes, it’ll get added to my couple number, really, what can it hurt? Just listen, okay?” Matteo sighed, but didn’t disagree. “Okay, be romantic but not too sappy. Finding a good balance is key,” Jazmín already advised.
“You don’t even know if she’ll say yes,“ Matteo remarked. "Please she will.” Gastón nudged him forward. Jazmín was really thankful for Perida right now. "Now, go get her,” he said with enthusiasm. The son of Hermes rolled his eyes, but made his way over to Valente.
Soon after Jazmín heard Luna’s excited answer. She pulled out her list, a big grin on her face.
Another couple down.
~
Not everyone did have such luck as Jazmín and Eloísa. “I’m pretty sure the Eros cabin tried to sabotage us,” Amaya voiced her suspicion during dinner. Jazmín frowned. She would have a word with their counsellor about that. “But did you get them together?” Alaia wanted to know. “Yes, we almost died, but we did it.” Manuel winced at Amaya’s words. “Well, once Stella and Andrés escape out of the armoury we’re definitely dead.”
“You locked them in?” Alaia asked loudly. “It seemed like the safest option,” Diego explained. “Such a classic move,” was all Jazmín said, sending Eloísa a grin, who just rolled her eyes.
“Hide me,” Diego said all of a sudden, ducking his head. Jazmín moved her head to the entrance of the pavilion, seeing a very angry Stella monitoring towards their table, Andrés just a few steps behind her. Whatever was the reason for his evil grin, she didn’t like it.
The daughter of Lyssa stopped, placing her hand on her table, eyes already murdering Jazmín’s half-brothers. “Any last wishes?” she asked, drawing with her index finger on the wood. It made all the Aphrodite kids uneasy.
“Let’s just get over with it,” Manuel sighed, having accepted whatever would follow already.
“Hm, yes, I could do that. Right now. Oh, but where would be the fun in that? All the anxious waiting would be over. No, I’m not going to do that today. Or tomorrow.” Her smile had become very twisted, it scared Jazmín. “No, I’ll do it when you’ll least expect it. Maybe in a year or two,” she chuckled, “the uncertainty will slowly drive you crazy.”
Satisfied with the shaking sight of Jazmín’s half-brothers, Stella continued talking, “Also no locking people in or trapping them in nets on next Valentine’s day!”
“Wait, that wasn’t us. The trapping people in nets thing, I mean,” her older brother clarified. “Yeah, right,” Stella said, voice full of scepticism. “Stella, they’re saying the truth,” Andrés stated, having heard no deceit in Manuel’s answer.
Confusion slowly replaced the anger on Stella’s face. “But who was it then?” she asked in Andrés’ direction.
“You actually thought the Aphrodite cabin is capable of doing something like that? I’m wounded!” a new voice said behind Stella. Jazmín knew this voice. Her expression darkened. Just what had the son of Eros done?
Stella turned towards Étienne, “Listen here, French fry-“ He interrupted the Italian, which earned him both a murderous look from her and Andrés. Jazmín would have actually squealed at that if this whole situation wasn’t so tense.
“No need to thank me,” the blonde said, “Oh, by the way. They kissed with our plan. So-“ Stella interrupted him this time. “Yes, because we would still hang in the air otherwise,” she hissed.
What exactly had the Eros cabin done to them? Sure, all was fair in love and war, but they had taken it way too far!
“Either way,” Étienne said, turning his head to Jazmín, “You lose!” Jazmín rarely wanted to fight, but right now she really wished she could throw her dagger at Sauveterre. Multiple times.
The Aphrodite kids eyed each other.
This meant war!

i have a notion and it's lena teaching little stella how to play chess and it's entirely different from lena playing chess in her own house because there's so much laughter and casual teasing and stella uses her powers to cheat and then vehEMENTLY DENYING IT WHEN ASKED and maybe i'm just being extra
its so funny bc i’ve had a v similar notion sO LET ME YELL ABT IT SOME
stella is the only of the superbabies to show any interest in chess for more than a passing moment and is the only one to be able to sit still long enough for lena to teach her the game and lena’s like???  so excited when, one day when stella’s like four or five maybe, lena and kara are playing and stella nudges at lena’s arm until she moves it so she can crawl into her mom’s lap and she settles back against lena and studies the board with this v serious look and kara’s biting back a laugh until stella quietly requests show me mommy? and then kara’s softening and lena’s all but melting tbh like woah her kiddo want to play this game that lena loves a lot and she wants to learn??  she wants lena to teach her???
so lena goes out and gets this little children’s chess set the very next day, gets this set bc it has little labels on the board to indicate where each piece goes and it’s got this pretty mother of pearl inlay around the edge of the board, around the base of the pieces and lena knows stella will love it
they pick sunday afternoons for practice, lena lifting stella up to the big family calendar they keep in the kitchen so she can pick a day and put a little heart next to it.  so every sunday afternoon, right after stella’s napped for a bit, she bounces into lena’s study and watches v carefully as lena sets up the board, explaining what each piece is, what they do, where they go.  stella asks questions sometimes, but mostly she watches at first until she kind of gets an idea of what’s going on
but then when they get into the game??  hoo boy, stella is hilarious and pretty savage, like she’ll look at some move that lena’s made that she apparently doesnt approve of and will look up at her mother with this one raised eyebrow and sort of sigh really?  and it’s the cutest thing and lena cant help but laugh and stella’s rlly so sweet, she drops the look she’s giving her and starts laughing with lena and it will take them a fair few minutes to sort of reign it in
and omg as stella gets older??  she starts learning a few basic strategies, she does, but she’s still losing to lena basically every time (though every once in a while, lena throws it just because the look of elation on stella’s face is probably one of the brightest, purest things lena’s ever experienced) so she takes to poking holes in lena’s strategies, gently harassing her to try and get her off her game, but lena throws it right back at her, sort of narrowing her eyes and quirking an eyebrow when stella goes to move her knight when she has a pawn in perfect position and stella just sort of snorts, nods like yeah okay ya got me there
good god they laugh so so much during these games.  like they rlly do and lena is so so happy abt it like??  this is literally all she’s ever wanted, all she’s ever dreamed of for her kids.  they’re getting exactly what she never had, are able to feel safe enough that they poke fun at her like stella does when lena makes a careless mistake and leaves her king vulnerable (it’s not a mistake, it’s lena carefully working lessons into each of their games tbh, like she is nothing if not methodical)
an excerpt:
mom, oh my gosh, don’t you have, like, three advanced degrees?
don’t you have a move to make, stelly-bean?
and stella’ll groan at the nickname but she’s also grinning super wide, super bright and lena’s just??  basking in her happiness i guess
omg and when stella learns to read minds, it’s hilarious bc she’s not slick abt it.  like??  u can sort of feel her when she’s there, in ur head, like a little bump or nudge near the base of your skull, and lena thinks its hilarious that she’s trying that, that when she couldnt get a vibe for lena’s next move, she looked to lena’s mind and she sort of pokes a little fun at stella for it, asks we’re not cheating, are we? in such a gentle, teasing tone that has stella stammering, flushed, uh no of course not like why would you say that as i am perfect and have never done anything wrong in my entire life, ever
when stella gets older, she gets a lot better at reading ppl without them knowing, but kara and lena can always tell (mostly bc of that first psychic connection??  like they’re slightly more attuned to stella too) and so stella thinks she’s Rlly being Slick but lena sort of rolls her eyes and groans stella and its hilarious watching her daughter’s reaction, going from shock to worry to vague annoyance to out and out laughter as she tries to deny it, puts up a good fight before she’s reduced to giggles
like at some point its not even practice anymore, they just turn into weekly chess games, just for fun, just bc its calm and sweet and warm and when stella’s in college and Going Through Some Shit, it’s something to anchor her and lena loves that her daughter still likes the game, still likes spending time with her.  like??  they’ve only ever missed one sunday, bc stella had the flu, but that was made up for on tuesday when she felt better
and like??  chess sort of becomes this touchstone for them, like it always was for lena, but it also brought up some weird and painful things too, but now its just all good things, just stella and quiet sundays and laughing and messing up the board bc they needed to push the game to the side in order to set their ice cream bowls on the desk
like it sort of becomes a thing between them, like one mother’s day, stella gets lena this truly horrendous cat chess board bc she thought it was hilarious and lena laughs so hard she cries when she opens it (she still keeps it in her office though, next to one of her #1 Mom mugs and the pencil holder finn made in preschool
and then lena fires back with a fantasy inspired chess set for stella’s birthday, bc the dragon looks ridiculous and its just the thing stella loves to mock mercilessly
without fail, one of them always gets the other something chess related for any gift giving event.  one christmas, stella gets a purse shaped like a knight; on lena’s birthday one year, stella got her a set of bookends that looked like bishops, and so on and so forth
and then, to get ~emotional~, lena gifts stella her very own custom made chess set for her college graduation and stella treasures it for the rest of her life tbh, like it makes her feel warm and safe like she always did in her mom’s study, sunday afternoons, sipping tea between moves and laughing until her stomach hurts.  like ??  it’s just a tangible thing for all these good memories and honestly ???  im crying ????

So how do Lena and the kids handle things when Kara gets hurt from a fight with an alien or something?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAH WELL
i mean when they’re little, the kids aren’t super duper aware??  and the adults around them keep a p good handle on everything when shit goes down so they usually remain p blissfully ignorant when kara gets hurt
like they get that kara has a sometimes scary job where she has to protect ppl but its like aunt maggie or aunt alex’s jobs and sometimes she walks in the front door moving a little stiffly and sometimes they have to go see her at the deo, sitting under these bright lights that make maia and finn feel a little weird, a little dizzy, a little powerful, and they hurt stella’s eyes (or maybe that’s not why there’s this heavy pounding at the back of her skull?  she’s so little, she doesn’t have words for it) but it doesn’t rlly.....idk sink in??
that said: lena is quietly a Wreck.  bc the kiddos respond to how she responds, she can’t rlly fall apart (not that she ever rlly did??  but she was able to cry abt it and drop everything to rush to the deo and fuss over kara) so she gets v quiet abt it, all hurried crying with the sink running, bathroom door locked.  she gets v good at hiding the evidence that anything is wrong
one time, when finn is abt six or so and maia is four and stella isnt quite a year old, kara gets Hurt.  like big time, holy shit, lena we’re doing everything we can for her hurt.  and lena’s stretched so thin already bc kara’s been gone a lot in the week leading up to this, trying to catch this trio of aliens (one rozz escapee, two that got caught up in his schemes) bc they made a direct threat to that pretty luthor you seem so interested in, isn’t she married supergirl? so she just—she can’t imagine not being with kara at the deo but she can’t make their three little kids spend the night in uncomfortable chairs either and she’s exhausted and terrified bc for the first time in a long time she’s not like one hundred percent sure kara’s going to be okay??  and she can’t do this alone, she can’t raise their children on her own, this was always a partnership and she can barely keep them all on schedule for a week how on earth can she do that for the rest of their lives?
and god bless the superfriends, they all step the fuck up.  they’re all sick with worry, obviously, but these kids are still pretty sheltered, still dont have any idea of what their mother does, who she is, what she risks to protect them every day, and everyone pulls it together a little, just enough to take shifts with the kiddos.
maggie takes mornings, gets finn and maia up and off to school, makes sure they have packed lunches and healthy breakfasts and sends lena little text updates, a picture every morning of the kiddos grinning in their carseats
james covers afternoons—winn picks the kiddos up and drops them at catco and listen, they love their uncle james to no end and he comes up with a million and one games for them to play.  cat usually emerges from her office at some point bearing sweets and the offer of cartoons on one of the many tvs on her wall
lucy flies in on the weekend and hosts a sleepover at her apartment in the city, promises that she’ll make sure they eat their fruits and veggies and then immediately gives them just about as much sugar as they can ask for.  they watch the incredibles and finding nemo and the aristocats (abt 37 times, lucy counted)
eliza stays at the house, helps take care of stella when lena needs to sleep.  she and alex understand The Most, and they stay the closest; eliza cooks meals and moms the hell out of lena and alex sits right next to her at the deo, squeezes her hand whenever she starts to cry and cries along with her
its not good and its not easy and those six days are the Longest of lena’s life but the kids dont even remember them rlly, just a hazy sort of fog of hanging out with their cool aunts and uncles and finn’s the only one that kind of remembers??  but he only rlly remembers kara coming home and them eating a lot of potstickers
UNDER THE CUT BC I KEEP CRYING UR WELCOME
it’s a completely different story when they’re older.  i would say the first Big Scary Moment comes when finn’s ~10, maia’s around eight, and stella’s just turned five.  stella only rlly remembers it bc emotion sort of sharpens all of her memories???  and there were a fuck ton of emotions happening
stella’s at a sleepover and maia’s at a girl scout overnighter and finn’s at a sleepover too (nice attempt at date night kara and lena, too bad evil waits for no happily married couple’s first night alone in months) and kara has to leave bc there’s something happening uptown and lena’s happy, a little warm from the wine and says something like hurry back and she turns on the news, bc she always does when supergirl has to save the day and it’s around six, so it’s the regular evening news and its on in just about every home in national city and the counselors at maia’s camp are watching just to kill time
so everyone gets to watch in hd as supergirl gets shot out of the sky in a hail of kryptonite bullets
stella’s hysterical, so’s maia (no one ever said the kids were any better at secret keeping than kara), finn’s the only one that rlly keeps it together long enough to fake a stomach ache and ask to call his mom to come get him.  lena’s numb, rlly, has to focus on keeping her voice steady when she’s got maia and stella on speaker, assuring them both that she’s on her way to get them, she’s just picked up finn
alex’s already had one of the break rooms near medical set up with cots and lena nearly cries then and there in relief, because she sure as shit isnt leaving the deo without kara and she sure as shit isnt calling a babysitter for her hysterical children, not when stella’s hanging onto her and maia’s tucked up against her side and finn, oh god finn’s trying so hard to keep it together, keeps looking at his sisters, keeps looking at lena and setting his jaw and he’s so much like kara it hurts for lena to see
kara’s in surgery for a long time, long enough that the kids eventually pass out.  they have separate cots, but finn asks lena to help him shove them all together and it makes a surface big enough for the kiddos to curl up together, stella sandwiched between her big siblings, finn’s longer arms just barely reaching over maia’s shoulder, keeping them all together and lena can’t sleep so she pulls up her cot as well and watches her children sleep, watches them draw their breath in sync, as a unit, and she’s not sure how long it is, but then alex is stepping in, exhausted, and she just nods at lena and it’s enough
stella must sense the mood shift bc she’s awake first, squirming to get free of the dog pile theyre in and waking her sibling in the process and then they’re all looking at lena, wide eyed, and it’s maia, the boldest of the three, that asks when can we see mama?
alex answers that she’s resting, that she needs to rest a little longer, but if they’re very quiet and very careful they can go in and see her right now and lena’s not sure if she’s ever seen her children so entirely subdued, but they shuffle into kara’s room very quietly and very carefully, lena just behind them and kara just barely blinks, just barely smiles at them before it all changes again, before stella’s whispering something in finn’s ear and finn’s nodding and asking alex if they can kiss kara and kara’s eyes are shining and lena’s very nearly openly crying
kara kind of cuts alex off with a hoarse c’mere kiddos, i feel like i haven’t seen you in a week and then finn’s wrapping his arms around stella’s middle and he and maia are bouncing off the ground lightly, floating over to kara’s side and their kisses are kind of messy, a little snotty probably, considering how much crying they’ve been doing, but it’s okay, it’s so much better bc kara’s laughing and smiling and sharing a look with lena when stella insists on putting bandaids on her bc you’ve got a lot of booboos mama
it changes as they get even older, obviously, as they get a better understanding of why their mom is getting hurt, and maia gets very angry with kara for a while bc she gets wanting to protect ppl, she gets being a hero, but what, are you just going to leave us?
one time kara gets p hurt and maia storms out of the room when the family gathers around her and she wont talk to lena, wont talk to alex, and its against several warnings not to that kara gets out from under the sun lamps and goes after her.  it’s not an easy conversation, not by any means and maia’s angry at a a lot of things and kara’s only one of them, but she gets the brunt of it, gets the why don’t you ever think about us?  and the broken i don’t want you to die that comes after a fair amount of yelling and crying
kara doesn’t have a lot of answers that will satisfy maia, she knows, bc maia’s young still and hasn’t had much reason to see the good in people, doesnt have the same idealistic world view like finn, like kara, but what she lacks in solid answers, she makes up for in a hug that clocks in around twelve minutes at least and it’s not the end of the discussion, but its the end for now bc then maia’s remember that holy shit, my mom just got thrown through a building and is ushering kara back to the sun bed
finn’s so gentle, his heart just breaks every time kara gets hurt.  he cries for days in college once bc kara blows her powers in the middle of a fight and just keeps going bc back up wasnt coming and there were civilian lives at stake and he wanted to fly home to help, he wanted to, he wanted to so badly, but he couldnt, he was rooted in place watching the fight on the tv in the lounge, too afraid of the power he had to move
he feels a lot of guilt for that for a very long time, even after stella intervenes (she doesnt v often, only when she thinks it’s necessary) and kara talks to him, assures him there’s nothing for him to feel guilty for.  it takes years, rlly, for him to ever really forgive himself for not helping her, for not stepping in
mostly tho he steps in and fills the gap while kara’s down, takes maia to the demo room when her hands start shaking with rage, holds stella’s punching bag, stops by lena’s office when he’s on his way home from school to drop off a sandwich or salad or something just to make sure she eats.  bless him, he rarely confronts his own feelings about his mother’s second job, the risks she takes.  he can’t, you know?  they’re hard, difficult to handle, difficult to reign in, so he avoids thinking about it too hard until he’s forced it, then my sweet son just breaks down at the oddest moments, like in line at the grocery store or folding laundry or playing video games with his best friend.  just fucking sobs—its usually weeks after kara’s been hurt, and kara’s learned to be on the look out for him around this time, learned to keep half her attention searching the city for her son crying and when she hears it she just drops whatever she’s doing and goes to collect him.  they usually go get ice cream or maybe pizza, or sometimes take a walk along the pier.  sometimes kara will ask finn to teach her how to play whatever game he’s rlly into and she will act like she absolutely has no idea how to play it at first (even though she totally plays them)
and stella !!  stella, little stella always feels it the hardest, always takes her pain and grief and anger and fear and multiplies it, carries the weight of her family with her everywhere she goes.  even if she’s not watching kara fight off whatever evil is lurking in national city, she knows when it’s gone wrong bc lena always watches and the two ppl stella can feel the easiest, strongest, loudest are kara and lena.  she always feels it first
and then it’s agonizing hours of pain, wave after wave of horror and fear and it gets worse the more time she spends around her family—its always the worst from alex and lena, she gets flashes of what happened from alex, gets blood and the crack of bone, the echo of kara getting slammed into a wall or a truck or the pavement.  she gets these bits and pieces of horrible what ifs from lena, gets black suits and questions about kryptonian funerals.  it’s awful.  she doesnt want to be alone when its like this, but stella can hardly stand being around other people, like her own shit is hard enough to deal with, she doesnt need this too
she toughs it out every time tho, bc she’d rather live through it with them all, rather be right there when her mom wakes up than to be somewhere else.  her peace of mind isnt worth that much
eventually it spills over bc it has to, stella cant swallow these feelings forever.  it’s a few days after the latest scare and stella’s the only kid still at home, the only one that didn’t have to get back to school, so she’s spending the rest of her spring break on the couch with her mom while she recovers, while she recharges.  it’s fine one second, then kara gets up to get more popcorn or something and stubs her toe and since she’s still powerless, she actually winces and then stella’s thinking about it, thinking about how close they all came to losing her again and the thoughts and emotions sort of push their way into kara’s mind and stella knows the moment they do bc then kara’s stopped and is giving her this terrible, soft look
by this point, kara knows stella’s patterns like the back of her hand, knows that she wont talk about it until she’s ready, but that she’ll be ready a lot sooner now that kara knows what’s going on.  so she doesn’t say anything, just gets more popcorn and makes stella some tea while she’s up.  when she comes back to the couch, she pulls her daughter into a tight hug bc the sensory thing—that usually helps when she gets overwhelmed like this, too
i’m sorry you’re carrying this, kara tells her.  i’m sorry i can’t help.
stella nods.  i know
its almost enough to know that her mother would carry it if she could
