Possible spoiler warning for Astarion’s past BG3, I’m not sure when this information gets revealed in game as everything I’m going off of here I learned from a conversation with oomf. (No spoilers in the tags/reblogs please, I’m still early into Act One)

Okay so we all know about Astarion’s incredibly tragic past but I had the realization the other day that if you romance Astarion, you’re his first love. He was taken by Cazador right after his death, as far as I’m aware, and then stuck in that hellhole for 200 years. Even if he had a crush or something before his death, he wouldn’t have had the time to indulge in it, nor would he remember it. 40 years is a blink of an eye to an elf, especially when its followed by the most traumatic 200 years of your life.

But think about that. You’re his *first love.* He has no idea what a healthy relationship looks, he’s only ever been treated like an object. He doesn’t know what to when he realizes he cares for you because he’s never cared for someone before. He’s only ever had to look out for himself and try to stay alive. Even when you find him at the nautiloid crash site, it’s no wonder he considers killing you. He has *no* idea that there are people out there who don’t intend to take advantage of him, and until he gets to know you, he has no way of knowing that at all. But then he falls for you, and he’s falling in love for the first time. If you have, do you remember what that feeling was like? That realization that “oh god, I care for this person so much…” and how it can shake you to your core? He’s going through that at the same time that he’s learning how to be a person for himself instead of an object for someone else.

It’s got me so incredibly fucked up, god damnit Larian Studios, you’ve got me absolutely losing my mind over here

3D print sculpted by Bulkamancer, printed in Siraya Tech grey UV Resin on my Elegoo Mars 2, and hand-painted by me! I cannot be more pleased with how he turned out 🥰

Had to share all these gorgeous details, like the TEXTURES on this models are just gorgeous! All that filigree and bead detailing is raised which made painting it much easier, but still very tedious (so worth the results though). This was my first time painting a face bigger than tabletop mini scale, and boy was I intimidated. Had some friends point me to ball-jointed doll makers and learned about detailing faces with chalk pastels, so I used pastels to give his cheeks some colour, blush the tips of his ears, and make the shadows under his eyes. I could go back and add more colour/texture to his hair but I think its best if I leave it, lest I play with it too much and end up ruining things. I have to keep reminding myself that just cause I can see things in macro lens photos, doesn't mean I'm actually able to go correct those things 😅

Regardless, I'm so so happy with how he turned out, and its crazy that I can look at this and go "me!!! I PAINTED THAT!! ME!!!", and now I have a stunning model of everyones favourite lil rat bastard (affectionate) vampire mans💕

So in BG3 I wasn’t aware that bc somehow my dumbass missed seeing Astarion on the Beach and Wyll in the Grove and didn’t recruit them until after I saved Halsin and the Grove and Tiefling but had them in my party by the time I started the quest party with the Tieflings that it fr kicked me off romance.

Like I deadass only had Gale, L’zael, and Shadowheart but I didn’t want them. Meanwhile though I kept cycling through them for the rest of Act 1 and far into Act 2 where I’m am. I’ve gotten NO ROMANCE.

And I know I have to talk to them and flirt but I had little to options to do so. Hell I would’ve taken a Wyll scene to hold me Astarion then prepare me for my Oak Daddy.

I deadass just want spicy content but ZIP, NADA. “Thus is alone” word to Withers 😭😭😫 . I feel like it’s ass I locked out on it tbh. But to be fair, I’ve been aiming for Halsin anyway. I plan to get him once I finish up Act 2 today but I just wondered if this happened to anyone else who’s new to the game and first playthrough.

Is it actually possible to learn about cazador’s poem before sleeping with Astarion for the first time?

I’m replaying dark urge because I missed a few things the first many times and got double romance scenes by accident and this dialogue the morning after the second scene. Now I’m curious if you can find out about the poem or if this is a relic of Early Access.

I play on PS5 and don’t own a working computer so I can’t dive into the files and the bug/dialogue isn’t mod related.

The accidental path under read more

He approached my Durge/Tav asking to sleep together before the teifling party but the scene was delayed and never triggered due to Karlach’s 3am flirting and lae’zel and Shart fighting. Oh, it’s bugged, I thought. Just keep going, I’ll start his romance at the teifling party.

He then approached her at the teifling party as if he’d never asked to sleep together before. The romance scene triggered like normal, she asked about his scars in the morning, he gave the usual answers and said the teifling specific line about saving tails. Okay, back on track, right? WRONG.

At the next long rest he showed up again after everyone went to sleep and the full romance scene triggered as if the teifling party hadn’t happened. Don’t want to say no and get locked out of his romance.

It was the same scene you usually get when sleeping together the first time until the morning after where the normal questions about his scars are replaced with the above references that Durge/Tav already knew about the poem but hadn’t seen the scars yet.
