Last night on top of the Battery Parking Garage. The twin beams reached up to four miles into the sky and were comprised of 88 xenon search lights positioned into two 48ft (15m) squares — roughly 1/4 of the footprint of the actual towers. ⁠ ⁠ Since it's the migration season for birds, many of them get confused by the lights, which can lead to their death (New York Times say up to 160.000 birds are endangered each year).⁠
