March 8, 2024 - Eastern Black-headed Batis (Batis minor)
Found in parts of Somalia, Kenya, and Tanzania, these batises live in forests, savannas, and gardens. Often seen in pairs, they eat insects, capturing prey in flight or while perched. They build small, shallow nests, probably from aloe fibers, lichen, and spiderwebs in saplings where females lay clutches of two eggs. Both parents likely care for the chicks.
