In 2009, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Barbie brand, Mattel released the “Then and Now” Bathing Suit Barbie.

This Barbie was a throwback to the original Barbie’s black and white swimsuit - but with the idea that she was “updated” for the modern day.

Where the original Barbie was in a black and white one piece, 50 years on and Barbie is in a two-piece.

The differences don’t stop there though - notice how on the original Barbie, she had gold earrings, and white sunglasses? On the 2009 throwback, all those accessories are the colour that over the years we have learned as Barbie Pink. They still both have tasteful black shoes though!

And of course, it’s the modern day and Barbie is a career woman on the go now. She needs her very own (pink!) cell phone too.

'it's anti women being mothers because they smash baby dolls' one of the main characters is literally a mother trying to connect with her daughter ??? The baby doll message is about girls being given other choices besides being a mother and house wife

Oppenheimer has no women for the first 30 minutes and the moment we see one shes naked. I LOVE Florence Pugh but the contrast is pretty strong. It ignores the female scientists that actually worked at the time, btw. I did love Oppenheimer but it's not perfect in that regard either.

She might have started out as just a lady in a bathing suit, but she became so much more. She has her own money, her own house, her own car, her own career. Because Barbie can be anything, women can be anything. And this has been reflected back onto the little girls of today in the Real World. Girls can grow into women, who can achieve everything and anything they set their mind to. Thanks to Barbie, all problems of feminism and equal rights have been solved. At least that’s what the Barbies think. After all, they’re living in Barbie Land. Who am I to burst their bubble?
