This playlist is really gonna show my age, but though I was an absolute teen goth, I’m not quite old enough to remember this first time round. But goths hate new stuff, you always prefer the older stuff! That’s the point!

Writing the last few scenes of the fic was a fucking nightmare because it was already stupid long, and I was determined to finish on ch.200, because round numbers. Except I had too many notes and scene fragments I wanted to fit in, and I couldn’t work out how to structure it all.

I hadn’t played this song in years, and it’s not something I would automatically associate with HTDC, so it was a surprise when I heard it randomly, and it gently tapped me on the shoulder: this is the tone you need for this bit.

So I pulled out all the tired, frightened, numbness of waiting for the end, the moment when all the doubts and weakness creep in, but you have to get it all out, so that afterwards you can be strong and Do The Thing.

Dealing with his addictions and facing his prejudices has calmed him down lately, though, and his dedication to Stendarr is genuine. He’s learning very slowly that he doesn’t always have to be the centre of attention.Why You Love Them: I like dogs. Haaki likes dogs. I like Haaki. But really, Haaki started as a villain invented solely to hunt down Frithjofr and has become what is technically my main character, which is quite the transition. I probably don’t portray it well but it’s been interesting to take someone “evil” and examine their motivations and how they justify their actions.
