Createurs - We Exist

I have the pleasure of being in the presence of talented and passionate artists and musicians most of the time and it’s, for me, is one of the best things in my life. Friends, I call these people.

Last Saturday, one of the bands I looked out for in the past years launched their first album – We Exist. Createurs, which is apparently the French word of creators which is already so beautiful when you think about it in itself, is a collaborative band telling the stories of the monsters not just under our beds but also the ones inside our heads, even the ones that are chasing us, through the music of different people. They have also collaborated with different visual artists for each of their song and those artworks were also featured in the lyrics booklet with their CD.

We Exist album has 12 well-written tracks that speaks of the eerie, the enchanting, the damned, and the mystery of the entirety of life. Yes, life.

Now, I’m not going to pretend like I’m some music expert and give you guys a review of their album. I am, however, going to share with you my thoughts on each and favorite lyrics from the tracks in it.

1. Pancake (Re)Mix

This one’s a little too close to my heart. Remember the artworks I’ve mentioned earlier? I made one for them and it was for this song. I think this is the most outright cheesy song they have in their album. But even so, it wasn’t the corny kind. I described this one as “colorful” when I first heard it. It’s exactly the reason why I was careful on putting too much color in the artwork, I didn’t want to take the colors from the song – I wanted it to be as serene and innocent as the song.

“Flying with time just to witness your smile. And I, oh I’m falling down tonight”

We all know the feeling of being all chummy giddy soft inside like we swallowed a whole damn litter of puppies and they won’t stop making you melt from the inside and that’s what this song makes you feel like – kilig. Oh young, new, love.

2. Tides and Lifelines

Okay, just reading the title you’d get an idea of what this song is about. This song reminds me of a lyric from one of my most favorite band ever ever; “love is watching someone die”. (fine it’s from What Sarah Said by Death Cab For Cutie). I think this is one of the songs Createurs wrote and it speaks about mortality and how we deal with it.

“We’re the bullet in each other’s gun, shoot the angels that would take us apart”

Just read those lines. I don’t want to even think how hard it is to be so desperate and helpless in trying to help someone so dear in the brink of death. Ouch, I’m just gonna go and cry for a while.

3. Teragram Carnivale

“Shadows fall on rooms like this, where the sun and the moon collide, with your eyes that once were my carousel rides”

I feel like we all can relate to this song in some way. It has to be relevant to every one of us at some point in our lives. We all wanted to believe in something that has grew its root around our hearts and got a little too caught up in the roller coaster rides. I think this song brings you back to that particular time to make you realize that the past never changes and they never go away. Definitely in my top 3.

4. Facemask

I think I’ve played this song one too many times when they uploaded this on spotify before. Mostly because of its catchiness and its angst. Lol sorry I know, I can’t think of a better way to describe it. You can actually feel the song’s anger and disappointment wrapped in some sort of vengeful feeling.

I liked the lines “You’re only fooling yourself, messing everyone’s head. A catfish, a sly dish, the culprit, gets blown kiss”

In this digital era, anything and everything can be edited or lied about and it gets sickening when someone or a group of people manipulate others by lying to them about important things. Technology is a beautiful thing if used for good, but there is some greed in humanity that uses it for something else entirely.

5. Trigger Warning

“It’s the beginning and it’s the end. When all the light has been set, a warning when night is at best.”

I feel like this song was supposed to be in the beginning? It would have been nice to have heard this intro to all their haunting songs, both in a good and eerie way. It’s like the ones you hear when you watch a horror movie that gives you chicken skin and cool fog kinda vibes. It’s a mood setter, a look into the mirror of our own self. It asks you to look inside and acknowledge that you are one of these monsters you are so scared of.

6. The Curious Life of Mr. Hyde II: The Mexicat

This song is still in my everyday playlist. It’s been there since I’ve met Rain the night they played for WAT Up the first time and I got sucked into their music. Oh god I have so many favorite lines from this song!! It’s about mental issues and it perfectly sings the chaos that is in one’s head. They wrote this to try and explain how complicated it is to be in the state of unstable mental health in a very poetic way.

Here are my top 3 lines (YESS BECAUSE I CANT CHOOSE OKAY?? ☹ ); “The colorful imagery of dancing audacity”, “Conversing with my demons, addicted to the tone”, “I haven’t got a martini or any kind of whiskey, But baby you’re my margarita, drunk in love with you”.

Welp. Let’s just say I love the entire lyrics ugh

7. Pianocktail

OH THIS! I love this one. This reminds me of my other favoritest band forever – Panic! At The Disco. The story within and the sophistication in this one is something that’s imprinted into my fanatic heart (awow).

“The taste has never been this condescending. A drink to be made by the one and only pianocktail!”

Ah, there’s nothing more tripping than an uncertainty for something you’ve had for so long.

8. Chat Box From Alaska

“She’s a part-time lover and a beautiful liar, plagued with her broken words and empty promises. Cornered by the pillars of her comfort and embrace, making out with someone better, someone smoother, someone tastier”

I feel like this song is basically for fuck girls who manipulates people for sex by leading people on and leaving them just as fast. I think the last part of this song was written by Rain as a poem years and years ago? Nevertheless, it ended the song so smoothly.

9. Awful Things the Moon Saw

This song makes me think of obsessive lovers or past ones that refuses to let it go. Maybe it’s also us when we hold on a little too tight on something that’s already slipping away.

“Well you know you’ve got me haunted by your scent, Now I find myself begging and falling for you more and more.”

It is also kind of a lullaby to me for some reason, I can sleep soundly with this one playing hehe

10. St. Cecille

This one’s also in my playlist since I’ve first heard it. I think I read the story behind (or at least heavily connected) this song, written by the vocalist. He has a lot of passion, idk ask him. JK!!!!

"Rhyme our thoughts in this waltzing dreams. Time stops when you are around. You’re the one I’ve been talking about on the song of roads and hearts”

11. Bloodstream

All I can say about this is that I am so excited for the story to come out because I want to look more into it. Twilight’s werewolves just left the building.

“Chaotic, poetic, and overly narcissistic. Hypnotic, agnostic, but slightly optimistic. Out of the forest to Manila fucking buses. It’s a tale about a man who waltzed among carcasses.”

It’s a midnight story!

12. Stellar Memories

The first song, besides the ones I’ve already heard before of course, that caught my attention in the album was this one. It’s a desperate attempt to preserve something we believe in and wish for its memories to last up to our end.

“Set up the fire and let’s dance around the house. Then watch it burn down like the dreams we fought so hard to get. If this is it, hope higher, ‘cause we’ll hide from the world and never make a….”

I feel like this is the best song to end the album with because I didn’t want it to end and I just kept it on loop for all its entirety because I liked each song.

I’ve already wrote a (lengthy) Instagram post about their well thought branding and packaging but I also want to commend them for the bomb line up and organized launch! Page Four Production reminded me so much of the first gigs of WAT UP and made me miss the team. From promotions to media exposures, to the materials! I look forward to attending gigs they’d come up with!

I won’t ask for more releases so soon because I want to savor this album and all its stories. I’ve already heard the Part I of Mr. Hyde and it’s Createurs’ gift to everyone who attended their launch so if you are curious, wait for the next album maybe it’d be included there.

This album will always have a special place in my heart. It’s definitely worth the long wait. Congrats, Createurs!

I know I'm gonna get side-eyed for this but Lo'ak was annoying af lol.

His rebellious attitude was so obnoxious and he frequently got his siblings and his family in deep shit. Aonung's xenophobia and prejudice against Kiri's social awkwardness was serious, yea, but didnt warrant a brawl given Jake's orders, their vulnerable situation, and the implications of beating up the leaders' son.

"Sullys stick together" apparently didnt apply to him and it felt like he never learned anything about processing his impulses until someone finally got killed. At least the way of water philosophy and his opendedness and patience with Payakan taught him to "breathe" in the sense of slowing down. But it didnt seem to stick until after he saw Neteyam's body and when he needed to save his dad.

I really hope his attitude and impulse control improves in the sequels. He has a big heart and I admire his kindness and how much he protected his siblings. His fire is admirable when he controls it. He clearly loves his family and wants to be accepted, too. But I felt like he was worse than Jake in his reckless adventerous mindset and lack of reserve. Maybe the pacing of the film made him seem like his impulsive descisions were back to back, but regardless it felt so frustrating seeing him never weigh his priorities and always go with the ones that put himself first, save for a few times (like saving Spider from the ship and warning Payakan to leave the cove to thwart off the harpooners).

He's the older brother now and Neytiri nor Jake will be so forgiving for putting anyone in danger and being inflammatory, especially concerning Tuk and Kiri's safety and the family's place among the Metkayina.

3rd year high school ako nun, after mag NCAE exam, nag iisip na ko “hala saan ako magccollege” “anong gusto ko ba talaga” paano kasi, 2nd year ako nun, nagdecide ako “gusto ko mag psychology!!” aning aning kasi fam ko eh lol lahat may sapak, bale ang nasa isip ko nun, gusto ko malaman bakit ganun behavior nila ganun, para naman maintindihan ko sila (because honestly, hindi ko sila magetz, kahit hanggang ngayon) pero nung 3rd year, habang iniisip ko life decisions ko (huwaw) si mommy naman, ang sabi sakin “piliin mo yung kurso na pagkatapos eh may trabaho ka agad” at ang tinutukoy niya dun eh either HRM or IT, basta yung in demand, kasi nga daw service industry kaya HRM tapos kaya naman daw IT kasi, modern na daw ang mundo

Second school. Syempre Ateneo de Manila University (One big fight! Haha) kaso mga bes, ang ewan naman nila mommy, alam ng mahina ako sa lugar, hinatid nga nila ako (thru taxi) di ko naman alam saang lupalop nila ako binaba HAHAHAHA as in ang layo dun sa Bellarmine Hall chuchu ata (kung saan ako mag eexam, buti na lang maaga ako talaga pumunta para may time ako maligaw lol) kinapalan ko na yung mukha ko nun! Kumausap na ko ng mga naglalakad, tapos luckily, mayroon namang afternoon batch kagaya ko, kaya sumabay na din ako. Hahahaha pero just like UP, di ako pumasa sa ADMU. Wala kasi akong sagot sa essay part ng exam! Naloka ako tapos ang init pa, la kasi aircon hahaha char pero oks na din, ang tingin ko kasi sa admu, parang up din, pero mostly mayaman kasi ang studentz kaya...yun, gets? Mayaman + matalino =/= me. And ang gastos nila sa bondpaper!! kaikli ng sulat dun sa rejection letter (hahahaha)

Third school. My dream school. Ambisyosa kasi ako eh. Hahahaha. De La Salle University (D-L S-U, Animo La Salle!! Haha) Eto lang yung school na ako yung naglakad ng mga files, requirements ko. As in nagpasama pa ako sa isa kong friend pumunta ng Vito Cruz. Hahahaha kaso ako lang yung pinapasok sa building. Mga beshie grabe, may elevator na, may escalator pa. Hahahaha tapos may super lawak na ground with grass (hahahaha) tapos ang daming students dun, nag aaral, natutulog, etc. Ganung ganun yung naimagine ko sa college kaya naman nung nakita ko yun, parang nag form ng heart yung eyes ko (ang exagge hahaha) tapos ang hi-tech pa! (Kaya inis na inis ako, naiwala ko yung drawstring bag ko at yung flashdrive ko na may tatak dlsu huhu) Yung room kung saan kami nag exam, parang yung room sa How to Get Away with Murder!! Tapos sobrang lamig hahahaha. Unlike the first two, nag waitlisted naman ako dito, kaso di ka kasi pwede mag avail ng scholarship kapag waitlisted ka lang (AHUHU) so bye, La Salle. Bye dream school.

Last school. Ano pa ba? Syempre kinumpleto ko na yung Big 4. The Pontifical and Royal, Catholic University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas. (Go USTeeee!!! Haha) sa paglalakad ng files, kasama ko yung pinsan ko na nag-ust din pero lumipat na siya eh. Dito lang ako pumasa. HAHAHAHA pero hindi din sa 1st choice kong program, pero at least di ako waitlisted. Ang ganda sa UST, fam. PRAMIZ. Homey yung feeling. Kinakabahan nga ako nung nag exam ako, kasi, baka wala na akong mukhang maiharap sa mga kamag anak ko, kung wala man lang akong ipinasa sa big 4 (buti na lang meron hahaha) at some point, kinonsider ko din na second dream school ko to dahil sa isang lalaki (HAHAHAHA) kasi nga daw magmemed daw siya diyan, tapos naisip ko, yey magkikita kami (kaso ang laki laki kaya ng UST at tsaka poser pala yon bwahahaha)

Sa 4 schools na yan, ang una kong choice palagi ay Psychology. Pero yung sa DLSU lang ako nawaitlist, kaso baka wala na kaming makain makapag aral lang ako diyan hahaha kaya pinatos (awow) ko na yung 2nd choice ko na pumasa sa UST (yep mahal, but hindi naman kasing mahal ng DLSU kaya nakayanan....for 3 sems lol) which is Business Ad :) (layo no hahaha) Shinare ko lang dito, para...pag mga 20+ na ko, babasahin ko tapos matatawa na lang ako kasi mamimiss ko maging estudyante kagaya ng laging sinasabi ng mga nasa 20s nila at nagwowork na. Hi 20+ graduate self, pag nabasa mo to, wala lang. Magtrabaho ka na!! LOL

Love You To The Stars and Back : A Movie Review-ish

Love You To The Stars abd Back is a 2017 Filipino Romantic Comedy film written and directed by Antoinette Jadaone. It was a bout a girl who wants to be abducted by the aliens.She unintentionally ran over the guy's foot that became a way for them to go to an unexpected journey together.

Okay, that was a shitty synopsis but read on!! The movie had English subtitles so it's okay to watch even if you are not a Filipino.

It captured Filipino culture very well. From Filipino's hospitality, the traits of *common* Filipinos, even the smallest details. The decorations on Caloy's house, plus Ronabelle who didn't want to attend her JS Prom bc her crush doesn't know her lol😂

It had so many "writing-prompt" scenes!!

It kinda reminded me of Paper Towns and TFIOS.

The cinematography!!! Now, I know nothing about films but I kinda know a good cinematography when I seen one (awow). I loved how detailed it was plus the coors of the movie was v aesthetically pleasing.

The characters were very relatable. I mean, we all had one "I-want-to-get-away-from-this" phase.

The story was amazing. I was kinda anxious at first bc I was worried that it was going to have an open-ending but it thankfully didn't. I loved how it settled everything with Mika's letter.

Lastly, thank you Direct Antoinette Jadaone! It was awesome!

Hi blog. Its been a while since I last posted and update whats been goin up on my life. I have to say its been a tough few months for me *since I know and I already told you that I’ve been depressed last last month* but hallelujah I’m back, bitch. Stronger and braver. Charot. But honestly speaking, year 2017, I can say has been the hardest year of my life so far. I’ve been in a dilemma that I never imagine to be felt. HAHAHA lol but no worries cause IM OKAY and I am well, I am good. All iz well. 😊

Okay, now, what has been happening/happened in my life lately nga ba? So last august I have decided na maguwian nalang from work (Makati). Nakadorm kasi ako dati for 6 months I think. And narealized ko na ang unsafe nung dorm ko ?? And it feels like sobrang liit ng room for six persons? Lol nagreklamo pa ko eh 2500 lng naman binabayaran ko. Eh hindi na ko masaya eh bakit ba. Pag hindi ka na masaya, wag mo ng pilitin. Toxic na yun, kelangan mo na umalis. Hahaha? Pero one thing pa kaya ako naguwian is ang gastos ko sa food. Syempre 3 times ako kakain for a day plus meryenda pa and sobrang gastos, yung gastos ko sa pagkaen yun nlng sana pinamasahe ko pauwi ng bahay sa Cavite. And dun ko naisip a maguwian nalng. Actually uwian naman talaga ko dati nung first two months ko pero lagi kasing OTY dati (if you dont know OTY it means Oh Thank You , meaning OT na thankyou, gets?) So ayun, napadorm ako ng wala sa oras. Pero ngayon the management of our office has improved naman na and they gave solutions para maiwasan na ang mga ots and in other word lets call it “better management”.

Hindi ko alam kung ako lang ba or what pero nakakatamad na talaga magwork?? Ng 8 hours a day?? I know its takes time naman para makakuha ka ng higher position or mas madaling trabaho because fresh graduate ka palang. But I m not really into adulting. Adulting is not for me. (Lagi ko tong sinasabi no?) Ang hirap gumising ng 5am araw araw. Kaya nga gusto ko na lumipat sa alabang para mas malapit sa bahay namin. Baka pwede na ko gumising ng 6 nun. Haha Kasi kung di mo naitatanong hindi talaga ko makafunction pag kulang sa tulog. As in minsan lutang lang ako kaya di ako productive kapag puyat. Ewan ko ba. Lagi kasing 6 hours or 7 hours max tulog ko pag may pasok. Ang O.A. ko lang pero feeling ko kulang talaga ko sa tulog, haha sige ikakamatay ko na ata to. But hindi lang naman yun yung reason, actually madami. Isa na rin yung pressure sa work for example deadline na kelangan mo mameet. Hindi lang isa, minsan tatlo or apat or minsan anim pa na deadline within a week. And dumagdag pa yung fact na you’re dumb as fuck dahil bago ka palang sa work. Another thing siguro is yung environment rin ng work which is nakakaaffect sa attitude ng employee. Syempre pag stressful yung environment sa office maaabsorb mo yun and for sure masstress ka rin.

Aside from these rants, may mga cool happenings rin naman na ganap. Last August I got to see LANY!!!! Shet music for the soul para sa mga taong stressedt! LOL Shet sobrang favorite ko yung Super Far saka yung Pink Skies saka ilysb syempre hahahaha. And tomorrow November 6 sana makanood ako kay LAUV nasa ATC sya 😦 sana maka-out ako ng 5. Kelangan itake ang opportunity hangga’t libre.

I also went to bookfair last month! Actually it was only my second time @ MIBF, the first time was during our review days nung mga panahong wala akong pera pero bumili pa rin ako ng Lang Leav na book. Ghad I love poetry. Naalala ko nun gusto ko ring bumili ng Milk and Honey by Rupi pero dahil isa lng kaya kong bilhin mas pinrioritize ko si Lang Leav. *Awow priority talaga bes?!! Eh dapat nagaaral ako non?* So ayun edi ngayon na mejo maluwag na nabili ko na yung Milk and Honey. Lol kala mo dukhang umasenso sa paghihirap eh anliit lang naman ng sahod ko!! I also buy “All The Bright Places” and “Wonder” pero di ko pa tapos basahin yung ATBP kasi nga wala akong time. Charot. Alam mo yung feeling na minsan wala ka talaga sa mood magbasa? Dahil tuwing weekend nalang pahinga mo parang gusto mo nalang tumunganga at manood ng Vlogs sa youtube all day?? Ang sarap kaya tumunganga. Speaking of Vlogs, uyyyy nanonood ba kayo ng Vlogs sa Youtube? Kasi ako oo. Haha favorite ko sina Cong, AC (squad nila), Luigi (squad din nila) and many more. Poweeerr!!! Payaman!!

I also invested a laptop (awow payaman talaga) – for design purposes – not for gaming, kasi ang hirap ng walang laptop? (Pag magmomodel ka or pag magsusulat or manonood ng movie – hindi porn qaqo) Magpasalamat tayo sa home credit dahil pwede mag-installment. Potek lulubog na naman tayo sa babayaran every month mga ka-DDS. Werpa mga Lodi!!! PETMALU

And last month also, I got to see my CE friends after months!! I’ve never been so uhaw to walwal that time. Haha! It is 2 weeks before their board exam kaya we visited for support. Though parang nangistorbo lang kami because instead na nag-aral sila is inentertain pa nila kami. Haha I hope all of them passed kasi alam ko naman na kayang kaya nila yun! Ang bilis ng panahon parang last year lang kami yung mageexam. Time really flies fast so we should really live for the moment. AWOW?!!
