Averno DND update
DUE this week
I imagine the tunnels as a a complex labyrinth that only DUE (and anyone with a map) can navigate
I'm thinking to navigate it you have to make a series of wisdom checks (3 passes and you get out)
either DUE students can just, navigate the tunnels no problem, or they are least get advantage (same with map holders)
the DUE are archane tricker rouges (the rouge is mainly because no one knows if they exist, so they must stealthy)
I'm thinking as a DUE student, you get to be proficient in Sleight of Hand and Stealth
if you know Shikasta from Critical role, that's the vibe we're going for with one of the professors (Dimitri Ognassian: Cryptology professor)
and another professor Eliziveta Raskova, has lovely Rosie from Realms Apart vibes (Realms apart is a dnd story pdcats and is SO GOOD. Highly recommend)
we have our first antagonist!
it's a senior who's trying to make a new cryptid (which would be fine if the methods they're using were, unconventional)
and yah. I might take a break from new updates with camp starting up. So we'll be back in two weeks.

Averno DND game update!
DLH this week
so in the Averno Bible, it says the DLH student sleep in what used to be the office and I've always headcannoned that some students just sleep in like, old file cabinets. Ao that's a thing
so I have a folder full of bookmarked websites that she related to this and one such website is just, a list of historical names for cats
speaking of cats, the cats are framilars. They hang out in the library when they hadn't been summoned
so as A DLH student, you get a cat framilar
you can change your cat's form, but the cat really doesn't like not being a cat
as a DLH student, you know Latin.
I love all the DLH professors, they're all just so fun
like there's one who's description on the Averno wiki is literally "Severus Snape, but less gross and weird" and I'm HERE for this character
the head of department's magic item is just boots of Haste, but roller skates
So I think I know what I'm doing for quests (kinda?)
so there's like 4 interconnecting plots (one is the prank war) and each department has like, their own special one
there'll be more as I like, build out into the town and whatnot
and character based plots
but that requires players and I'm no where near ready for that yet
one of the quests in DLH is someone's notebook has bene stolen and I don't know why yet, but I think the notebook contains notes for a DND game (cause we like meta humor in this house)
and yah! That's it for this week (have you streamed buttersummer yet? Go do it)

Averno DND Updates
Shorter update this week, but an update non the less. It's DDL time!
So the DDL students are warlocks (mainly because Latin just feels like a launguge an eldrich being speaks)
I imagine that as the character increases in levels and they know more dead launaguges, they're able to like, understand their patron more
like at first it's just, speaking nonsense, but by the end they can interpret them pretty well
all DDL kids get to speak dreamsepak, and one other dead language
I've decided one of the professors looks like Professor Sprout from the first HP movie
also the professors of DDL are either no chill or all chill, no inbetween. I love it
there's a senior who making early learning books about the dead language (you can help them test these books and learn a dead language

Averno DND updates
So I did do an update on DDL last week, but I didn't get much done on it, so I worked a little more on it this week. Here we go
so I've been thinking so very hard on how dead launguges are gonna work in and I think I've figured it out
I'm think that the traditional DND launguges (celestial, infernal, ect) are gonna be the dead launguges
and the laungues in this world (like, Greek and English and whatnot) are gonna be alive launguges
so the DDL kids are warlock and Im thinking their partons are like, one of the dead language
they start off speaking in just, hisses and creepy noises and you get to understand them more as you advance
and I'm picturing tentacles, cause that's just the vibe I get from dead languages
one of the seniors is making an app that let you learn dead launguges
it's like Doulingo and it's called Dead-lingo (You can try to persuade them to change it, but the DC is gomna be high because I really like the name)
There's one student NPC who's description is just "Gothic Southern Belle" and I love her
she walks around with a parasol and speaks like she's from the 1800 and half the student body think she's a ghost (I'm thinking she's a wild one who found a book on that time period and was like "That, that shall be my aesthetic")
so for the prank war, the npc students have like, prank ideas, and then players can suggest their own
anyway, one of the idea for DDL is translating everything into Latin or something
And yah

Averno DND update
I'm gonna do weekly-ish updates for this
using 5th edition, mainly cause that's the system I'm most framilar with
as this is the early stages, I'm working with a T.A.R.D.I.S notebook and the notes app on my phone
(speaking of, if you know of any good online dnd campaign building tools or the like, let me know)
I wrote this like, intro thingy? Like the thing the DM says during the first session? It helped get me in the mindset (might post it somewhere, idk)
I also paraprased the welcome speech from September into my book. Partly to get me in the mindset again, partly cause I really like that speech and wanted to keep it
started with DCD (mainly cause it was the first time in that list I made of ANS departments as DND classes)
so first I wrote out a description out about the different main areas of DCD (Barn, Silo, Kitchen, whatnot)
then I moved on to the class part
when I was doing this, my mind sent was "Bards are Creation, artificers are destruction" but it's not really set in stone thing
at the moment I think the departments are gonna closely follow the given class stuff, but with a few like, monitory features
for example, the bardic collage for DCD is collage of creation (was this decision made based on the fact that creation is in the name? a little)
NPC! Mainly did teachers, but also 2 students
I would like to take this time to thank whoever had contributed to the avernotown wiki
it is my favourite resource whenever I make fan content and I love you
so I'm thinking the department heads are each gonna have like a magic item
so far we've got bread that casts lesser restoration and a very breakable potion of explosions
I'm thinking the players would start at freshman orientation
opening speech and whatnot, get shown arround
Also came up with some quest ideas
and yes, one of them is the prank war
also, I made a map of the tunnels. And when I say map, I mean "I try a bunch of lines on a page and connected them"
you know what, I'm just gonna put a picture here
Tumblr media
there, map
and that's all for now. Next week, DLH!

Averno DND Updates
Welcome back everyone! Hope everyone had a great camp. I know I did
This week was DCM, let's get into it
so originally I was gonna make a designated subclass for each department, but I think I'm scrapping that idea
each department is still like a specific class (DCM is monk) but I'm thinking you can pick any subclass
it makes it easier for me planning wise, and gives the ayers more freedom
So since the DCM tunnels intersect with the DUE tunnels, I think the DCM kids get like, advantage on navigating them
a quote the department is probably going to say at some point
"learning should never be painful, anyone who says otherwise is an idiot and not to be trusted"
I have one NPC who is a Sherlock Homes wanna be, they run a little devective agency
I'm thinking they like, make the mysteries they solve, that would be fun
like a Lockheart figure
Also! There's gonna be a senior who's making a cult and is gonna try to get you to join the cult!
there's gonna be a quest involving bones. I don't know why yet, but bones!
