11 Things
I was tagged by @nyhne.  You asked some good questions.  Thanks for making me think so early in the morning :)
1) Do you like giving/receiving flowers?
I love flowers!  My very first job was working in a flower shop and I loved every minute of it, so of course I love giving and receiving flowers.
2) Is there a particular, niche thing in your field of study (or outside of it) that you’re really interested in? The biology of male seahorses in August? American consumerism trends in the 20th century?
Bioinformatics sounds pretty interesting.  It’s an interdisciplinary field that combines two of my interests:  biology – specific genetics – and computer science.  And cryptography will always hold an interest for me.  I love code breaking :).
3) What are some of your “go-to meals”? This isn’t meant as a shaming or comparison, but when you run out of new ideas what are your favorite go-to’s? It can literally just be ramen (but which kind)
Pasta, pasta, and more pasta. Seriously.  I never get bored cooking it.  There are two types that are my “go-to”. One involves a traditional marinara sauce that I make using crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, shallots, garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, and basil, rosemary, and parsley spices.  The other is sort of a Greek inspired dish. Basically, I cook rotini pasta and serve it with sautéed cherry tomatoes and Kalamata olives and liberally sprinkled feta cheese with extra-virgin olive oil drizzled over everything.  I love the salty flavor of the olives mixed with the feta – and the tomatoes add a bit of sweet.  Cooking these two meals put me in a zen state – something about the chopping and prep of vegetables, and enjoying a glass of wine while cooking and after doesn’t hurt either.
4) Name at least one animal you’re passionate about and why
Kangaroos.  They’re like giant, hopping deer.
5) Do you believe and forgive and forget? Both, neither?
I will forgive, I won’t forget. Because I have an asshole brain that likes to remind me not only of the stupid shit I’ve done, but also of every time I’ve been hurt.
6) What is one thing that makes your home feel complete?
Little piles of clutter in the corners.  It makes my home feel lived in.  I don’t mind stacks of mail on the counter – as long as it’s not strewn across and in the way of my cooking.  I don’t mind a bed that isn’t perfectly made, just as long as the covers are drawn up and fairly straight. I like seeing tables piled with books to be read and shoes arranged by the door.  It’s clutter, but it’s also organized.  If I have everything perfectly put away, there is a 100% chance that I won’t be able to find what I’m looking for.
7) Give me a favorite band/song and why because I need new music lol
Flock of Seagulls “Space Age Love Song” because it’s the epitome of ‘80s new wave goodness.
8) What is one thing you take for granted?
When I find something is easy to do or that I seem inherently good at, my asshole brain (see #5) makes me think that’s only because The Thing I’m doing is so easy.  So when I see other people struggling to do The Thing, I get confused because The Thing was so easy for me.
9) Do you think you are becoming your parents? How do you feel about it?
I have caught myself saying, or about to say, something my parents would have said, but I don’t think I’m becoming them.  I love my parents to death and we definitely share some similarities, but there are traits that I just didn’t inherit – such as my mom’s everything-must-be-perfectly-clean-and-out-of-sight compulsion (see #6) or her ability to get overly emotionally invested in something.  I definitely take after my dad more, but I don’t think I’m becoming him either.
10) What is one “hip trend” that you feel like you were doing before everybody else?
Back when I used to cosplay Prussia, I totally had the platinum/silver pixie haircut before it was “cool.”  I didn’t like wigs and I’d always wanted platinum blonde hair anyway, so I figured why not just do it.  I hated how trendy it became after that, but I really do miss that hair style!
11) What are you supposed to be doing right now instead of this quiz?
I should be doing some more review for my test tomorrow….but I have a phone interview in like ten minutes, so I’m doing this quiz right now to try and remain calm.
