Seven Sentence Sunday

People tagged me last week but I didn’t have any words to share. Now that I have words to share I am getting in early while it’s Sunday in my timezone... and yes I know this is more than seven sentences but there are lots of short sentences and also I didn’t know where to break it

Eddie turns fully to face him, fingers hooking in the pouch of Buck’s hoodie to tug him closer so he can get the back of his hand on his best friend’s forehead.

“You’re warm.”

Buck leans into him, eyes closing.

“I’m okay,” he says, but it’s not a protest. 

Eddie drops his hand to wrap around Buck’s back instead, pulling him in. Buck exhales a shaky breath, then sinks into the hug, hunched down so he can tuck his head against Eddie’s shoulder. Eddie rubs his back, sweeping and slow, and sways them a little.

They’ve been doing things like this more lately: touching. Hugging. Stretching out on the couch, Eddie’s feet in Buck’s lap, or Buck’s head in his. Leaning into each other in the kitchen, or at morning readout, or waiting to leave at the tail end of calls. Four months ago they slow danced at Hen and Karen’s wedding. Four weeks ago Buck draped his arm around Eddie’s shoulders where they sat in a booth out at a bar. Four hours ago they woke up from a nap after a hard shift, wrapped around each other in Eddie’s bed.

Maybe next week will be the week Eddie sits down in therapy and says, “I think Buck and I might be dating? I’m just not sure if he knows it.”

(Four months ago they kissed at Hen and Karen’s wedding, but they’d both been drunk, Buck drunker than him, everything blurred by love and alcohol and fairy lights, and Eddie still can’t figure out if Buck even remembers it.)

(He still hasn’t figured out if he’s going to tell Frank that bit.)

The lock clicks just as his coffee finishes, and Buck busies himself with adding his cream and sugar while the door swings open. He turns back around with his hands wrapped around the warm mug to find Taylor staring at him. There’s a crease between her eyebrows, and her gaze zeroes in on the mug. 

“You made coffee,” she says. “Did you not get my text?”

A beat too late, he realizes what she’s holding; a drink tray with two coffees balanced in one hand, a bag of something—probably pastries—in the other. She’s got her key ring dangling from her pinky finger. 

Buck remembers his phone face down on the bed, notification light still blinking. “Sorry.”

The corner of her mouth dips towards a frown. Buck abandons the mug, still steaming, on the counter next to him. Taylor seems to unfreeze then, flashing him a smile. She nudges the door closed with her hip and sets everything on the table, and comes around the side of the kitchen island over to him. 

“Hi,” she says, sliding her arms around his waist. She tips up onto her toes to press a kiss to the side of his jaw. The shift of her weight when she leans forward brings her close—too close, way too close—and Buck’s breath catches in his throat. He twists away before her hip can hit his thigh the way it does when she leans into him like that, like she always has. The edge of the counter digs into his back when he ducks out of her arms. Taylor sways for a half second before catching herself, and the small frown returns, tugging at her lips. 

“Sorry,” Buck says again. 

“Too much to drink last night?” Taylor offers. She looks out of place, half turned towards him, the few inches of space he’s put between them stretched taut and trembling. 

He can’t hide it forever. He’d scrubbed the evidence from the tile last night but it’s still written all over him, and Taylor is his girlfriend. She’ll see it, someday, unless he never wants to have sex again. Buck should just tell her. 

“Yeah,” he agrees, instead. “It’s, uh—it’s been a weird morning.”

Seven Sentence Tuesday

Hello yes I’m late to the party but thank you @homerforsure @tawaifeddiediaz @princessfbi and @asexualdiaz for tagging me 💛

“You okay?” Eddie asks.

Chimney rubs at his face, almost wishing for the adrenaline to come back as exhaustion sets in. “I wish people would stop asking me that.”

It’s the wrong answer because now Eddie looks truly, properly concerned. He straightens, turning fully to face Chimney, and Chimney has the half hysterical thought that this must be what Buck feels like every time he says something self-deprecating within Eddie’s earshot.

“Where’s your other half?” he asks quickly, hoping to distract him.

“Getting coffees,” Eddie replies easily. Then, undeterred: “Is this about Albert?”

“Maybe it’s about Bobby almost getting crushed by a collapsing ceiling.”

Eddie nods, looking eerily like Frank for a second. “Maybe it can be about multiple things.”

Therapy has been great for Eddie. Really, it has, Chimney is very happy for him. He’d be lying if he said it wasn’t a little unnerving getting some of that therapy secondhand though.
