One thing I've noticed about Sonic clones, they usually try to make them act "cool" but never seem to understand what made Sonic cool in the first place. The character is usually a jerkass/snarky dude with none of Sonic's kindness/love of friends/politeness/laidbackness.

Exactly. They took the surface level of the character, then forgot to give the knockoffs more distinction than that. It's why characters like Crash Bandicoot (whom deviated completely from Sonic by making the decision to not have him talk), and Spyro (whom acted more like a kid eager to help in the first game, then got more of a 'nicer personality' by having him not interact with the characters when they assign him missions) managed to survive, while Areo the Acrobat, Bubsy Bobcat, Gex, and whatever other knock off failed. And yes, I include Sash Lilac and Spark the Electric Jester in that group, the latter of whom whines non-stop at how he keeps getting replaced, while the former tries so hard to get away from being Sonic that she loses so MUCH for it.

There's only so long before people get bored of these two, and Sonic will eventually claim them as his next victims.
