ASM ISSUE 30. I HAVE OPINIONS. SIT DOWN.

I told you I was gonna review any issues that are vaguely superior spidey related and that includes this one. And this one was certainly intriguing! Intresting ideas, the issues it has just stem from the entire run itself sooooo

So here we goo- superior spidey (but like the bootleg)

So here's the things I do like:

Superiors memories, or whatever echo of them are in the arms do affect Peter and while it was brief it was pretty fun. I like how Peter's posture shifts to look like Superiors (in like one panel but shhhh)

Otto and Peter (bootleg superior edtion) bickering was kinda fun to see hshdhsh Thats a concept I kinda love hehsh,.z.

The arms try to sacrifice themselves for Peter in one panel. Me when sad character growth,.,. Nice to see them technically working together tho

It's pretty much confirmed now that superior is in those arms, probably just an echo of his memories, but it could also literally be him because of how aware the arms are and that's a bit freaky and now I feel bad

The implications behind whatever was left of superior in the arms trying to literally strangle doc ock, that's harrowing in context but a intresting concept they could use because man is gonna need some SERIOUS therapy when he gets out

Also also I love that the arms punch Norman every chance they get 100% the most superior spiderman thing they would do

Things I'm a bit iffy on:

Kinda weird that everyone still kinda treats the arms as pets. I mean Jameson does at least. I know we don't know for sure how the arms work with like, Doc's memories but if he is like, aware and sentient in there OOO MAN that makes this so much weirder. Free my boy and don't treat him like that

How the fuck does Peter not suspect somethings up with the arms seemingly containing a separate consciousness. Bro hasn't even really investigated them yet

All my other complaints aren't for this issue but rather complaints for the entire Zeb Wells run itself like Doc Ock back to being an evil goofy villain that needs to get beat up again (like can we not, he doesn't need that anymore) and also on a 10x worse note, reminding me that Zeb Wells killed Ms. Marvel for no reason. I know she'll be back alive soon ut she didn't have do die the way she did 4 issues ago and Aughhhh I cannot get into that rn do not start with me

But yeah those things aren't exactly complaints with this issue so YIPPEE MOVING ON

Yeah the only other thing I'll mention is what I talked about in my last couple of posts is that I'm a bit worried on how they are bringing superior back into the present without using time travel or clones (because giving the title back to og doc ock seems a bit out of the question cuz hes still evil for some reason ((I'll rant again if I go into that more)) but unfortunately that seems like it's the case rn)

It might not be that big an issue, I'll still read the new series when it comes out, but I'm just really hoping that they do him right. STILL EXCITED FOR OCTOBER THO YIPPEE NEW FOOD AND CONTENT LETS JUST HOPE ITS GOOD <3<3

Also apparently the next issue is gonna have a teaser for the next superior book, so I'll be sure to post about that :]

elaboration on why aging up (for sexual purposes) is bad

miles is canonically 15 and dont even pull that “he’s aged up” shit with me cause you know damn well on aged up fanfics they use pictures of CANON MILES. so its pretty obvious u have the teen in your mind. and you know what the ones that are around his age are annoying too but it doesnt put nearly of a bad taste in my mouth as the GROWN ASS ADULTS who make that shit.

and btw dont go and say “oh, it’s hormones and plus miles has hormones” and to that i have to say:

1. if you are a child who likes miles like that, fine, deal with that shit in private tho. you posting s*xual content of a minor is catering to creepy adults online

2. if you’re an adult saying that shit then i can say nothing less that you have the mindset of a groomer. You’re not very far from the mfs who say that “teenage girls are at their ripe age at 16.” you as an adult SHOULD NOT be using teenagers having hormones to your advantage and excuse. That’s disgusting.

“they’re just a fictional character” 😟 can you get a grip? go outside. Miles is a fictional character who is BUILT and DESIGNED to look like a teenager. And astv aint that unrealistic that you can say he’s ambiguous. He’s not. And even if he was he does activities that I do as a teen—I go to high school, I’m nervous about my future—miles is literally a relatable teen, as he was designed to be.

“Then stop looking for the smut posts.” I DONT NEED TO! It infiltrates my ASTV tag and at times the Hobie Brown tags too. You act like your tags aren’t public. If someone wanted to read a Miles fic that was normal fluff they would have to scroll through some smut too!

+ Update: His ages from any other media isn’t a valid excuse. If you were clearly writing for canon adult miles you wouldn’t have astv miles as the icons and astv as the tag.

+ Update: Miles is CANONICALLY 15 in the first movie, and somewhere in the last movie he was YOUNGER. As mentioned above, mentioning other media as an excuse is bs when in the movies your writing for (itsv, atsv) he’s clearly a minor.

+ The thing that pisses me off the most is how ya’ll act like the people who are uncomfortable are weird. Are you not writing s*xual content about a 15 year old on a daily basis? please.

+ Fiction DOES affect reality. Why do you think people have nightmares after horror? Why does a sad film make people cry? Why does a deep movie change perspective?

+ In the scene where Miles argues with his parents, he says something along the lines of “I’m 15!!!” So if you think he’s not underage, you either didn’t pay attention or don’t have google. Plus what 18 year old discusses college that late? (without any other discussions prior?)

+ if you like little boys stop tryna hide that you like little boys it makes you even more manipulative and gross. no but in all seriousness telling minors that behavior is okay has gotta be SOME form of grooming on a more subtle scale. sorry if that’s too bold for ya’ll but as someone who’s been tricked into thinking content like this was okay when I was younger, I can confirm that this isn’t okay.

+ If to prove character that’s canonically a minor isn’t one you have to pull up seven different source materials that barely correlate to the one you write for, that character is still a fucking minor! It’s giving “she’s actually 3000!!!” when she looks 8.

hi, i have something to say.

stop taking advantage of fandom writers.

earlier this morning, i was tagged in a ‘writing challenge’.

i’m not going to link it because it’s apparent that this person has gotten ‘hate’ for posting & tagging, anyways. that’s all the comments are on this post -- people saying this person is an angel, and undeserving of the kick-back. 

i disagree. this person needs to learn why what they’re doing is wrong.

i’m not unsettled bc i was tagged in it -- i love getting tagged in writing challenges and wish i had more time to do more!

it’s the rules of this challenge + precedent it attempts to set, as well as the amount of recognizable fandom writers, mutuals and followers i saw on this list.

and i am not about to let y’all be taken advantage of.

this challenge starts off by stating only to enter if you follow the rules and then proceeds to launch into a set of rules that caters to the creator of the challenge:

“must be she/her/hers, late 20′s-30′s, plus-size preferred, only angst if it ends in fluff, no wlw, must be romantic relationship with male main only...” 

and it only get’s worse.

“please be general to appearance (unless you want to use mine)” “please use Y/N (or my name if you really want to)” “smut/nsfw is fine (but no spanking/choking/anything triggering please)”

the challenge creator then lists a good chunk of characters you can write for, then outlines another section:

“pick at least 1 - reader’s personal situation”

small boobs, depression, anxiety, other mental disorder, physical disability, disease, non-american (most fanfics are american-based) (i’m australian), virgin, never-been-kissed/never dated, reader abused as a child, lonely/friendless, scared of rejection, guarded reader, shy, bullied by family / ”friends” / coworkers, ticklish.

if you’re not picking up what i’m putting down by now, here’s the deal.

here in whirlybirb’s world, i’ve got a few strict rules i follow when it comes to written requests in my ask box. i won’t write self-harm / depression / abuse / bullying. 

why?

because you never know what the writer’s triggers are, and furthermore, what the mass of my follower’s triggers are. i try my best to tag anything that could possibly be triggering and still -- i won’t put an abuse prompt next to small boobs. 

if we want to strive for a more diverse range of reader-inserts, i’ve got news: this ain’t it. 

but, it’s pretty clear why the challenge creator is listing these things -- i mean, it’s a “give ___ some love” challenge anyways. there is a clear disregard for the writers being called on and their triggers. it’s disgusting. 

so, all the gross stuff ignored, what’s the deal? i mean, it’s a challenge, birbs.

alright, say i’m a painter. you come to my studio and i ask, “what should i paint today?” and you say, “it’s nice out! you should paint outside” and i think... wow! you’re right. i will. 

you don’t need to pay me. i asked, you gave a vague suggestion that allows me to exercise my creative free will. 

now, you waltz into my studio and ask me to paint “a female, late 20′s, plus size, with green eyes and purple hair and she’s holding Bucky Barnes’ hand”. that’s called a commission, and honey you gotta pay up. 

so, what’s the difference with writing? and it’s a challenge, you win something, duh, birbs. 

right! yeah, but in this case, after they’ve called on writers, ignoring the offensiveness of the prompts and rules, and asked for a very specific self-insert, surely they offer a prize for compete in this challenge, right?

i mean, that’s the whole point of these challenges. there’s usually something you gain -- whether it be a care package or a spot on a follow-forever or a trade fic. surely, after jumping through the loops in this very specific, offensive, triggering challenge, you get something?

nope. 

in conclusion, fucking pay content creators for your extremely limited + detailed request and stop trying to weasel one out of this community.

y’all work too hard to be swindled into a ‘challenge’ that give you nothing to gain, that’s disrespectful, that’s unfair. don’t let people take advantage of your skills.
